on:“Light House” (1958) was a movie featuring Ashok Kumar and Nutan. This movie is not remembere much today. Its music too is not very well known now a days. But this movie had a few nice songs in it.
Here is one such songs from this movie. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it was presumably picturised on Nutan. Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist and N Datta is the music director.
Song-Tang aa chuke hain (Light House) (1958) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD- N Datta
Lyrics
tang aa chuke hain kashmakash-e-zindagi se ham
thukraa na den jahaan ko kahin bedili se ham
tang aa chuke
lo aaj hamne tod diyaa, rishtaa-e-ummeed
lo aaj hamne tod diyaa, rishtaa-e-ummeed
lo ab kabhi gilaa na karenge kisi se ham
thukraa na den jahaan ko kahin bedili se ham
tang aa chuke
gar zindagi mein mil gaye phir ittafaaq se
gar zindagi mein mil gaye phir ittafaaq se
poochhenge apnaa haal teri bebasi se ham
thukraa na den jahaan ko kahin bedili se ham
tang aa chuke
o aasmaan waale kabhi to nigaah kar
o aasmaan waale kabhi to nigaah kar
ab tak ye zulm sahte rahe khaamoshi se ham
thukraa na den jahaan ko kahin bedili se ham
tang aa chuke
tang aa chuke hain kashmakash-e-zindagi se ham
tang aa chuke

ccepted that the first verse is the same of both songs but following verses are totally different. I too had noticed this despite having seen Pyassa several times.
Going back to Tower House there were several good songs, one of which is Tang aa chuke hai sung by Asha Bhosle. There is another excellent song Aye mere dile nadaan tu gham se na ghabharana sung by Lata Mangeshkar from the same film Tower House if I am not mistaken.
Shanker jaikishen always had assistant music directors Duttaram and Sabestian. Is Duttaram the same person as N Dutta. I have always found in music of N Dutta ,Shanker Jaikishan style.
Please advise

Truly lovely song. Is there a way of identifying the singer as Asha and not Lata. I sometimes cannot tell if it is Asha/Lata/Suman Kalyanpur.

The ghazal was to be used in ‘Pyaasa’ (1957) as a full-pledged song.
On the rehearsal day, while Mohammed Rafi came, for some reason, S D Burman, could not come. So Rafi rehearsed the song without the accompanying musicians. This was recorded on a tape which was later heard by Guru Dutt. He liked the tape recorded version so much that he decided to use the ghazal as it is without the music. So it was picturised as a recitation by Guru Dutt on the screen.
