It is a well known fact that one needs high quality training in any field of activity if one has to succeed in that field. People in real life know it. That is why we see students joining coaching classes for competitive examinations.

In Hindi movies though, hero is shows to be the best in all fields of activities without undergoing any kind of training in that field. And this is one of the major grouse that I have with Hindi movies. Hindi movies tend to convey a wrong message that one can have output without input.

The song under discussion is an exception though. We are aware of people attending coaching classes to enable them to make honest living. Here we find that one needs to be coached properly even for a life of petty crime. 🙂 This movie “Haath Ki Safaai” (1974) has budding pickpockets getting training in this specialised activity by a professional in the field. Satyen Kappu, known to many of us a “laachhar” baap of Amitabh Bachchan (in Deewaar) is shown playing the pick pocket tutor to budding aspirants.

In this song, the teacher and pupils pray to the Almighty to bless all people with prosperity so that they may have a large and prosperous “client” base to work on. This is such a refreshing change in approach from the “remonstrating with the Almighty” genre of songs that the Almighty is mostly subjected to in Hindi movies. 🙂

This fun song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and chorus and it is picturised on Satyen Kappu and lots of his young pupils. The pupils are eager learners as can be seen in their eagerness to pick the pockets of their fellow pupils and sometimes the pocket of their tutor as well. 🙂 And then they are also taken out to public places to practice their learnt skill under the watchful eyes of their guru.

Gulshan Bawra is the lyricist. Music is composed by Kalyanji Anandji.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

With this song, the fifth from the movie, “Haath Ki Safaai” (1974) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

oopar waale teri duniya mein
oopar waale teri duniya mein
kabhi jeb kisi ki na khaali miley
kabhi jeb kisi ki na khaali miley
koi bhi ghareeb na ho jag mein
koi bhi ghareeb na ho jag mein
har paakit mein hariyaali miley
har paakit mein hariyaali miley
oopar waale teri duniya mein
kabhi jeb kisi ka na khaali miley

hindu, muslim, sikh, isaayi
sab ki jebon mein paise hon
sab ki jebon mein paise hon
apni nazron mein ae malik
sab ke sab hi ik jaise hon
sab ke sab hi ik jaise hon
sab ke sab hi ik jaise hon
kabhi haar galey ka mil jaaye
kabhi kaanon ki hamen baali miley
oopar waale teri duniya mein
kabhi jeb kisi ka na khaali miley
koi bhi ghareeb na ho jag mein
har paakit mein haryaali miley

aa aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa aa
aaa aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa aa

itni si daya karna daata
hamen sada bachaana vardi se
hamen sada bachaana vardi se
paala na pade kabhi apna
kisi zaalim ya bedardi se
kisi zaalim ya bedardi se
kisi zaalim ya bedardi se
sab khush rahen
sab ke saath saath
humko bhi sada khushaali miley
oopar waale teri duniya mein
kabhi jeb kisi ka na khali miley
koi bhi ghareeb na ho jag mein
har paakit mein haryaali miley

ooper waale sun le neeche waalon ki pukaar
ooper vaale sun le niche waalon ki pukaar
arey jinko do deta hai malik
unko dena char
arey jinko do deta hai maalik
unko dena chaar

aadha unse hum lelenge
ho jaaye beda paar
aadha unse hum lelenge
ho jaaye beda paar

arey vaise to sab kuchh hai tera
jag ke paalan haar
bolo
jag ke paalan haar
saare jag ke paalan haar

dekho
ye apna dhandha
malik na karna manda
dete rehna yoon chanda aa
miley kabhi na kadka banda
miley kabhi na
kadka banda
miley kabhi na kadka banda

hum bhala sabhi ka chaahen
hai apni yehi duayen
hai apni yehi duayen
upar vale teri duniya mein
kabhi jeb kisi ka na khaali mile

koi bhi ghareeb na ho jag mein
har pakit me hariyaali mile

bolo haath ki safaai ki
jai
mm..
mehnat ki kamaai ki
jai
