Ik saathi mera badaa puraanaa

on:Just now I stumbled upon a 50 year old song, and listened to it for the first time.
This song is from “Maa Baap” (1960). It is sung by Rafi (and chorus) and picturised on Rajendra Kumar (and others). The lyrics by Rajinder Krishan are interesting. It talks of one’s hand as being one’s trusted companion. Chitragupta is the music director.
I was neither aware of this song no this movie. But now I have realised that this movie had some interesting songs. So it follows that I need to post more songs from this movie in the days to come.

Song-Ek saathi mera bada puraana (Maa Baap) (1960) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan,MD-Chitragupta
Lyrics
aaa
hmm
aaa
ek saathi mera bada puraana
jaane khoob wo saath nibhaana
saath rahe din raat
dekho mera daaya haath
daaya haath daaya haath
ek saath mera bada puraana
jaane khoob wo saath nibhaana
saath rahe din raat
dekho mera daaya haath
daaya haath
daaya haath
baag bageeche yehi banaaye
khode dharti phool ugaaye
aaa
baag bageeche yehi banaaye
khode dharti phool ugaaye
chhupaa huaa maati mein sona
dhoondh ke laaye dhoondh ke laaye
chhupaa huaa maati mein sona
dhoondh ke laaye dhoondh ke laaye
haath ye apni madad kare to
maalik bhi de saath
ek saathi mera bada puraana
jaane khoob wo saath nibhaana
saath rahe din raat
dekho mera daaya haath
daaya haath daaya haath
seedha saada saathi mera
pahne naa ye kabhi angoothi
aaa aaa
seedha saada saathi mera
pahne naa ye kabhi angoothi
mehnat hi ko jewar samjhe
haar singaar ko daulat jhoothi
mehnat hi ko jewar samjhe
haar singaar ko daulat jhoothi
apne aage kuchh na samjhe
garmi ho ya barsaat
ek saathi mera bada puraana
jaane khoob wo saath nibhaana
saath rahe din raat
dekho mera daaya haath
daaya haath daaya haath
ek saathi mera bada puraana
jaane khoob wo saath nibhaana
saath rahe din raat
dekho mera daaya haath
daaya haath daaya haath

Can we request other nice songs from this 1960 movie?
Le lo Le lo duaen maa baap ki and other Rafi and Lata songs.
This was a good movie of the golden era of Bollywood music.

Interesting! I haven’t heard this one before, though another song from this same movie has remained imprinted in my memory from my childhood days:
Lelo lelo duayen maa baap ki … by Rafi
Of course, I always get challenged when I use this in Antakshari!
