I have mentioned it on several occasions that music director Ravi has composed the most number of iconic songs among all the music directors. You name the ocassion or the theme, and chances are , one can name a few iconic songs for the ocassion composed by Ravi.
When it comes to an iconic Raakhi festival song composed by Ravi, here is this song from “Kaajal” (1965). Some time in the past, it was mentioned separately by me as well as Raja that this movie “Kaajal” is full of one iconic song after another and as you come across one song after another, you exclaim- “so this song is from this movie !”. Yes, “Kaajal” was that kind of a musical blockbuster, though the movie itself was a torture to watch, considering that it had tragedy king Raj Kumar and Tragedy queen Meena Kumari at that tragic “best” in this movie.
Coming to the song itself, this song is one of the most memorable Raakhi songs created in Hindi movies, second only to “Bhaiyyaa mere raakhi ke bandhan ko nibhaanaa” from “Chhoti Behan” (1959).
Here is this fantastic Raakhi song from “Kaajal” (1965) which is sung by Asha Bhonsle and picturised on Meena Kumari, who for a change is seen happy on the occasion of Raakhi. Can anyone tell me who is the actor who play her brother in this song ?

The song is written by Sahir Ludhianvi, who was a standard lyricist who regularly teamed up with Ravi in the movies of 1960s and 1970s.

I’m surprised she didn’t have a gold statue of her brother to worship. Or maybe anmol ratan is good enough. I think societies fall apart when men are not worshipped.

I liked this song. I think movie was based on Gulshan Nanda novel. Ram Maheshwari, the director (& producer of this movie and also “Neel Kamal”) had excellent talent of making a trash out of a good story.
Luckily he had a good cast and music/singer/lyrics were excellent. Sahir/Ravi combo (and Rafi in following two) gave their best.

If I remember correctly, she sings this song to her real-life boyfriend Dharmendra as well. What an irony, isn’t it?
Coincidentally Dharmendra and Sailesh Kumar also starred in Begaana (1963) as well. The song “Phir woh bhooli si yaad aayi hai” was lip synced by Sailesh and not by Dharmendra as is popularly believed. From the looks of it, Dharmendra played a supporting role in the movie and not that of the main lead.

Yes , I have posted this “Begaanaa” (1963) song in this blog and I have mentioned the fact that this song is picturised on Shailesh Kumar and Dharmendra plays second fiddle to him in this movie.
