O albele panchhi teraa door thikaana hai

Posted on: September 9, 2009

Yesterday I posted a wonderful song from Devdas (1955) which I had heard many a times, though without realising that it was a song from this movie. Here is another song from this movie that I never heard in my life till today !

This song is a kids’ song in the sense that two young kids ( perhaps the young Devdas and Paro) sing this song. As was the practice those days, two female singers have given playback for this song. Asha Bhonsle and Usha Mangeshkar have sung this song. Sahir Ludhianvi has come up with another superb song. S D Burman’s music is wondeful.

It is a nice song, which I heard for the first time today and I liked it very much.

Song-O albele panchchi teraa door thikaana hai (Devdas) (1955) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Usha Mangeshkar, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-S D Burman

Lyrics

o albele panchi tera door thikaana hai
chhodi jo daali ik baar wahaan kab laut ke aana hai
panchhi
o albele panchhi tera door thikaana hai
chhodi jo daali ik baar wahaan kab laut ke aana hai

neel gagan hai jhoola tera
arre arre jhoola nahin aangan
o
neel gagan hai aangan tera
dhanak hai tera jhoola
o ho dhanak hai tera jhoola
ujle pankhon ki doli mein phire tu phoola phoola
doli mein phire tu phoola phoola
chanchal chaal nazar matwaali roop suhaana hai
panchhi
o albele panchhi tera door thikaana hai
chhodi jo daali ik baar wahaan kab laut ke aana hai

ik daali ke neeche aakar baat hamaari sunle
panchhi aa
paas hi apna ghar hai chalkar daana dunka chug le
panchhi aa
aaj tujhe mehmaan banaakar gaana hansna hai
nahin nahin hansna gaana hai
panchhi
o albele panchhi tera door thikaana hai
chhodi jo daal ik baar wahaan kab laut ke aana hai

jaana hai to aa ham tujhko phool aur pankh sajaade
panchhi aa
maathe tilak lagaa de pairon me jhaanjhar pahna de
panchhi aa
phir tu khushi se jaana tujhko jahaan bhi jaana hai
panchhi
o albele panchhi tera door thikaana hai
chhodi jo daal ik baar wahaan kab laut ke aana hai
panchhi
o albele panchhi tera door thikaana hai
o albele panchhi tera door thikaana hai
o albele panchhi tera door thikaana hai

This is my alltime favorite bollywood song.
I really like it’s simplicity.
It is also fun to see that boy is aware of what is going on around him and the girl just simply enjoys singing the song and watching the bird.

Squarecutatul, I can really understand if you don’t want to supply the devenagari script to every song in your blog.

But can you make an exception for this one please

I would be most grateful, Dennis

Dennis, are you familiar with the Devnagari script ? If so, then I suppose you should be familiar with the meanings of the songs as well ? But I noticed that you wanted the meaning of another song.

The reason why I have not provided Devnagari script is because majority of my readers are those who may not be familiar with the script. Many of them are not familar with the language too. Ideally I would like to provide the translation of the songs fiirst. Providing devnagri script would come later. Providing translation is as much work as posting a song, whereas providing devnagri script lyrics is twice as much work. At present I am concentrating on posting as many songs as possible. I have noted these suggestions about translation as well as scripts. In fact I would like to do even further and provide some more user friendly features. I think I will be able to reveal my plans shortly.

Here are two lines of my favorite Chinese song Lijiang qu

A, guihua you zai kai.

啊,桂花又再开。
啊,桂花又在开。

yi zhen qingfeng qingqing chui xiao zhai.

一阵清风轻轻吹小寨。
一阵轻风轻轻吹小寨。

Here you see a transliteration and and two character script for each of the transliteration.

Althought the second set make perfectly sense in the context of the song, most chinese would prefer the first set.

That is why I ask you native speaker to write down O Albele Pancchi in devenagari script.

In Devnagri script, what you see is what you read. So there is no ambiguity about what is written in Devnagri script. In that way, making comparisons with Chinese script is not valid.
