on:While looking up information about Naushad, I found out that he made his debut as a music director in 1940 in a movie called “Prem Nagar”. In this movie he composed as many as 13 songs. Those are the days when actors themselves used to sing their own songs.
Here is the very first song from the movie that appears immediately after the movie begins. This song shows a few village ladies singing and dancing and then a villageman joins them in the singing.
The song is written by D N Madhok. The song is sung by Bimla Kumari and Prof. Ramanand Sharma.
Naushad, the debutant music director of this movie, soon came into his own and he, alongwith a few other pioneers, soon defined the course that Hindi movie music would take in its journey in the coming years.
I find this song quite nice to listen to and the sound quality is quite good despite the technological limitations of sound recording those days.
So here is this historical song from “Prem Nagar” (1940), which is the very first song composed by Naushad in his career as a music director.
Song-Mat bolo bahaar ki batiyaan re (Prem Nagar) (1940) Singers-Bimla Kumari, Prof Ramanand Sharma, Lyrics-D N Madhok,MD-Naushad
