“Raj Kanya” (1955) was directed by Vinod Desai and produced by C C Desai. The movie had Manhar Desai, Nalini Jaiwant, Bipin Gupta, Sunder, Smriti Biswas, B. M. Vyas, Kumkum, Sapru etc in it.

Today (25 february 2014) is the 22nd death anniversary of Manhar Desai (3 august 1917- 25 february 1992). On this occasion, here is a song from “Raj Kanya” (1955). This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Rafi. Only the audio of this song is available, but it is known (thanks to Rafi excel sheet) that this song was picturised on Nalini Jaiwant and Manhar Desai.

Gopal Singh Nepali is the lyricist. Music is composed by Chitragupta.

Song-Tasweer nayan mein thhi jinki (Raj Kanya)(1955) Singers-Asha Bhonsle, Rafi, Lyrics-Gopal Singh Nepali, MD-Chitragupta

Lyrics

Tasveer nayan mein thhi jinki
wo aansoo bankar bikhar gaye
pehchan hui anjaanon mein
jab pyaar hua to bichchad gaye

chheda aakar ke bahaaron mein
jo geet yahaan wo geet wahaan
sangeet bani nas nas mein baji
jo preet yahaan wo preet wahaan
ulfat ne hamein hansne ko kahaa
jab hansne lage to ujad gaye
pehchaan hui anjaanon mein
jab pyaar hua to bichchad gaye

kal ka sindoor abhi sar pe
par saanwariya ka pata nahin
laakhon taaron ki duniya mein
apni duniya ka pata nahin
nazron mein jinko baandha thha
bheegi palkon se utar gaye
pehchaan hui anjaanon mein
jab pyaar hua to bichchad gaye

maujon mein machal ke khushiyon ka
rangeen bulbula phhoot gaya
saamne rahen do dil machlen
wo aaj silsila toot gaya

tum aansoo liye idhar aaye
wo sarbas lekar udhar gaye

Such songs are Asha’s forte. No one can beat her. With Rafi she just zooooms. No wonder they have max duets.
