Ten years back on this date viz on 8th October 2012, eight songs from eight different movies were covered on the blog. Here are the details:-

It can be observed that four movies (out of eight movies) whose songs were covered on this date ten years ago (on 8 october 2012) have since been YIPPEED. That leaves us with four movies that are still eligible for Blog Ten Year Challenge today (8 october 2022).
‘Maha Pooja’ (1954) is one such movie.
‘Maha Pooja’ was directed by Shanti Kumar for Amar Jyot Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Naina, Ratnamala, Amirbai Karnataki, Shashi Kapoor(not the famous one), Anant Marathe, Prem Prakash, Bikram Kapoor, Kusum Thakur, Sabita Chatterjee, Parvati devi, Naaz, Suryakant Shukla, Omprakash Gaud, Bholaram Kesri, Ramesh Arora, Ashok Azaad, Arvind ,C.Pandey, Lakshman, Navneet, Dubey, Athavaley, Seetharam Jainaa,Rati, Shri bhagwan, Anil Kumar etc in it. Prem Adib and Murad made guest appearances.
‘Maha Pooja’ had nine songs in it. Five songs have been covered so far. Here is the sixth song from this film. It is sung by Talat Mehmood. Ramesh Gupta is the lyricist. Music is composed by Avinash Vyas.
Only audio of the song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of the song.

Hullo Atuldom
Navratri. Nine nights of festivities. Celebrated through the country in honour of Devi Maa, Maa Durga, or the Holy Trinity of Durga Lakshmi Saraswati. Also Rama’s victory over Ravana and rescuing Devi Seeta from Lanka. No wonder the 10th day of the festival is called Vijaya Dashami.
I have got a Whatsapp forward which gives a perspective of the day as ” Dussehra is a Sanskrit word which means removal of Ten Bad Qualities within oneself, namely
Ahankara (Ego),
Amanavta (Cruelty),
Anyaaya (Injustice),
Kama vasana (Lust),
Krodha (Anger),
Lobha (Greed),
Mada (Pride),
Matsara (Jealousy can also mean competition which is a result of jealousy),
Moha (attachment),
Swartha (Selfishness)”;
which means that ‘Vijaya over these Ten Bad Qualities. (I thought that this was a great thought and hence shared it here)
Dussehra marks the culmination of the Ram Leela, at various venues across the country, with the burning of the effigies of Meghnad (son of Ravana), Kumbhakarna (brother of Ravana) and Ravana himself. Dussehra is also the last day of the Durga Puja for the people from Eastern India (wherever in the world they be). The Durga Puja begins on the sixth day of Navartri, when the idols of the goddess is installed along with those of her children Ganesh and Kartik and Devi Laxmi and Devi Saraswati. Dussehra is the day when the idols are immersed in the holy waters of the rivers after morning puja, kumkum khela etc. Festivities in western India too come to a close with all the rituals associated. So we are at the end of one festival waiting for the next -Deepavali.
Let us bring this festival to a close with this all important aarthi which is from “Purab Aur Paschim” (yes, there are some songs from this film yet to be posted). In the film this traditional aarthi plays at the start to set the story of the movie in motion. It shows Ashok Kumar (whose birth anniversary it was two days ago) leading a group of devotees which includes Kamini Kaushal and Nirupa Roy (13th October was her death anniversary). As the song plays, we see the Union Jack being lowered and replaced by the Indian Tricolour. The movie too becomes ‘color’ from ‘black-n-white’. The aarthi is also used to introduce almost all the characters of the movie, we see ‘Bharat’ growing up from Master Alankar to Manoj Kumar and Bharathi (south Indian actress) growing into ‘Gopi’. The movie closes with the aarthi as Saira Banu accepts that she has liked the Indian way of life and her mother Shammi and brother Rajendranath also join the aarthi.
The aarthi is in the voices of Mahendra Kapoor, Brij Bhushan and Shyama Chittar. The music director for the movie were Kalyanji Anandji, who have stuck to the traditional format in here.

“Lajwanti”(1942), alias “Radio Singer” was directed y Hiralal R Doctor for Shree Ganesh Pictures, Bombay. This “social” movie had Ratanbai, Anuradha, Wazir Mohammad Khan, Ashiq Hussain, Fakir Mohammad, Ratan Modi etc in it.
The movie had ten songs in it. Singers and lyricists of these songs are not known.
Here is the first song from “Lajwanti”(1942) to appear in the blog. This song is a bhajan which is sung by an unknown female voice which sounds somewhat familiar. Lyricist is not known. Music is composed by Shyam Babu, who I assume is same as Shyam Babu Pathak.
I have an intuition that this female voice may be that of Ratanbai, the leading actor of this movie who was an actor singer. This blog has seven songs sung by her. On comparing the voice of this song with that of the seven Ratan Bai songs, I feel that the voice is same. So I have assumed this song to be sung by Ratan Bai.
I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movie as well as on the identity of this voice.
With this rare song, “Lajwanti”(1942) makes its debut in the blog.

“Bhakt Prahlad”(1967), originally made in Tamil and other south Indian languages was dubbed in Hindi as well.
The movie was directed by Narayanmurthy for Veerappan and company, Madras. It had S V Ranga Rao, Anjalidevi, Rajendranath, Dhumal, L Vijaylaxmi, Geetanjali, Nirmala etc in it.
The Hindi dubbed version had as many as 17 songs in it which were penned by P L Santoshi.
Here is the first song from “Bhakt Prahlad”(1967) to appear in the blog. HFGK is silent about the singers of the song, but the voice sounds like Usha Mangeshkar to me. The song is picurised on the child artist who plays the title role of Prahlad.
Music ws composed by Rajeshwar Rao and Rajgopal Krishnan but the distribution of songs between them is not known. So I have decided to credit them jointly for music direction.
I request our knowledgeable readers to help identfy the singer as well as the actor in the picturisation.
With this song, “Bhakt Prahlad”(1967) makes its debut in the blog.

This is an excellent Bhajan sung by the Music Director Hemant Kumar himself. When you her him sing/recite a bhajan, one feels as if his voice is made only for singing Bhajans.

The bhajan is sung by Amirbai Karnataki and Tara Harish-both in their last phase of the career. This is a Bhajan-almost an Aarati, but not exactly-in praise of Shri Satyanarayan Swami.

I grew up in a joint family of about 20 people including children. My childhood memories are vivid and I remember playing with cousins and enjoying Festivals with the elders. By coincidence ,by 1947-48 our joint family was fragmented, not because of the Partition, but because One Uncle joined Army, the other joined Navy and the third one joined Police. My own father had to go underground to evade arrest, after Gandhi ji’s assassination..He was an RSS worker. We shifted coolly to Banaras and stayed there for an year. Ultimately father was traced and arrested and we were escorted by the police to mother’s town in Maharashtra.
