Rumjhum matwaare baadal chhaa gaye

Posted on: April 10, 2011

Discovering musical gems by chance is something that I am quite used to. It happens quite regularly with me. Look what I discovered just now ! A pure gem of the highest purity !

This song is from a movie called “Suhaagraat” (1948). Till now I was only aware of a movie by this name that was released in 1968. “Suhaagraat” (1948), it turns out had Bharat Bhushan, Geeta Bali,Begam Para etc in it.

What a fabulous song it is. This song can magically transport its listeners to the most joyous of all journeys, viz the journey down memory lane. What sweet voices, singing what a nice song. Those were the simple and uncomplicated days of the yore !

This superb song is sung by Raj Kumari and Geeta Roy (later Dutt). Kidar Sharma is the lyricist. Snehal Bhatkar composed the music.

The picturisation of this song shows a very small portion of the song. One needs to listen to the audio containing the full song.

This song made my day. I am sure it will have the same effect on the readers as well.

Atul ji,

Decidedly a song to make it a day. What a wonderful composition and what lovely rendition by both singers.

Simply beautiful.

Atul ji,

I am sorry to say that the Heroine of this film was not Geeta Roy(Dutt),but it was GEETA BALI( real name Harikirtan Kaur,a punjabi sikh).
Suhag Raat was her Debut film.

Thanks for pointing it out. I actually meant to type Geeta Bali, but I often make such mistakes when the first names of the singer and the actor are same, viz Geeta Dutt/Geeta Bali and Asha Parekh/Asha Bhonsle. 🙂

Atul ji,

This is the debut movie for Snehal Bhatkar. Snehal Bhatkar composed for well over 30 movies, using the name Snehal Bhatkar and VG Bhatkar (his real name), over a period from 1948 (this movie) to Pehla Kadam in 1981.
He passed away in 2007.

Atul ji,

I am thriled to hear this song of immense beauty. I saw this film about ten times and was quite overwhelmed by it. The songs of this film were set in a hilly region and the music completely captures the folksy, hilly atmosphere. I am nearly 82 years old and still remember each and every song of the film. You have really made me feel young again.

Thanks a million. I can never forget the unforgettable memories of Snehal Bhatkar’s soul touching music of this film.

Regards,

Mahendra.

I have given my honest opinion and my sincerest feelings about this song and generally the music of this film. Seeking moderation of my comments is unfair to me, to the lyricist late Shri Kedar Sharma and late Shri Snehl Bhatkar.

Please do not insist on moderation. Thanks.

Mahendra.
