Blog Day :

4939 Post No. : 16790

There are some events in the blog that need human intervention. These are events viz century of posts, artists etc. Then there are events that happen without any conscious efforts on our part.

One such event took place just now today (25 January 2022). The blog just clocked 15 million visitors at around 16:15 IST on 25 January 2022. I was aware of this event approaching. I was not the only one. Some other keeneyed regulars had also noticed it. One of them (Mahesh Mamadapur) had guessed that the 15th million visitor would get clocked to coincide with 26 january, the republic day of India. But the visitors were in a hurry. They clocked this figure one day in advance! 🙂

Here is a summary of all the million visitors that have taken place in the blog so far :-

Visitor number Date achieved Blog day number Days taken for the million hits Remarks
1 million 25 October 2010 829 829 Slowest one million @ 1206 visitors per day
2 millions 7 November 2011 1207 378 @2645 visitors per day
3 millions 7 April 2012 1359 152 Fastest one million @ 6579 visitors per day
4 millions 10 December 2012 1606 247 @ 4049 visitors per day
5 millions 29 October 2013 1929 323 @3096 visitors per day
6 millions 12 October 2014 2277 348 @2873 visitors per day
7 millions 4 July 2015 2542 265 @ 3773 visitors per day
8 millions 20 April 2016 2833 291 @ 3436 visitors per day
9 millions 24 February 2017 3143 310 @ 3226 visitors per day
10 millions 14 January 2018 3467 324 @ 3086 visitors per day
11 millions 22 November 2018 3779 312 @ 3205 visitors per day
12 millions 4 July 2019 4003 224 @ 4464 visitors per day
13 millions 8 February 2020 4222 219 @ 4566 visitors per day
14 millions 29 November 2020 4517 295 @ 3390 visitors per day
15 millions 25 January 2022 4939 422 @ 2370 visitors per day

Overall rate of visitors till now is 3037 visitors per day from the beginning of the blog 14 years ago. A fairly decent rate of visitors for a blog dealing with a non populist topic, namely old HFM.

This calls for a celebration. We in this blog know only one way to celebrate, viz by discussing a song. 🙂

So, here is a song from “Hangaama”(1971). This movie was produced by Babulal Chainrai and Mohan Chainrai and directed by S M Abbas for Chainson Films, Bombay. The movie , a comedy movie, had Vinod Khanna, Zeenat Aman, Mehmood, Helen, Kishore Kumar, Fariyaal, Johnny walker, Aruna Irani, Yunus Parvez, Mukri, Dhumal, Jr.Mehmood, Kumud Tripathi, Janki Dass, Tuntun, Joginder, Ram Avtaar, Rajni Gupta, Master Bhagwan, Bhola, Jerry, Jagdish Kanwal, Gopal, Ranvir Raj, etc. in it.

“Hangaama”(1971) had five songs in it. One song has been covered so far. Here is the second song from the movie. This song is sung by Manna Dey and Asha Bhonsle. Anjaan is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman.

Only the audio of the song is available. Those who have watched the movie state that the song was picturised on Vinod Khanna and Zeenat Aman. Vinod Khanna, then well known as a villain, was signed up reluctantly because the movie, full of comedians (Kishore Kumar, Mehmood, Johny Walker etc) needed someone who would pass for a hero and so would sing the customary romantic songs in the movie while the comedians would go about doing their clowning job. So Vinod Khanna inadvertently became a hero with this movie, that too opposite Zeenat Aman.

Blog Day :

4518 Post No. : 16075

Some regulars of the blog are more keen eyed than most people and they keep looking for important events taking place in the blog. One important event happened in the blog yesterday. I became aware of it mainly because some regulars pointed it out in our whatsapp group.

On this day in the afternoon, the blog silently registered its 14 millionth visitor. The blog began 12 years ago on 19 july 2008 and it took the blog 4517 days to reach this magic figure on 29 november 2020.

7 millions 4 July 2015 2542 265 @ 3773 visitors per day
8 millions 20 April 2016 2833 291 @ 3436 visitors per day
9 millions 24 February 2017 3143 310 @ 3226 visitors per day
10 millions 14 January 2018 3467 324 @ 3086 visitors per day
11 millions 22 November 2018 3779 312 @ 3205 visitors per day
12 millions 4 July 2019 4003 224 @ 4464 visitors per day
13 millions 8 February 2020 4222 219 @ 4566 visitors per day
14 millions 29 November 2020 4517 295 @ 3390 visitors per day

Overall rate of visitors till now is 3099 visitors per day.

The above table shows that the blog, despite dealing in a non populist topic in a non TRP seeking manner, still draws a regular stream of visitors. It certainly serves as a source of encouragement for us.

I remember that the blog used to have visitors in trickles (in double figures in a day) during its early days. It was on 16 august 2008 that the blog touched three figures in a day for the first time. It was on 23 january 2009 (189th day of the blog) when more than one thousand visitors visited the blog for the first time. 5 August 2009 saw more than 2000 visitors for the first time in a day. The blog has even seen over ten thousand visits in a day. Here are the details:-

Date Number of visitors Blog day Remarks
19 July 2008 4 1 Only four visitors on the first day. Only occasion of single digit visitors in a day
20 July 2008 12 2 First time the blog reached double figure of visitors on the second day of the blog
16 August 2008 253 29 First time the blog reached three figures of visitors in a day
23 January 2009 1145 189 First time the blog reached four figures of visitors in a day
29 August 2009 2071 407 First time the blog reached 2000 visitors in a day
15 July 2011 3060 1092 First time the blog reached 3000 visitors in a day
4 October 2011 4137 1173 First time the blog reached 4000 visitors in a day
7 October 2011 5379 1176 First time the blog reached 5000 visitors in a day
9 October 2011 6082 1178 First time the blog reached 6000 visitors in a day
10 October 2011 7561 1179 First time the blog reached 7000 visitors in a day
12 October 2011 9824 1181 First time the blog reached 8000 visitors in a day
12 October 2011 9824 1181 First time the blog reached 9000 visitors in a day
19 October 2011 10630 1188 First and only time the blog reached 10000 visitors in a day

It took the blog more than 1000 days before it could get 3000 plus visitors in a day. But then all of a sudden, the blog touched heights of 4000 plus, 5000 plus, 6000 plus, 7000 plus, 8000 plus , 9000 plus and 10000 plus visits in a day in the month of October 2011, all within 15 days !

All these figures are interesting figures and they have been achieved without making any conscious attempts. In fact, we are not even aware how and why these visitors find us. All we know from wordpress stats is that the blog gets hits from all around the globe. Indiais the major country where this blog gets viewed the most and USA comes second. Other major countries from where this blog gets viewed are UK, Pakistan, Malaysia, Canada, UAE, Mauritius, Australia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, South Africa etc.

All we can conclude from the above is that Hindi movie music, especially those created decades ago, enjoy good following all around the world among music lovers of Indian origin and sometimes even among non Indian origin persons. People who are looking for difficult to find songs are likely to find their way into the blog. Some of them, after stumbling upon the blog may decide to bookmark the blog for further reference.

It gives us encouragement to find that we are visited even by people who are themselves associated with HFM and they sometimes post messages in the blog or contact us as well.

The figures about visitors to the blog are in a way a reflection on the fact that the work being done in the blog for old HF songs is being noticed and appreciated. And this is just the reward that we, like most normal human beings seek. Such appreciation is just the tonic that keeps us motivated and make us do this work regularly without taking any breaks.

On this occasion, here is a song from “Ek Shrimaan Ek Shrimati”(1969). This song is sung by Rafi and Lata. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Kalyanji Anandji.

Only the audio of the song is available as of now. This movie was produced by Surinder Kapoor and directed by Bhappi Sanie for Amar Chhaya Productions. The movie had Shashi Kapoor, Babita, Kamini Kaushal, Om Prakash, Helen, Rajendra Nath, Laxmi Chhaya, Mumtaz Begum, Mohan Choti, Dhumal, Hari Shivdasani, Sudhir, Sulochana Latkar, Sujata, Snehlata, Jagadish Kamal, Maqbool, Devi Chand, Baba Benjamin, Shobha, Madan Kenny etc in it. So, my guess is that thd song was picturised on Shashi Kapoor and Babita. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of the song.

Blog Day : 3781 Post No. : 14761

I in this blog often talk about “natural” landmarks and “artificial” landmarks for the blog. “Natutral” landmaks for the blog are those that are intuitive, viz. century of songs in the blog, and later century of songs in the blog for an artist, a contributor etc.

Later, when we began to keep track of blog related statistics, we became aware when a duo of singers completed their century of duet songs, or the blog itself completed a century (or its multiple) of days.

Many of these “artificial” (more accurately “derived” or “secondary”) landmarks went unnoticed in the early days of the blog. For instance, we completed several hundred days and also thousand days in the blog but we remain blissfully unaware. In fact, the level of blissful unawareness was such that we did not even notice it when the blog completed one year of its existence on 19 july 2009. 🙂

We have come a long way since.

While many of these landmark events have to be created by effort, there are some landmarks that happen on their own. Time related landmarks, viz hundreds of days or thousands of days get achieved with time.

Likewise, number of visitors in the blog also happen with time, though that is dependent on factors like ability of the blog to attract visitors.

This blog had a humble beginning on 19 july 2008. During its early days, it attracted less than 100 visitors daily. There were only 406 visitors for the blog during july 2008, the month when this blog started.

I regarded it as a “landmark” occasion when the blog clocked more than one hundred visits for the first time. It was on 16 august 2008, the day of Rakhi festival, when I covered the iconic Rakhi song Bhaiyya mere raakhi ke bandhan ko nibhaana .

The blog averaged 31 visitors a day in july 2008 and 72 visitors a day in august 2008 before breaking into the three figure region with 276 visitors per day during september 2008. 23 january 2009 was the first day when this blog received more than one thousand visitors in a day. 1145 visitors arrived on the blog on that day. The blog reached four figure a day mark for the first time during february 2009 with 1069 visitors daily. It was in june 2011 that the 2000 mark was breached for the first time. An average of 2226 visitors visited daily during this month. It took only two more months to reach the 3000 visitors a day mark. August 2011 saw 3109 visitors daily in the blog. The next peak arrived in october 2011. It was not 4000 mark or 5000 mark or even 6000 mark, rather an average of 7224 visiors per day that was achieved in this month ! On one particular day, viz 19 october 2011, as many as 10630 visitors arrived at the site !

It was too good to last though. By now we have settled at an average of over 3000 visitors daily.

In the process, the blog recorded its first one million visits on 25 october 2010, after 829 days. The subsequent million visits have come rather more quickly, as can be expected. The third millionth mark was reached the fastest- in just 152 days. Now a days, it is taking around 300 odd days (nearly ten months ) to reach one million visitos mark.

The blog clocked 10 million visits on 14 january 2018 at around 22:30 IST. The 11th million visitor was clocked on 22 november 2018 at around the same time.

Here is the summary of the eleven million visitors in the blog so far:-

Number of Visitors Date when achieved Blog day days taken for the million visits
1 million 25-Oct-10 829 days 829
2 millions 07-Nov-11 1207 days 378
3 millions 30-Apr-12 1359 days 152
4 millions 10-Dec-12 1606 days 247
5 millions 29-Oct-13 1929 days 323
6 millions 12-Oct-14 2277 days 348
7 millions 04-Jul-15 2542 days 265
8 millions 20-Apr-16 2833 days 291
9 millions 24-Feb-17 3144 days 311
10 millions 14-Jan-18 3466 days 332
11 millions 22-Nov-18 3779 days 313

I was wondering what song to discuss on the occasion. Finally I zeroed in on a joyous song from “Kaala Pathhar”(1979). This song is sung by Rafi, Lata, S K Mahan, Mahendra Kapoor and chorus. Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Rajesh Roshan.

The picturisation shows almost the entire star cast (this was a multi starrer movie !) – viz Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, Neetu Singh, Parveen Babi etc.

The video version of this song from “Kaala Patthar”(1979) is nearly six minutes long. But the audio version is even longer (nearly eight minutes long). I have provided both version of the some here.

I take this opportunity to thank one and all for their continued support and encouragement. It goes without saying that it was the support and encouragement of music lovers that helped the blog achieve this impressive number of visits from music lovers. Here is hoping that this musical bandwagon will continue on its merry ways with many more landmarks to achieve enroute.
