“Dara Singh the ironman” (1964) is an N C Films production. It was directed by Kedar Kapoor. The movie obviously had Dara Singh in it. Others in the cast include Nishi, Tiwari, Jeewan, Tabassum, Salim Khan,Mohan Choti etc.
Normally Dara Singh is there in such movies to display his body and to indulge in lots of fighting, much to the glee of the predominantly rural and semi rural fans who formed the audience of Dara Singh movies in rundown seedy movie halls. Female audience used to be conspicuous by their absence in such movies during those days. One finds that now even female movie warchers have joined the bandwagon of Dara Singh admirers and these female admirers of Dara Singh are in turn converting their admirers into Dara Singh admirers. 🙂
Dara Singh may not be much into singing and dancing, but he would dutifully attend such songs and dances, mostly as a member of the audience. But sometimes he would have a better view of the performers that even the front row audience, viz he would be present near the performers so that the lead performer (the heroine of the movie) could tease him from close quarters.
Here in this song, Nishi and her sahelis sing and dance to the tune of this lovely song. In this song, Nishi is asking Dara Singh to get her nimboo (lemon), that too green lemon (Kachcha neemboo), because she feels pain in her chest. Now I have no clue how green lemon can cure chest pain, and as it turns out, even Dara Singh is just as clueless. After several stanzas when Nishi and co. continue to ask Dara Singh to bring kachhaa nimbuaa to cure her pain, Dara Singh can take it no more and he too joins the singing and dancing. “I cannot see you in any pain whatsover, I am not one to be impressed by your nakhras. You will get my fist instead of nimboo if you continue to pester me”- this is the typical ironman kind of response from Dara Singh.
One has no time to dwell over such high handedness on the part of Dara Singh, because one is distracted by his antics. Yes, one finds that Dara Singh is actually dancing ! And come to think of it, his dancing could even be better than the dancing of many main stream heroes (Dev Anand, Raj Kumar, Dharmendra etc).
This lovely and lively dance song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Mahendra Kapoor. Prem Dhawan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Hansraj Bahl.
