#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 44 # ‘Shammi Kapoor – in remembrance #
——————————————————————————-

Today 21st October 2016 is the birth anniversary of Shammi Kapoor (21.10.1931-14.08.2011) – the ‘charming’ – ‘flamboyant’ – ‘infectious energetic’ (as some sources mentioned it) – ‘graceful’ etc.etc. One may keep on adding the adjectives that would come to mind and when one is talking of Hindi Cinema, we know we are talking of Shammi Kapoor.

That’s the magic of the ever charismatic Shammi Kapoor!!

If I wish to start from the ‘oldest memories of his films’, for me, the films that easily came to my mind are ‘Dil Deke Dekho’, ‘Junglee’, ‘Singapore’, ‘Bluff Master’, ‘Prince’, ‘Budtameez’, ‘Hero’, ‘Desh Premee’, those I watched during my school going days from 1975-1983.

Then, from 1983 onwards and up to 1986 I get to watched his films viz. ‘Betaab’, ‘An Evening In Paris’, ‘Rajkumar’, ‘Professor’, ‘Teesri Manzil’, ‘Vidhaata’, ‘Laat Saheb’, ‘Bramhachari’ (on TV I think), And ‘Ajooba’, ‘Hukumat’, ‘Tehelka’, ‘Chamatkar’, ‘Janam Samjha Karo’, ‘Rockstar’ in recent years.

I may not have watched many of his films. For instance I am quite sure that I have not watched “Kashmir Ki Kali” and “Tumsa Nahin Dekha” but given the familiarity with the songs from his films, it appears to me as if I have watched all his films including the above mentioned ones.
I must have watched many of his songs on arious song programmes (like ‘Chitrahaar’ etc) and that makes me feel that I have not missed much of his movies.

Watching his films or songs on TV gives the feeling thar ‘abhi kal ki hi to baat hai ke ho hamaare saath thhe’.
It doesn’t feel that he has left us.

He is there in the beautiful locations of ‘Kashmir’, of ‘Paris’ etc etc. He is there in the ‘grandeur’ of palaces, in the ‘highnesses of his ‘style’. The ‘majesty’ in the various roles he performed has been engraved forever in our minds. He rules there as a ‘royal prince’.

And that is why when in the film ‘Zameer-1975’, of which we are discussing a song today, when he says;

“Wo ghoda abhi tak paidaa nahin huaa jo Maharaj Singh ko apni peeth se giraa de”

One feel the assurance that, haan ‘is ghode ko to Maharaj Singh ji hi kaabu kar sakte hain’.

I actually become more familiar of his films through the songs mainly, when I started my collection of music (cassettes then) in 1985.
While I had got recorded a special compilation of songs of my choice in ninety minute cassette, later on I was always on the look out for more of his films’ songs. I collected all the four volumes brought out by EMI/HMV titled ‘Mohd Rafi Sings for Shammi Kapoor’.
Most of his songs had voice of Rafi Saab and the music for most of his films were by Shankar-Jaikishan.

What a wonderful journey of film-music! I just love the songs that Rafi Saab had sung for him, they are all beautiful and lovely songs.

He will always be remembered for his films and songs, and his own ‘style’ of performing them.

Very recently during my visit to Bangalore Raja ji and I talked about his films. And actually, while talking of Dev Anand and Shammi Kapoor, Raja ji had this interesting observation regarding his ‘up front posture’ while dancing and of the ‘leaning down posture’ of Dev Anand.
But, well, that is the part of a different post so at this point I will just present the today’s song in remembrance of Shammi Kapoor on his birth anniversary.

The Movie:

“Zameer-1975” was directed by Ravi Chopra for B.R.Films Pvt.ltd. Bombay. It was a ‘United Producers’ initiative and Produced by B.R.Chopra.

It had Shammi Kapoor, Saira Banu, Amitabh Bachchan, Madan Puri, Indrani Mukherjee, Ramesh Deo, Jagdish Raj, Hari Shivdasani, Prem Sagar, Master Alankar, Master Shailesh, Minoo Mumtaz, Nazir Kashmiri, Anand, and Janki Das. Vinod Khanna makes a ‘special appearance’ in this movie.
Master Chimpoo was introduced in this movie.

Story of this movie was written by C.J.Pavri, while the screenplay was written by B.R. Films story department. Dialogues of this movie were by Akhtar-Ul-Iman. R.P.Bapat assisted S.B.Mane in editing, while the Chief Editor was Pran Mehra.

This movie “Zameer-1975” had total eight songs (including one three version and one two version song). Today’s song is a multiple version (two versions) song.

Lyrics for one song were written by Rajkavi Tulsi, while the rest of the songs were written by Sahir Ludhianvi.

Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey and Mahendra Kapoor gave their voices to the songs in this movie.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 17.03.1975.

Today’s song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor which is the only song he sang in this movie and it is written by Sahir Ludhianvi. Sapan Chakravarty composed all songs of this movie including the today’s song.

There is a small clip ‘ab yahaan koi nahin-koi nahin aayegaa’ , which is the third version of the song ‘tum bhi chalo ham bhi chale, chalti rahe zindagi’ is mentioned on the main post on the blog and only the title ‘ab yahaan koyi’ needs to be mentioned on the page ‘List of Songs-moviwise’ 🙂

With this song all songs of this movie ‘Zameer-1975’ have been covered on the blog today.

Today also happens to be the birthday of my dear friend Ashish Tilak and I wish him a very happy birthday today and a health and peaceful life ahead. Though he is not directly connected to our blog, he has been my main support in uploading of songs on YT and also uploading of mp4s as and when I had requested him for my posts to do so.
(Happy Birthday Ashish and I hope you enjoy this one of Shammi Kapoor songs 🙂 )

Aaj koi na roke mujhko
chaahe jo karoon
Dharti kya hai
ambar pe bhi paanv na dharoon
Mere pyaar ka gulshan usne phir se mehkaaya aa
Bade dinon mein khushi ka din aaya aa
Arre bade dinon me khushi ka din aaya aa

Aaj ye jaana
kya matlab thha saare khel ka aa
Bichhade to badh jaata hai mazaa mel ka
Aaj ye jaana
kya matlab tha saare khel ka
Bichhade to badh jaata hai mazaa mel ka aa
Yahi soch kar us maalik ne kuchh din tarsaaya aa

Bahut badhai ho, Avinashji, on getting to your century. Ab, phir se guard leke, double century par nazar! 🙂 No, it’s ok, take it easy. 🙂

Nice song for Shammi Kapoor’s birthday. I watched Zameer for the first time only a few years ago. I deliberately avoided it when it was released – I wonder why. 🙂
