Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Pyaar kabhi kam na karnaa sanam

Posted on: May 28, 2010

This is one of those songs that I loved listening to in my formative years without having much clue about it and then I forgot all about the song once this song stopped playing on radio and loudspeakers.

Recently I was reacquainted with this song again, thanks to Raja, who informed me that this song was from “Ek Mutthi Aasmaan” (1973). This was news to me ! I knew that this movie had a wonderful and memorable title song in it and I had posted that song. The fact that the same movie had another gem like this made me feel for Madan Mohan. Yes, Madan Mohan was the music director of this movie. He created such superb songs in this movie, only to see the movie and the songs forgotten with time. The songs of this movie are far far better than the movie that these songs found themselves in.

This song, which is one of those songs imprinted in the brains of impressionable kids like me of those days, is sung by Kishore Kumar and Vani Jairam. Kishore Kumar needs no introduction, but Vani Jairam was a playback singer from south who was introduced to Bollywood playback scene with “Guddi” (1970) and her song “bole re papeehara” had become her visiting card. She unfortunately got very few opportunities in Bollywood music scene and she went back to South where she had a long career as a playback singer.

This song is picturised on Vijay Arora and Radha Saluja. My readers will wonder how I identified an unheard of person like Radha Saluja so easily. It is easy if you are …err… blessed with Sherlock Holmes’ like power of deduction. The female actors in this movie are Yogita Bali, Radha Saluja, Aruna Irani ,Kamini Kaushal and Lalita Pawar. This lady cannot be Yogita Bali, Aruna Irani, Kamini Kaushal and Lalita Pawar. So she has no option but to be Radha Saluja. Elementary, my dear readers !

This song is written by Indeewar, and as mentioned earlier, it is composed by Madan Mohan.

Song-Pyaar kabhi kam na karna sanam (Ek Mutthi Aasmaan) (1973) Singers- Kishore Kumar, Vani Jairam, Lyrics-Indeewar, MD-Madan Mohan

Lyrics

Pyaar kabhi kam na karna sanam
har kami gawaara kar lenge
pyaar kabhi kam na karna sanam
har kami gawaara kar lenge
seene se tum jo lagaa ke rakho
saanson se guzaaraa kar lenge
seene se tum jo lagaa ke rakho
saanson se guzaaraa kar lenge
pyaar kabhi kam na karna sanam

dil hain to armaan machlenge
dil hain to armaan
ho ho
dil hain to armaan machlenge
saagar mein tofaan machlenge
saagar mein tofaan machlenge
saath agar jo hamaare raho
toofaan ko kinaare kar lenge
saath agar jo hamaare raho
toofaan ko kinaare kar lenge
pyaar kabhi kam na karna sanam

jab se paar dil mein jaagaa
hamne to bas tumko maangaa
jab se paar dil mein jaagaa
hamne to bas tumko maangaa
hamne to bas tumko maangaa
toone agar jo kinaara kiyaa
duniya se kinaara kar lenge
toone agar jo kinaara kiyaa
duniya se kinaara kar lenge
pyaar kabhi kam na karna sanam
har kami gawaara kar lenge
seene se tum jo lagaa ke rakho
saanson se guzaaraa kar lenge
pyaar kabhi kam na karna sanam

Okay, another song which I remember, but had forgotten entirely until just now! I am so glad you are bringing these songs back to people like me, who used to enjoy these songs and are constantly moaning the lack of good songs these days. It is a pleasure to open your site and find these old friends who bring a smile to my face when I recognize them! Thanks, Atul!

Thanks for this beautiful song and information.
Vani Jayaraam was a very good singer.
Geet sun kar vividhbharati ka zamaana yaad aa gya.
isee movie ka dusra gana–‘so baras kee zindagi se achchhe hain ‘bhi bahut famous hua tha.

Alpana is right, they used to play this song on Vividh Bharati day in day out! But I still didn’t know that it was from Ek Mutthi Aasmaan and the MD is Madan Mohan. Wonder why he took Vani and not Lata for the song!

I was mainly a radio Ceylon listener those days. My local Vividh Bharati station was not a full fledged Vividh Bharati station those days and broadcasted only in the evenings, if I remember it correctly. My impression of Vividh Bharati was as a broadcaster of old songs.

Hi Atul
The vdo link is not functioning
