Iss duniyaa mein pyaare do kaam karnaa

Posted on: June 22, 2010

I was on the lookout for this song for quite some time, ever since Raja gave me the farmaish of this song from “Shrimaanji”. In all this time, I managed to find (and post) several songs from “Shrimatiji”, but I drew a blank as far as locating songs of “Shrimaanji” was concerned.

Finally I have managed to locate this elusive song from this elusive movie. It turns out that the movie “Shrimaanji” is from a “recent” vintage, viz from 1968 and not from 1950s, unlike ‘Shrimatiji”(1952).
“Shrimaanji” (1968) had Kishore Kumar in lead role and he gets to sing some nice songs. This song takes a light hearted look at “fashion”. This song has Kishore Kumar donning the wig of a jurist and several “fashionable” ladies indulging in “fashion”. The b & w picturisation shows that applying powder on faces was also considered fashion those days. And wearing western clothes, and dancing western dances too were considered fashion. That way, this song is quite an interesting song for those who wants to have a look at the fashion trends of 1960s. 🙂

The song is written by Aziz Kashmiri and music is composed by O P Nayyar. This is one O P Nayyar tune that sounds different and one cannot make this song out as an O P Nayyar compostion unless this fact is pointed out.

It is a lovely song and this song was the oldest pending farmaish (pending since January 2009) with me. I am happy that I have finally been able to strike this song off my list of pending farmaishes.

Thanks, Atul, for taking the trouble for this one.
I remember this song from my early days but had no clue which movie and all that.
Then a couple of years back I was watching an Indian channel, they showed this movie – and there this was. It was one of those “this song is in THIS movie?” moments. 🙂

Timepass song. I quite like it. 🙂

Very nice–I like the way he changes styles, for instance to Punjabi in the middle. Nice to listen to and with Kishore, entertaining as ever, to see. Thanks Raja and Atul. I’d never know of these songs unless someone dug out these obscure ones.

I am still wondering where I was when this song was being aired! Probably applying powder to my face and trying to twist to songs! Entertaining song! Thanks, Raja, for making the farmaish, and thanks to Atul for finding it!
