APNI IZZAT (1952) seems to be an obscure film as not much information about the story of the film is available on the internet. Harishchandra Pictures under which the film was produced was not a big banner. Nanabhai Bhatt directed the film. The star cast included Motilal and Munawwar Sultana in the lead role with Gope, Yakub, Agha, Yashodhara Katju, Sulochana Chatterjee, Raj Mehra, David etc in the supporting roles. The impressive star cast indicates that it was not a ‘B’ grade movie.
Munawwar Sultana in the film would generally mean that the film was a family melodrama. The presence of many character actors in the film would suggest that the story was weaved around a joint family. Yakub may have donned the role of a villain. Gope and Agha may have provided some interim relief to the audience from the melodrama. These are all my wild guesses.
The film had 7 songs written by as many as 5 lyricists – Verma Malik (3), Pandit Phani (1), Asad Bhopali (1), Bharat Vyas (1) and Shewan Rizvi (1). All the songs were composed by Hansraj Behl. Three songs from the film are already represented in the Blog.
Here is the fourth song, a rare one ‘kem chhe… tu mera sahab main teri mem’ from the film which is sung by S Balbir and Shamshad Begum. The song is written by Bharat Vyas. This song reminds me of the king of the comedy song of this genre, “Aana Meri Jaan Meri Jaan Sunday Ke Sunday” in which, in a stage show, Mumtaz Ali in Charlie Chaplin outfit tries to impress upon Dulari to get into the mould of western culture. He tries to woo the lady with offer of travel to London and Paris. In the song under discussion, it is the lady protagonist who dislikes the Indian culture and the male is trying to woo her by offering her to take her to Bombay, Delhi, Jaipur and Agra etc and also the offer to buy Indian ethnic dresses for her.
Such type of songs is more enjoyable to watch on video than listening on audio clips.

Yes, watching this type of song would have been more enjoyable, but listening this audio is also interesting and I enjoyed a lot. I always like to listen songs sung by Shamshad Begam. I was also reminded of ‘mere piya gaye rangoon’ ..
does this audio covers the complete song or there are few more lines?
