Aaj koi pyaar se dil ki baaten kah gayaa

on:I have heard this song many a times but I was not aware of its details till recently. It is only just now that I have come to know that this song is from “Saawan Ki Ghata” (1966). The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. The music is composed by O P Nayyar.
The music is wonderful to listen to. In fact, most listeners may remember the tune more than the lyrics. When I paid attention to the lyrics I realised that S H Bihari has written a very nice song expressing the joy that the actress is feeling.
And who is the actress on whom this song is picturised ? It is picturised on Mumtaz and other females frolicking under a waterfall. This had to be one of the very first wet sari song that Mumtaz figured in. Getting wet in water and enjoying it, Mumtaz would soon become an expert in such songs, especially when paired up with Rajesh Khanna in future movies. And apparently, it all began here in this song.
Here is this lovely, lively and joyous song, which one can keep listening to, over and over again, without feeling bored.

Song-Aaj koi pyaar se dil ki baaten keh gayaa (Saawan Ki Ghata) (1966) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-S H Bihari, MD-O P Nayyar
Lyrics
aaj koi pyaar se
dil ki baaten kah gayaa,
haay
main to aage badh gayi
peechhe zamaanaa rah gayaa,
haay raam
aaj koi pyaar se
cheer kar patthar kaa seenaa
jhoom kar jharnaa bahaa
jis mei ik toofaan thaa sau karwaten letaa huaa
aaj maujon ki rawaani mein kinaaraa bah gayaa
haay,
ik kinaaraa bah gayaa
main to aage badh gayi
peechhe zamaanaa rah gayaa,
haay raam
aaj koi pyaar se
dil ki baaten kah gayaa,
haay raam
aaj koi pyaar se
unke honthon par hansi,
haay khil ke jab lahraa gayi
wo bhi kuchh ghabraa gaye
main bhi kuchh sharmaa gayi
wo bhi kuchh ghabraa gaye
aur main bhi kuchh sharmaa gayi
kuchh nahin kahte huye bhi
koi sab kuchh kah gayaa
haay,
koi sab kuchh kah gayaa
main to aage badh gayi
peechhe zamaanaa rah gayaa,
haay raam
aaj koi pyaar se
dil ki baaten kah gayaa,
haay raam
aaj koi pyaar se

My favourite song from SAWAN KI GHATA is ‘Hoton pe hansi ankhon mein nasha pehchan hai mere dilbar ki’. Unfortunately, it appears that this song was not picturised. Here is the audio clip :

I remembered this song the minute I saw the lyrics and what a joyful song it is! In fact, I was able to recollect the words as I sang along with the song, which means that such lyrics, conveying such pure joy, get imprinted in the brains of listeners and remain there, to be recalled after God alone knows how many years! Thanks, Atul!
