The worship of Lord Ganesh has been in vogue for thousands of years as a private affair. It was forst organised as a public celebration in 1893 in Maharashtra at the initiative of Bal Gangadhar Tilak. In a few years time it became a massive public event in Maharashtra and elsewhere as well.
The Ganesh Aarti “Jai Ganesh Jai Ganesh Jai Ganesh Deva” is a standard aarti for the worship of Ganesh. I wonder how old it is. My feeling is that it was penned sometime after 1893.
I wonder whether it was in existence before Hindi movies. I have felt that it is a a traditional aarti whose author is not known, but I may be wrong.
Just now I came to realise that a song in “Maha Pooja” (1954) contains this aarti. Whether this film aarti is inspired from some alreday existing aarti or it was this movie aarti that was then adopted by people as a standard Ganesh aarti is not known to me. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this matter.

the music director of this song is SHANKAR RAO VYAS(as per HFGK 3)(in the post it is wrongly mentioned as Avinash Vyas)

Dear Atul ji,
From my personal experience I can say that the Ganesh Aarti predates the film song. I remember singing this Aarti with my family even when I was a child much before the year 1954, when the film was released.
I am grateful to you for doing a great job of entertaining hundreds of music lovers through your blog.
