I was aware of a movie called “Alibaba Aur chaalis Chor” (1979) which was an Indo-Soviet Union Collaboration. But I was not aware that a movie on the same well known Arabian tale was prooduced in 1966 as well. This movie , titled “Alibaba and forty thieves” was a Basant pictures Production and it was directed by Homi Wadia. The movie had Sanjeev Kumar, L Vijaylaxmi, Veena, Tabassum,David Abraham, B.M.Vyas,Indira Billi, S.N.Tripathi, Kamal Mehra, Kishan Mehta etc in it.
This movie offers good opportunities for some “Arabian” style songs and dances. And indeed this movie had some nice songs on this theme.
Here is a lovely song from this movie. The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle with gusto. The song is picturised on L Vijaylaxmi, Veena and Tabassum. Usha Khanna is the composer of this lilting music.
This movie had two lyricists, viz Prem Dhawan and Jawed Anwar. I am not aware about the lyricist of this song. I request our knowledgeable readers to tell us about the lyricist of this song.
