Pyaar ki aag mein tan badan jal gaya

Posted on: June 1, 2012

“Ziddi” (1964), not to be confused with “Ziddi”(1948) was a Pramod Films Production. It was produced and directed by Pramod Chgakravorty. The movie had Joy Mukherjee, Asha Parekh, Mehmood, Shobha Khote, Dhumal, Raj Mehra, Sulochana, Ullhas, Madan Puri, Nazima, Majnu, etc in it.

The movie was a musical blockbuster. The movie had eight songs in it and all of them became very popular and even evergreen classics.

I have discussed as many as seven out of these eight songs in the past.

Here is the eighth and final song from “Ziddi” (1964). This song is sung by Manna Dey and it is picturised on Mehmood , Shubha Khote, Dhumal etc as part of the movie’s CSP (comic side plot) which sometimes tended to overshadow the main plot of the movie. The picturisation shows Shubha Khote getting married off to someone else by Dhumal (her father in all these CSPs) instead of getting married to Mehmood, (her lover in all these CSPs).

This song is supposed to be a light hearted song, though I would beg to disagree. Seeing one’s beloved getting married to someone else cannot be funny for the parties concerned, but it is Hindi movie CSP we are talking about where such a scene is supposed to elicit mirth among movie watchers.

Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by S D Burman.

Here is this nice song which to my mind is better heard than watched. And I am happy that “Ziddi” (1964) now joins the list of those movies where all songs have already been discussed in the blog.

Song-Pyaar ki aag mein tan badan jal gaya (Ziddi)(1964) Singer-Manna Dey, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-S D Burman

Lyrics

duniya banaane waale
sun le meri kahaani
roye meri muhabbat
tadpe
tadpe meri jawaani
een een

pyaar ki aag mein tan badan jal gaya
pyaar ki aag mein tan badan jal gaya
jaane phir kyun jalaati hai duniya mujhe
jaane phir kyun jalaati hai duniya mujhe
pyaar ki aag mein tan badan
jal gaya

main to rota phiroon
baadalon ki tarah
thandi aahen bharoon
paaglon ki tarah
main to rota phiroon
baadalon ki tarah
arre main to
ho ho ho
rotaaa phiroon
oon oon
main to rota phiroon
baadalon ki tarah
thandi aahen bharoon
paaglon ki tarah
jaane phir kyun
oon oon
phir kyun
jaane phir kyun
rulaati hai duniya mujhe
pyaar ki aag mein tan badan jal gaya
pyaar ki aag mein tan badan
jal gaya

baat jab main karoon
munh se nikle dhuaan
jal gaya
jal gaya
mere dil ka jahaan
baat jab main karoon
munh se nikle dhuaan
baat jab main karoon
munh se nikle dhuaan
arre jal gaya
jal gaya
mere dil ka jahaan
jaane phir kyun
oon oon
phir kyun
jaane phir kyun sataati hai duniya mujhe
pyaar ki aag mein tan badan jal gaya
pyaar ki aag mein tan badan jal gaya

ishq mujhko nachaata raha hai sadaa
kyaa kyaa sapne dikhaata raha hai sadaa
ishq mujhko nachaata raha hai sadaa

ishq mujhko nachaata raha hai sadaa
kyaa kyaa sapne dikhaata raha hai sadaa
jaane phir kyun
oon oon
phir kyun
jaane phir kyun
nachaati hai duniya mujhe
pyaar ki aag mein tan badan jal gaya
pyaar ki aag mein tan badan jal gaya
tan badal jal gaya
tan badal
jal gaya

Here is where the brilliance of SD Burman Da comes in. He reflects this sentiment perfectly by basing the song on Darbari Kanada (a dignified, emotional raag – think O Duniya ke rakhwale) but uses Manna Dey’s classical skills to present the song with comedic twists for Mehmood.
Sheer genius!
