Remembering Mahendra Kapoor today, 9th Jan, his birth anniversary.
As I am searching for songs to post for today, I came across this simply super gem of a melody which I have heard long time back, and which has since been eluding me. This song just has to be counted amongst the best and softest duets ever. Rendered softer than silk and softer than velvet, this duet is by Asha ji and Mahendra ji. I am sure as you would hear this, the reaction is going to be, “wow, not posted yet?”.
The film is 1968 “Apna Ghar Apni Kahaani”, a social drama produced under the banner of Rachna Films, Bombay, and directed by Phani Mazumdar. The music in this film is composed by N Dutta and the lyrics are by Qamar Jalaalabaadi. The star cast of the film includes Shekhar, Bina Roy, Mumtaz, Sudhir, Bela Bose, David, Brahm Bhardwaj, Madhumati, Keshto Mukherjee, Keshav Rana, Baby Farida etc. One song from this film is already posted on this blog, i.e. “Aaj Kehti Hai Kisi Ki Zindagi Rotey Huye” . I have not been able to locate more information on this film, and I request other readers to please add more information about it.
Enjoy is wonderfully soft duet, performed by Mumtaz and Sudhir on screen – the scenario is a carefree moonlit night, and the lovers are in a boat. The on screen situation and performance is also equally endearing. The instrumental part of the music is very soft and very subdued, and it is the voices that carry the song and make the music. A real gem of a song.

Another song ‘ Jigar mein dard kaisa ‘ from this film was posted yesterday by Kamath ji along with a write up(9-1-2012).
I have already given the details and storyline of APNA GHAR APNI KAHANI as a comment to that song,yesterday only.
