Rakhiya bandhwaa le bhaiyya
Posted August 13, 2011
on:Today ( 13 august 2011) is Rakshabandhan, also known as Rakhi, which is a festival where sisters tie rakhi on the wrists of their brothers.
This is the fourth Rakhi for this blog. During the first three Rakhi occasions, we discussed the most well known Rakhi songs of hindi movies. But it does not mean that there are no more Rakhi songs left to be discussed. Not at all. There are Hindi movie songs for all occasions and in good numbers and Rakhi festival is no exception.
Here is a rare song which may not be known to many music lovers. In fact, even I became aware of this song only just now while looking for Rakhi songs.
This song is from a forgotten movie called “Actor” (1951). In this song ,Meena Kapoor calls upon her bhaiyya to come and get rakhi tied on his wrist. The bhaiyya himself is unable to come and sister has not been allowed by her husband to go and meet her brother. It is a very poignant and very real life situation. To make matters worse, those were the days of poor communications, unlike what it is now. Now a days, one can talk on phone, or send e mail or sent greeyings on mobile phone or do many other things, but in the past, one needed to be physically go to one’s near and dear ones iof one wanted to celebrate important festiveal with them. And this festival is important !
Here is this rare song for the readers to savour on this occasion. I have only been able to identify the female voice which belongs to Meena Kapoor. I am unable to identify the male voice and I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify that voice. Nazim Panipati is the lyricist. Music is composed by the music director duo of Aziz Hindi -Ibrahim. This is the first appearance of this music director duo on this blog.
PS-Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh informs that this movie originally had Ibrahim as the music director who composed four songs and then he expired. After his death, Aziz Hindi was signed up as music director and he composed six songs, including the song under discussion. So this movie did not have a music director duo but two separae music directors.
Song-Rakhiya bandhwaa le bhaiyya (Actor) (1951) Singers-Meena Kapoor, Lyrics-Nazim Panipati, MD-Aziz Hindi

rakhiyaa bandhwaa le more bhaiyya
bhaiyya
raakhi aayi hai
ho raakhi aayi hai

Arun Ji,
Thanks for clarification.
We need to change the year from 1952 to 1951 for ALBELA in the list of songs – movie-wise and other places in the blog.

Atul ji,
ACTOR-1951 was aRoshan Pictures production directed by Ramji Arya (who had also directed Hind ka lal,Manthan,Toofan express,Bhedi dushman and some other films of this grade). The cast included Master Bhagwan,Ramola devi,Sunder,Murad,Sulochana,Babulal,Cuckoo etc.
This film was a failed poor copy of Bhagwan’s Albela.
As far as the Music Directors are concerned, please note that this was NOT a duo,but two separate Composers giving music to one film.
Master Ibrahim (or Ibrahim Master) had already given independent music to Bigde Dil-1949 and while giving music to Actor,he died suddenly.Hence Aziz Hindi was brought in to complete the film.
Aziz Hindi has given music to films like Parivartan-49 (a Raj kapoor film),Biwi-1950,Danka-54,Dhoop Chhaon-54 and Chalta Purja-1958.

The above song is composed by Aziz Hindi.
There were total 10 songs.
6 were done by Aziz Hindi and 4 were done by both combined.
The singer’s name of above song is given as Meena Kapoor aur Saathi.

How could be ACTOR (1951) a copy of ALBELA (1952) ?
Or am I missing something ?
