Main to baanke nainon waali

Posted on: March 20, 2012

“Chhoomantar” (1956) was a Sadiq Production movie. It was produced and directed by M Sadiq. Starcast of the movie included names like Johny Walker, Shyama, Karan Dewan, Jagirdar, S. Banerjee, Raj Mehra, Amar, Anita Guha, etc.

The movie had music by O P Nayyar, so one can take it for granted that the movie was full of nice lilting songs in it.

As many as five songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the sixth song from the movie.

This song is a duet which is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Rafi. Picturisation of the song begins by showing a house full audience seated patiently in a hall. Then we see a bevy of ladies clad in traditional Maharashtrian attire arriving at the stage led by Shyama who sets the ball rolling by lip syncing in Asha Bhonsle’s voice. That is followed by Rafi’s voice, and the person lip syncing is Johny Walker. No, he is not in the stage, he is seated at the farthest point from the stage, viz in a box seat of the hall. How is it that he sings so loud and clear without any time gap from such a great distance. That is when the laws of Bollywood physics, (which are somewhat different from the laws of physics as we know them) come to our rescue. In the real life physics, light travels faster than sound, but according to Bollywood’s law of physics, also known as Ava’s law, sound travels faster than light. This law explains how two actors can sing loud and clear and in perfect sync even if they are separated by hundred of meters (and sometimes hundreds of kilometers as well).

No wonder Johny Walker is able to communicate so well with Shyama in the hall where the jam packed audience maintain perfect pin drop silence for the entire duration of the song :).

Here is this lovely song from “Chhoomanter”(1956). The song is written by Jaan Nisaar Akhtar.

Song-Main to baanke nainon waali (Chhoomantar)(1956) Singers-Asha Bhonsle, Rafi, Lyrics-Jaan Nisaar Akhtar, MD-O P Nayyar

Lyrics

main to baanke nainon waali
meri baaten hain niraali
dekho duniya kare mose pyaaaar
duniya kare mose pyaar
aeji chhodo ye fasaana
jaaye choolhe mein zamaana
dekho dil hai yahaan beqaraaaar
dil hai yahaan beqaraar

main to baanke nainon waali

laakh adaayen
laakh ishaare
jo bhi dekhe
jaan ko waare (?)
hoy
mera to aaj zamaana
nazar na haay lagaana
mera to aaj zamaana
maaroongi nain kataar
maaroongi nain kataar
aeji chhodo ye fasaana
jaaye choolhe mein zamaana
dekho dil hai yahaan beqaraaaar
dil hai yahaan beqaraar

main to baanke nainon waali

jaan bachaana
ab nahin mumkin
reh gaye ab to haay das din
hoy
koi to shaql bataao
hamaari jaan bachaao
koi to shaql bataao
o o o
dil hai yahaan beqaraaaar
dil hai yahaan beqaraar

main to baanke nainon waali
meri baaten hain niraali
dekho duniya kare mose pyaaaar
duniya kare mose pyaar
aeji chhodo ye fasaanaa

baat kisi ki main nahin maanoon
sabke dil ka haal main jaanoon
hoy
koi ho laakh deewaana
chale na ek bahaana
koi ho laakh deewaanaaaa
main to badi hushiyaaaaar
main to badi hushiyaar
aeji chhodo ye fasaana
jaaye choolhe mein zamaana
dekho dil hai yahaan beqaraaaar
dil hai yahaan beqaraar

main to baanke nainon waali
meri baaten hain niraali
dekho duniya kare mose pyaaaar
duniya kare mose pyaar
aeji chhodo ye fasaana
