I may have heard this song in passing in the past, but I never paid much attention to it, and indeed I had no clue about this song.
While going through the older songs posted in this blog, I saw that one reader called Sphoorti had given a farmaish for this song. When I looked up this song, I found that details about this song were very difficult to come by and those details were even wrong. I received most of the details of this song from Sphoorti’s farmaish itself. That is how I came to know about the lyricist and music director oif this movie.
This song is a duet from “Kaanoon Aur Muzrim” (1981). 1981 was when Bollywood movie music had touched its rockbottom (Disco songs), and so it is such a pleasant surprise to find an old fashioned song created with old fashioned attention to details by respecting the sensibilities and intelligence of music lovers.
This song is sung by Suresh Wadkar and Usha Mangeshkar. Ahmad Wasi is the lyricist and C Arjun is the music director. I have no idea who were the lead actors on whom this song was picturised, and that, I think, could wel be a blessing in disguise. I think that this beautiful song could well have been spoiled in its picturisation. Listening to the audio of this song is in itself quite a rewarding experience. It is a gem of a song, created by some lesser known and less fashionable artists.

Yeah, I just checked on imdb. And THAT was a blockbuster movie (and its songs too) !!! Imdb’s database is very limited with regard to Arjun’s movies. I just counted on earthmusic and came to 19 movies. Almost all of them unheard of – but you know how it is. Many of these songs may actually be good. I am quite impressed after listening to “shaam rangeen hui hai”.

“paas baitho tabeeyat bahal jaayegi” from “Punar Milan (1964) is also C Arjun’s creation.

What a lovely song to listen to !!!
I just closed my eyes now and listened to this – to let it seep in. Just a gem of a song.
C. Arjun as MD ? Just goes to show there are so many out there whose work is not known or appreciated. Need to know more about this guy.
I had also never heard of this movie, Atul. Had only heard the song (it was a fairly well-known song, I remember).
Dil khush ho gaya aaj ye gaana sun ke ! (Heart feels good today after hearing this song !). 🙂
