Hamko hanste dekh zamaanaa jaltaa hai

Posted on: November 30, 2010

“Ham Sab Chor Hain” (1956) was a light hearted movie which was written and directed by I S Johar. This movie had some interesting comedy songs in it that are nice to listen to.

I have so far discussed four songs from this movie in this blog.

Here is another song from this movie. It is sung by Rafi and G M Durrani. It is picturised on I S Johar and another actor whom I do not know. I request my knowledgeable readers to help identify him.

PS-The other actor is Majnu. I thank Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh for this information.

These two actors are shown donning different disguises throughout the song in a bid to escape policemen who are in their hot pursuit.

The song is written by Majrooh Sultanpuri. O P Nayyar is the music director.

Lyrics

Hamko hanste dekh zamaanaa jalta hai
chor bano ya mor yahaan sab chaltaa hai
hamko hanste dekh zamaanaa jalta hai
chor bano ya mor yahaan sab chaltaa hai
jalta hai jale koi
yahaan hai phikar kise
aaj ka thikaana karo
kal ki khabar kise
hamko hanste dekh zamaanaa jalta hai
chor bano ya mor yahaan sab chaltaa hai

paap koi man mein churaake raam raam kahe
tole koi mehanga to koi kam daam kahe
chor saari duniyaa
hamin ko mat gher zara
ham sab chor hain
samajh ka hai pher zaraa
arre chor saari duniyaa
hamin ko mat gher zara
arre ham sab chor hain
samajh ka hai pher zaraa
jalta hai jale koi
yahaan hai phikar kise
aaj ka thikaanaa karo
kal ki khabar kise
hamko hanste dekh zamaanaa jalta hai
chor bano ya mor yahaan sab chaltaa hai

rang jo churaataa phire
us ko rangeela kahen
aankh jo churaaye
usse sab sharmeela kahen
dil jo churaaye
use dilbar kahen sab
haay hamko magar kahen chor
waah mere rab
dil jo churaaye
use dilbar kahen sab
haay hamko magar kahen chor
waah mere rab
jalta hai jale koi
yahaan hai phikar kise
aaj ka thikaana karo
kal ki khabar kise
Hamko hanste dekh zamaanaa jalta hai
chor bano ya mor yahaan sab chaltaa hai

Atul ji,

The second actor in this song is Badri Prasad.
Badri Prasad has been associated with Hindi cinema since 1933, as an actor, as well as an accomplished dance director. The online filmography at http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0046230/filmoyear
lists more than 100 movies till as late as 1988, a tenure lasting almost six decades.

I think his most significant and well known role is in the 1947 movie ‘Dard’, as one of the lead artists with Shyam opposite Munawwar Sultana and Suraiya.

(The movie ‘Dard’ has some of the most memorable songs composed by Naushad and penned by Shakeel Badayuni)

Atul ji, / Sudhir ji,

I think the other actor in this song is MAJNU and not Badriprasad.
In this film,Badriprashad had done the role of Bimla/Kamla’s real father. In one scene he is travelling in a local train as his car is broken down and he meets Bimla (Nalini Jayawant),carrying a doll as a Baby and there are dialogues between him and her. Both are unaware of their relationships.
Badriprashad is the same actor who did the role of Shashikala/Smriti ‘s wicked uncle in Bhagam Bhag.(he can not work without specks.)
Kindly check up once again.
Majnu has acted with I.S.Johar in many films. They have done the same roles in EK THI LADKI,based on which HAM SAB CHOR HAI was made.

Arun ji,

Yes, I agree, and I stand corrected. I just pulled up the images of Majnu and Badriprasad, and the actor in this song is indeed Majnu. Badriprasad has a slightly more round face.
I was probably taken by the appearance of Badriprasad as I remember him from the movie Dard, that was about 7 years prior to this movie.

Thanks for the correction,

Did anyone notice Feroz Khan in there. He comes twice on-screen. Is it a credited appearance is what i was wondering

Uncredited.

Feroz Khan is born in 1939, so in 1956 he would be 17 year old. If It really is him in the song driving a car, than the birth year looks wrong in the records.

How did you catch this Peevesie’s Mom ….. Or were you looking for him there …. Must be the Bangalore connection at work here. 🙂

Haha! Bangalore connection!!! No way

Feroz Khan had also appeared uncreditted in ‘Bade Sarkar’ (1957), towards almost at the end of the film.
