In the earlier days of this blog, I would just discuss songs that occurred to me. With time, when we had some critical mass of songs we began to think in terms of discussing all the songs figuring in movies. At that time we relied upon our readers possessing HFGK to tell us which songs from which movies remained to be discussed.
Our beloved inhouse encyclopaedi Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh had undertaken a massive project to going through the list of all movies and its songs figuring in the blog, and compared them with the list of songs mentioned in HFGK and came up with a list of movies that had one or two songs remaining to be covered. This project which took nearly a month or so added a new dimension to the posting of songs in the blog. We began to cover all the songs of movies and began to colour these titles in orange to indicate the fact. By now, we have discussed all the songs in case of 454 movies (adding up to 3320 songs), more than one third of the songs covered in the blog.
With time, we found that myswar had also come up with an online list of songs in movies which were copied from HFGK. It became useful for those of us who did not have HFGK.
But it turned out that sometimes the entries of myswar differed from that in HFGK. And whenever myswar tried to be different from HFGK, they more often than not ended up with erroneous entries. Under these circumstances, one had to go back to the entry in HFGK and work from there.
I will illustrate my point through a movie called “Aag Ka Dariya” (1953). This movie has 11 songs according to myswar, including one multiple version song (with two versions). So far nine songs from this movie have been discussed in the blog.
One of the remaining songs is mentioned in myswar as “Log Kehte Hain Mujhe Haazir Jawab” which is sung by Rafi and Khan Mastana. I searched this song far and wide for several days but drew a blank. Then I discovered the fact that no song with such wordings exist. There is only one song in “Aag Ka Dariya” (1953) which is sung by Rafi and Khan Mastana and it goes “Wo Zamaana Aur Thha aur ye zamaana aur hai”. It turned out that myswar copied from HFGK without cross checking and compounded the error some more at their end. HFGK itself had erroneously mentioned this song as “Log Kehte Hain Mujhe—–Woh Zamaana Aur Thha” sung by Rafi and Khan Mastana. While “Wo Zamaana Aur Thha” is indeed sung by Rafi and Khan Mastana, the words “Log Kehte Hain Mujhe” does not figure in the song at all. In fact “Log Kehte Hain ” is a separate song from “Aag Ka Dariya” (1953). This song is an Asha Bhonsle song and it goes “Log Kehte Hain Ke Tumne Mujhe Barbaad Kiya…chupke se na jaa o man ke raaja”.
It is clear that the myswar copied erroneous lyrics from HFGK and compounded the error by somehow conjuring up the words “Log kehte hain mujhe hazir jawaab” for this song and posting this entry which bore little resemblence to the original HFGK entry that was also incorrect.
Not just I, but quite a few other music lovers have in the past been looking for the song “Log kehte hain mujhe hazir jawaab” and drawing blank everytime. I in fact came up with a discussion on a site where some music lover requested this song and some other music lover dug deep and painstakingly pored over sources like HFGK, Book on Asha Bhonsle (Swarsha) etc to arrive at the conclusion that the song was actually “Wo Zamaana Aur Thha” and not as mentioned in myswar as well as HFGK.
Having sifted through misleading facts available online, now I have arrived at the real facts and I have managed to locate the actual song. Here is this song from “Aag Ka Dariya” (1953). This song has voices of Rafi, Khan Mastana and chorus, with some monosyllables uttered by a few unidentified voices as well. Aziz Kashmiri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Vinod.
Only the audio of this song is available. It appears to be a qawwali song. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.
PS-I remembered that this song has Rafi’s voice and so information about its picturisation should be available in the Rafi excel sheet. I find that the Rafi excel sheet also mentions this song as “Log kehte hain Mujhe Haazir Jawaab” and mentions that the song is picturised on Karan Dewan and Majnu. I hope that someone has actually paid attention to the identity of the actors on screen even if he/ she may not have paid attention to the lyrics of the song.

I always get nostalgic to read about the era gone by when, though, we were around , but due to many reasons not able to know the happenings taking place at that time.
Atul ji, I whole heartedly appreciate what you and fellow enthusiastic devouted soul are doing here on this blog. Many many salutes to you all for your painstaking selfless effort, spirit and dedication

yahaan ” taswe ” bahaana hai mana
The word is ‘taswe’ which means tears, usually artificial tears.
