Tasweer e muhabbat thhi jismein hamne wo sheesha tod diyaa

Posted on: March 16, 2012

Regulars of this blog may have noticed that I have been discussing very few songs these days by the standards of this blog. One main reason for this is that I am travelling these days. I have arrived at New Delhi for two days in this connection.

New Delhi, one may ask ! Yes indeed ! I am here to attend a two days official meeting, but the highlight of my visit already took place for me yesterday. It was an unofficial and informal meeting, but one that made my day, or rather evening and night for me yesterday.

When I came to know that I was going to New Delhi, I realised that it was a heavensent opportunity for me to meet with Sudir jee, our beloved Sudhir Kapur in person. I e-mailed him up minutes before I was to board my train to New Delhi. He immediately e mailed me back and expressing his eagerness to meet me too.

I arrived New Delhi on 15th of march 2012, attended my meeting till 4-15 PM. Sudhir jee had arranged to pick me up after my meeting. He arrived to pick me up at the appointed place.

It was at 5-30 PM that I finally came across the person that I was so looking forward to meeting. It was like a dream come true for me.

We spent the next six hours together and they were the most fruitful and rewarding six hours that I may have ever spent with a person.

Right from the time we proceeded towards his home, we kept on chatting a lot on lots and lots of topics pertaining to our common interest, viz old Hindi movie songs.

When we reached his home, he showed me his music related collections. Waah ! waah ! what a collection !

He has got stacks upon stacks of music and movies in various formats, and all stacked together neatly and systematically. And then he has lots and lots of publications related to Hindi movie songs, viz Geetkosh, books on Kishore Kumar, Hemant Kumar, Mukesh etc and lot and lots of other invaluable stuff. Seeing how systematically he has organised his stuff gave me lots of ideas on how to set my musical collection in order. But being the lazy person that I am, let me see if I can muster enough motivation to get myself organised.

Sudhir jee played lots of rare and unheard of songs on his computer. He shared lots of interesting stuff that he had learnt during his meetings with eminent Hindi movie historians viz. Harmandir Singh Hamraz, Nalin Shah etc.

Much of our discussion revolved around the blog. We discussed future plans for the blog and how to go about them. We discussed the songs and artists that we needed to feature in the days to come. We also discussed about our regulars and whether I had met them too. I told him that the only other regular that I had met earlier was Raja. Of course, I would like to meet the other regulars too, when I get the opportunity.

It was a very memorable evening for me as I mentioned above. There were lots and lots of things to discuss, but time never stands still. It was already late so six hours later, we finally called it a day.

This will be the second and final song for the day as I have to once again go and attend my official meeting the whole day. In the evening, I will depart by an evening train.

Hopefully I will be able to discuss lots of songs during the weekend when I go back.

At this moment, here is this superb song from “Sangharsh” (1968). This song is a mujra song which is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is picturised on Vyjyantimala, Balraj Sahni and Dilip Kumar.

Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist and Naushad composed the music.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra. This song is so nice to listen to that I was holding it back. Here is this song on this special occasion when I was able to meet up with Sudhir jee in person.

Song-Tasweer e mohabbat thhi jismein humne wo sheesha tod diyaa (Sangharsh)(1968) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Naushad

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

tasveer-e-mohabbat thi jismein
humne woh sheeshaa tod diyaa
tod diya
tod diyaa
ho o o o
humne woh sheeshaa tod diyaa
tod diya
tod diya
hanske hanske jeena seekh liya
ghut ghutke marnaa chhod diya
chhod diya
chhod diyaa
aaa aaa aaaa aaaaa
ghut ghutke marnaa chhod diya
chhod diya
chhod diyaa

phir hai jhankaar wohi
phir hai baazaar wohi
phir haseen shaam wohi
phir mera kaam wohi
phir haseen shaam wohi
phir mera kaam wohi
yaa dil ke tukde kar daale
yaa dil ko dil se jod diya
jod diyaa jod diyaa
o o o o
yaa dil ko dil se jod diya
jod diya jod diyaa

dil ki aawaaz hai kya
ho o o o
jaane ye raaz hai kya
dil ki aawaaz hai kyaa
aaaa
jaane ye raaz hai kya
aaj samjhe to koi
humse poochhe to koi
humse poochhe to koi
yaa khud hi mohabbat toot gayee
ya hamne pyaar tod diya
tod diyaa
tod diyaa
ho o o o
hans hanske jeena seekh liya
ghut ghutke marna chhod diyaa
chhod diya
chhod diya

pyaar ka naam-o-nishaan
aaj duniya mein kahaan
pyaar ka naam-o-nishaan
aaj duniya mein kahaan
dil ko jab thes lagee
aayee hothon pe hansee
dil ko jab thes lagee
aayee hothon pe hansee
aayee hothon pe hansee
taqdeer ke gham se ghabraakar
rukh zindagi ka mod diya
mod diya mod diya
ho o o o
tasveer-e-mohabbat thi jismein
hamne woh sheeshaa tod diya
tod diya
tod diya
aa aa aa aa
hamne woh sheesha tod diya
tod diya
tod diya

How wonderful that the two of you were able to meet! I can imagine how passionate the discussion about old songs would have been. I still have fond memories of our meeting, Atul. 🙂

Dr. Doshi ji,
Thanks so much for your blessings. I hope we are able to live up to these good wishes.

Arun ji,
Yes, God willing, we will plan to meet. Hopefully I may need to travel to Mumbai sometimes in the next few months.

Raja ji,
Thanks for your message; yes a very absorbing meeting it was.

If the stars work in favor, maybe we should plan for a meeting of a larger group. Hopefully. . .
🙂

Rgds

Sorry for the late comments:
Atulji & Sudhirji,
This is the stuff what a real friendship is made of.
About the film :
During the whole course of the shooting, Dilip and Vyjantimala were not on talking terms. But was anyone wiser? This is what is real acting!!!
