“Deepak”(1951) was directed by Chandrashekhar for Ram Ganguly Productiions, Bombay. this by now obscure movie had Prithviraj, Vijaylaxmi, Umesh Sharma, Arun Ganguly, Sajjan, Kamal Mehra, Shanti Madhok etc in it.

This movie had ten songs in it. Here is the first song from “Deepak”(1951) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Uma Devi. Madhukar Rajasthani is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ram Ganguly.

It is interesdting to note that Ram Ganguly the music director had produced this movie. It is also interesting to note that he had signed up Prithviraj Kapoor (I guess that Prithviraj in the cast is same as Prithviraj Kapoor) for his movie soon after he himself was throown out by Prithviraj Kapoor’s son Raj Kapoor from his movie “Barsaat”(1949). I am sure there has to be some interesting information behind all this.

Coming to the song itself, only the audio of this song is available. Uma Devi had sung as many as five songs in this movie and so it appears that she had sung for the leading lady of this movie. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.

I have not been able to get a few words right in the lyrics. I request our readers with keener ears to help fill in the blanks/ suggest corrections wherever applicable in the lyrics.

It is clear that the tune of this song is an unabashed lift from Uma Devi’s famous song Afsana likh rahi hoon(Dard)(1947)

With this song, “Deepak”(1951) makes its debut in the blog.

Song-Sooraj chaand sitaare jab tak shobha neel gagan ki (Deepak)(1951) Singer-Uma Devi, Lyrics-Madhukar Rajasthani, MD-Ram Ganguly

Sooraj chaand sitaare jab tak
shobha neel gagan ki
phoolo phalo khush raho sad tum
yahi dua mere man ki
Sooraj chaand sitaare jab tak
shobha neel gagan ki
phoolo phalo khush raho sad tum
yahi dua mere man ki

tere sukh mein dukh hai mera
tere dukh mein dukh hai mera
tere sukh mein dukh hai mera
tere dukh mein dukh hai mera
tera hansna jeewan mera
mujhe rulaaye rona tera
sab kuchh kho kar tujhko paa loon
yahi hai aas jeewan ki
sab kuchh kho kar tujhko paa loon
yahi hai aas jeewan ki
Sooraj chaand sitaare jab tak
shobha neel gagan ki
phoolo phalo khush raho sad tum
yahi dua mere man ki

jis pathh se tu aaye jaaye
binengee kaanten palken
jis pathh se tu aaye jaaye
binengee kaanten palken
tere liye jitna bhi karoon
wo kam rah jaaye kar ke
toone sote bhaag jagaaye
jyoti bane ankhiyan ki
toone sote bhaag jagaaye
jyoti bane ankhiyan ki
Sooraj chaand sitaare jab tak
shobha neel gagan ki
phoolo phalo khush raho sad tum
yahi dua mere man ki

o pyaare kuldeepak mere
tujhe kasam mamta ki ee
tujhe kasam mamta ki
o pyaare kuldeepak mere
tujhe kasam mamta ki ee
tujhe kasam mamta ki
aaj aa tu ek baar god mein
sun le mujh se lorie
maa kehna tu
kahoongi beta
sudh budh kho ke tan ki
maa kehna tu
kahoongi beta
sudh budh kho ke tan ki
Sooraj chaand sitaare jab tak
shobha neel gagan ki
phoolo phalo khush raho sad tum
yahi dua mere man ki

As I hear it,

jis path se tu aaye jaaye,
‘binengee kaantey palkein’

Thanks for the correct words.
