Andhe ne bhi sapna dekha

Posted on: September 16, 2011

“Sujata” (1959) is a critically acclaimed movie and it is a musical blockbuster too. I am aware of most of the better known songs of this movie, which have gone on to become evergreen classics. But this movie also has a few lesser known songs.

Here is one such lesser known song from “Sujata” (1959). I became awre of this song only recently when the lyrics of this song were sent to me by nahm. This song is sung by Rafi. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. S D Burman composed the music.

The lyrics of this song suggest that the song is a light hearted song. The song was apparently picturised and was part of the movie, but its video does not seem to be available as of now. Perhaps the DVD/VCD manufactureres have decided to exclude this song from the movie. To this is a case of a song being excluded from the movie by its DVD sellers. Indeed, if censors and movie makers can delete songs from the movie then why not them. As for the music lovers, they do not really count do they ?

So here is this deleted from the movie by DVD manufacturers song from “Sujata” (1959). In case any of our knowledgeable readers have seen the picturisation of this song, I request them to tell us about the picturisation of this song.

Song-Andhe ne bhi sapna dekha (Sujata) (1959) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-S D Burman

Lyrics(Provided by nahm)

oh ho
andhe neb hi sapna dekha
ha ha
hahahaha
kya hai zamaana
ah ha ha ha
andhe ne bhi sapna dekha
kya hai zamaana
goonga bhi ab gaane baitha
pyaar ka gaana
soojhe sur na taal
waah bhai waah
waah bhai waah
waah bhai waah
waah bhai waah

ulfat ki balaayen
dekho kya dikhaayen
lo inke bhi lageen
chaahat ki hawaayen
ulfat ki balaayen
dekho kya dikhaayen
lo inke bhi lageen
chaahat ki hawaayein
ho gayaa
aaj to
preet ka
waah pyaare
andhe ne bhi sapna dekha
kya hai zamaana
goonga bhi ab gaane baitha
pyaar ka gaana
ha ha ha
soojhe sur na taal
waah bhai waah
waah bhai waah
waah bhai waah
waah bhai waah

raaton ko jagoge
arre tum to bekhudi mein
par ham ko jaagna hogaa
khaali dosti mein
raaton ko jagoge
tum to bekhudi mein
par ham ko jaagna hogaa
khaali dosti mein
kuchh hamaara nahin
intezaam
waah pyaare
andhe ne bhi sapna dekha
kya hai zamaana
goonga bhi ab gaane baitha
pyaar ka gaana
ha ha
soojhe sur na taal
waah bhai waah
waah bhai waah
waah bhai waah
waah bhai waah

achcha khair jaao
aankhein na dikhaao
wo dil ki raani kaun hai
hamse bhi bataao
le paate nahin
uskaa naam
waah pyaare
andhe neb hi sapna dekha
kya hai zamaana
goonga bhi ab gaane baitha
pyaar ka gaana
ha ha
soojhe sur na taal
waah bhai waah
waah bhai waah
waah bhai waah
waah bhai waah

I saw this movie so many years ago, 1960, I think, when it was released. The song is sung by Sunil Dutt’s friend who teases him when he realizes that the serious and non marrying type Sunil has fallen in love. The song is set in the library of Sunil’s home, and Sunil smiles gently at the teasing, holding the books in his hand, and looking at some of them.
The words are so apt!

I remember seeing this movie when it was first released, 1960 maybe. The song is sung by Sunil Dutt’s friend to him when he realizes that his serious and marriage shy friend has fallen in love. The song is sung in a library, maybe Sunil’s home? Or a college, is Sunil a Professor in the movie, I don’t remember.
Sunil Dutt holds some books in his hands, and looks at them, accepting the gentle teasing of his friend. the words are so apt, considering the context.

I have the video tape of this movie which had this song sequence. But I don’t have the VCR to play it. It is picturized on Prabhu Dayal teasing Sunil Dutt in the library.
