Anniversary dates
Here is another much felt addition to the blog. The dates of important Hindi movie related anniversaries.
This list is neither exhaustive nor perhaps quite accurate as of now because much disinformation is in circulation even in some well known sites on these matters.
I am very thankful to our own inhouse encyclopaedia Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh for sending me the list of anniversaries every month. In addition, our regulars like Prakashchandra and Khyati Bhatt have filled in with many other anniversaries. I thank all of them.
I request our readers to help provide with other dates that have not yet been included. While doing that, I request that the relevant year should also be mentioned if known. And source of information (if known) should also be mentioned so that we can build up an accurate and exhaustive list of anniversaries.

Atul ji,
I too did not know the existance of this very useful column of Anniversary Dates.Its only when I saw Raja ji’s comments on the Home page,I came to know this.
This is yet another FIRST of this Blog.I visit 50 odd blogs on the Internet,but I have not found this initiative on any one,so far.
Well Done indeed.
I also find that with my lists,you get some names which are missing from the existing list here.

Whether this Asit sent is comedian actor or the legendary director Asit sen ?????
As per wiki Comedian actor was died in 1993, they have not mentioned the date or anything.
Further as per wiki Director Asit sen was born in 1922(no mention of any additional information)and died on August 25 2001

Wow! Maan gaye aap ko Atulji! Koi bhi kasar baaki nahin hai ab is blog ko “A……..Z” banane mein. Congratulations and thanks for making it so simple and available to all music lovers. Ek baat jo sach hai wo zarur batani hai. When I read so many “Anniversary Dates” in the recent comments, I was so excited ye soch ke ki ye hamare sab contributors ki b’days hogi 
. Lekin jab sachhayi dekhi to dookh hua. Lekin baad mein socha ki agar contributors ki b’days likhhi hoti, to us din koi bhi gaana post nahin kar sakte the.

Thanks for the excel sheet. My computer automatically converted the dates to Indian style so there is no problem. Considering the big size excel sheet of songs that I deal with, your excel sheet is hardly any work for me.

A much needed add-on. When I used to see songs appear on this blog as a tribute on someone’s birth or death anniversary, it was on the day itself, therefore, too late to submit any commemorative song. Now we can plan ahead and make submissions accordingly. Great work.

All these sources have copied from each other. Listener’s Bulletin no.24 dated December 1975 mentions the date as 10 october.’Dhunon ki Yatra”, a well known and reputed book on music directors (written by Pankaj Raag) also mentions the date as 10 october. Most likely one of these online sites erred in copying the date and that error has been faithfully reproduced by other sites too.
The sources mentioned above are what Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh ji has personally verified.

You are right when you say that there is a lot of confusion about the DOB of Tun Tun.
My information (24-12-1926) is based on the book ‘swaron ki yatra’ by Anil ji Bhargava.
If you read her interview published just 2-3 days prior to her death,as given on http://www.beetehuedin.blogspot.com,she has confessed that she does not remember about her birth or details of that time.However as she has described the events in her life, her marriage in 1947 and the Dard song of 1947 etc,the date of 1926 looks more appropriate.
CINEPLOT has also published an article about her and it has some intriguing dates-it says ‘ she was 13 year old in 1946′,which to me seems unlikely,as it does not match dates given by herself in her own last interview.
At the time of her Dard song she could be either 21 or 24 as per
1926 or 1923.
we will have to dig out more reliable info in this case.

I do agree that Shamshad Begum was a great singer,but she was NOT ” one of the First pb singers in HFindustry.
PB started in 1935 in Hindi films and S.Begum first sang in Khajanchi in 1941. In the interim period of 1935 to 1941, many many singers gave PB in Hindi Films.

Yes, I agree. Probably the news report from where this quote was taken meant to say, she was one of the first “successful” playback singers and one who had a long inning. Many people who did singing between 1935-1941 werent around for too long, so most folks reporting the news these days wont even know many of them, apart from the likes of K L Saigal, etc. And thats the interesting part. Only a few remain immortal for generations and centuries, while rest fed away from public memory.

Reminds of one funny incidence from very recent memory that shows how little preparation goes into reporting news these days. There is this athlete (cant remember name) who wins like 2 gold medals in long distance races at the recent London Olympics. 3 months after that, he goes to New Orleans to participate in some half marathon race and ends up winning. Local TV anchor is doing his live interview and she asks him – have u ever run a race before or is this your first race?

Some major dates seem to be missing:
1. OP Nayyar’s both anniversaries
2. Naushad’s both anniversaries
3. Anil Biswas’s death anniversary
I am not giving these dates, because I am sure you have more authentic information, and these must be inadvertent omissions.
Some more points:
4. Sohrab Modi’s death 28 Jan 1897 seem to be a typo.
5. Amirbai Karnataki’s death anniversary mentioned twice: March 3; March 7 1965
6. SN Tripathi’s death anniversary mentioned twice – 28 March; 12 May 1987
7. SD Burman’s DOB, whether Oct 1 or 10, you may like to check up again. Wikipedia and SD Burman’s ‘official’ site http://www.sdburman.com/index.html) mention October 1. The latter site also gives this info in bold:
