Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Jaani tum to dole dagaa dai ke

Posted on: September 25, 2010

I am barely aware of this movie called “Dr Vidya” (1962) and I have become aware of the songs of this movie thanks to the farmaishes of songs for this movie.

Here is another song from this movie. this is a song that not many people may be aware of. At least I was not aware of it, but my farmaish giving readers know even about less known songs.

And what a delightfully picturised song it is ! Vyjyanti Mala is seen dancing joyously in this song in front of a bemused looking Manoj Kumar. The background scenery of mountains is just as breathtaking as the song and the dance.

This song is sung with gusto by Lata. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. S D Burman, who after an estrangement with Lata for a few years had begun to work with Lata again, comes up with an inspired composition.

Here is this delightful song from “Dr Vidya” (1962). I am thankful to Lalitha for making me aware of this song through her farmaish.

PS-Looking at the songs of this movie, I notice that Vyjyanti Mala who plays a medical doctor in this movie, spends all her time singing and dancing. Does she get to do some medical practice too in this movie ?

song-Jaani tum to dole dagaa daike (Dr Vidya) (1962) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-S D Burman

Lyrics

mohe na jaano bholi bhaali
aisi bholi nahin main nainon waali
mohe na jaano bholi bhaali
aisi bholi nahin main nainon waali
bachke jaiho
jaa na pahiyo
bikhraa doongi main lat kaali kaali

ab ke bhi na miloge tum jo pyaare
badraa chhaaye
kaare kaare
ab ke bhi na miloge tum jo pyaare
taana degi bijli hanske
barkhaa royegi tumhre duwaare
Jaani
tum to dole
dagaa dai ke
ho ho
jaiho
zulmi nainaa
kahaan lai ke
ho ho
jaani

What a delightful song !! And the background scenery and the clouds in the sky – I love to visit such locations.
If we listen carefully, I feel this songs has some shades of the tune of ‘O panchhi pyaare’ from ‘Bandini’.
Thanks Atul ji.

Dear All,

Made the connection today – here is the Bangla original of this song. This one is recorded in Geeta Dutt’s voice under the baton of Sachin Da. This song was recorded for the film ‘Gauri’ – a film that Guru Dutt started, to be the launch vehicle for Geeta Dutt as an actor-singer. The film was shelved after two reels. Sachin Da later used this tune for this song of Dr Vidya.

Sudhir ji,

This song was also sung by S D Burman. The record of this non-film Bangla song was released in 1957 (HMV Record No.11932). I m not aware as to which was recorded first. I understand that Geeta Dutt version was not issued on the gramophone record.
