Main hoon deewaanaa badaa mastaanaa

Posted on: June 23, 2011

“Haqdaar” (1964) is an obscure B grade movie which had actors like Bhagwan, Uma Devi, Ranjan, Nasreen, Ratnamala, Babu Raje etc in it. I have no idea what this movie was all about. it is obvious that the movie did not do well at the box office.

Like all B grade movies, this movie too had nice music in it, which unfortunately failed to register in the radars of mainstream music loving public.

Here is the “introduction” song from this movie which is sung by Mukesh. The song describes the motto of the hero. In brief, his motto is to be a deewaanaa, mastaanaa, and unmindful of what the world says, he goes about his job with a song in his lips.

Only the audio of this song is available, so we have no idea who lip syns the song on the screen. Going by the cast, it could well be Bhagwan. I request our knoewledgeable readers to tell us more about this movie.

The song is written by Prem Warbartani. He is another person about whom I have little idea. Music is composed by Bulo C Rani.

Song-Main hoon deewaanaa badaa mastaanaa (Haqdaar)(1964) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics- Prem Warbartani, MD-Bulo C Rani

Lyrics

main hoon deewaanaa
badaa mastaanaa
duniyaa mujhe kuchh bhi kahe
gaataa chalaa dil kaa taraanaa
main hoon deewaanaa

roop nagar kaa raahi hoon main
pyaar meraa sarmaayaa hai
roop nagar kaa raahi hoon main
pyaar meraa sarmaayaa hai
mere lambe safar kaa saathi
ek meraa hi saayaa hai
mere lambe safar kaa saathi
ek meraa hi saayaa hai
main hoon deewaanaa
badaa mastaanaa
duniyaa mujhe kuchh bhi kahe
gaataa chalaa dil kaa taraanaa
main hoon deewaanaa

udte udte pyaare panchhi
is duniyaa se door chale
udte udte pyaare panchhi
is duniyaa se door chale
main bhi inke sang chalaa hoon
chaand nagar mein shaam dhale
main bhi inke sang chalaa hoon
chaand nagar mein shaam dhale
main hoon deewaanaa
badaa mastaanaa
duniyaa mujhe kuchh bhi kahe
gaataa chalaa dil kaa taraanaa
main hoon deewaanaa

Atul ji,
The above song is picturised on RANJAN,the hero of the film.
HAQDAAR(1964) was produced by R.S.Mistry under the banner of Sri Ganesh Chitra and was directed by P.S.Wagle.Lyrics were provided by 3 little known people,Prem Varbartani,S.T.Hussaini(also wrote the story) and Raj Vyas.
Raja Vikram of Anand Nagar, had a stillborn son after 20 years.Unknown to the king, loyal Vazir Mangal singh replaces this child with one of the twins born to Asha,a poor woman.
Prince Ranjit singh (Ranjan) grows up,so also his twin Ajit-an expert Archer.Once Ajit saves the Prince’s fiancee Madhumati(Nasreen) from the attack of outlaw Maansingh.Madhumati, princess of Anjangarh, thinks that the prince was the rescuer. After a long and eventful screenplay,at the end Asha(mother of twins) appears and the loyal Vazir spills the beans and everything is fine !
RANJAN was a popular star of B and C grade movies in 50s and 60s.He was expert in sword fighting-in reality too-and featured in such type of movies.
Master Bhagwan did the role of Bahadur,Ajit’s friend who loves Chakori(Ratnamala),the Princess’s maid.

Peevesie’s Mom ji,
Yes,he is the same actor who did the role of Shashank in Chandralekha-1948.
Born as Ramnarayana Venkatramana Sarma,he was named as Ranjan in 1942.
His career started with Tamil film Ashok kumar(1941).
He acted in 28 Hindi movies, some of them are Shin shinaki bubla boo(1952),Ishq Ishq Ishq-1975,Jaan Hazir hai-1975,Ram Balram(as Thekedar)-1980,his last film .
As far as I know, the actor who died while doing a scene on Horseback was SHYAM KUMAR(film-Shabistan).
Ranjan was born in 1918 and died in 1983,of illness.

OK Deshmukhji. thank you for the information.
whenever you give information i feel i am talking to my dad. he is also a treasure trove as far as movies of that era is concerned. and he has been watching movies since 1950 i think since he was 12; before that he has seen whatever my grandfather showed him. even my grandfather had a collection of K.L.Saigal records which he has passed on to us but unfortunately we r unable to play it as our record player pin is spoilt.

Arun sir,
My guess is that you must be atleast 75 years of age(E.&O.E.),otherwise how can you have so much of knowledge about old films?
Ofcourse knowledge is not bound to age.
