“Today’s article is inspired from a real-life story and is based on real life experiences happening in our day to day life”
Any ‘resemblance’ of the story/character mentioned in the article is much expected (and is not a mere ‘coincidence’) with ‘everyman’/ ‘everywoman’s life especially who have been ‘immersed’ in love sometime in their life, and/or could not turned into a lifetime relationship.
Some of them could be ‘Hindi movie buffs’ and lovers of HFM (especially the songs of love –and songs of milan and judaai etc etc.) for which the author should not be held responsible or criticized or punished in ‘any’ form 🙂
So, the ‘claimer’ above would have given some hint about the article here today. Aaj ham dil ki baatein karenge or it will be more accurate to say ki aaj ham ‘toote’ huye dil ki baatein karenge 🙂
So, here we begin this story …
I have one of my childhood friends who is closed to me, and we two have many things in common. His life also has the similar ‘struggle’ and many similar incidents happened in my life. We were classmates from KG to 12th standard and both of us had to take to job early in our life leaving the formal education after 12th standard.
Well, whenever we are together we often discuss many things and refresh our childhood memories- memories related with cricket, of watching films, and memories of film songs of course!
During all such meetings and the discussions therein there would always be the discussion about the ‘crush’ this guy had in school days. If our meeting happens on weekends and accompanied by ‘drinks’ sometimes it would end with listening various songs from the seventies to pre-eighties and even singing and dancing with on the tunes.
Here we begin the story of this guy (my friend, hereinafter refer to as ‘hero’ of our story today).
This is sometime during 1977-1978.
So it happened that a new girl joined us in when we were learning in standard seventh when first semester had been over. Her father was a class two officer. Our parents were from class four employees.
Over the period this guy developed a liking for this girl and with supportive talks among friends group he fall in love – yes one sided only. In those times it would take time to open your heart so easily.
All of us were a staying in a small colony for the electricity board employees. So it would so happen on ‘Dushehra’ or other festivals and special occasions that all us would visit to all families in the colony and greet them. Our parents would also accompany us on such occasions. On all such occasions this boy and girl would meet and our hero would take all such meetings a chance to become friendlier with this girl.
Slowly this talk spread in the class and in the colony about this guy and this girl. Still everything was not as open and since all of us were still considered as ‘children’ nobody was as serious in this matter as this guy was. He started following this girl and dreaming about her. And then he also fall in love with all the golden oldies from Hindi movies ‘sau saal pehle mujhe tumse pyaar thaa’, ‘ehsaan tera hoga mujhpar’, ‘phool tumhe bheja hai khat mein’, ‘suhaani raat dhhal chuki’ etc etc.
As days passed , this guy had seriously fallen in love with this girl, with the girl totally unaware about this. When ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’ came this guy easily related his character with the young Mayur (the young Sikandar) in the movie and this ‘girl’ was his ‘memsaab’ since she comes from a upper class family.
More than two years passed easily with our hero shining in the class as ‘monitor’, his friends making stories of him and this ‘girl’, our hero ‘burning’ himself in the ‘pyaar ki aag’ sometimes, or taking overdose of playing cricket etc etc. All the legendary stories of ‘Laila Majnu’ type going through his mind.
Finally the day arrived when the news came that the girl’s father was transferred to Koradi Thermal Power Station, near Nagpur.
Now that year was – ‘1982’- when we landed in on an important milestone of our life – standard tenth. We had to appear for board exams and that was an important year for anybody’s life and career.
This guy told his mother (in those days you cannot share something like this to your father. It was ‘highly hazardous ’and could have invited ‘beating blue and black 🙂 ) that he wants to go to Koradi to meet this girl. His mother was a working woman and she tried to make him understand this was not the right time for him for these things and he should focus on studies first and then think about this later after some years. For the time being the matter was put in the ‘cold storage’, but our hero silently suffered missing the heroine.
Years passed and our hero’s parents were also transferred to other location of the state electricity board’s unit in Marathwada region. So now the ‘geographical gap’ become wider than earlier which was from Akola to Nagpur.
After fairing good at the standard tenth exams our hero somehow could not fair good in his 11th and 12th standard studies’ as the subjects were not of his likings (same like me 🙂 ). And he focused more on cricket and watching Hindi movies especially of Rajesh Khanna.
So after 12th he took some job temporarily, thinking that he would return to studies later. But it did not happen and he continued his work life further forever.
In the meanwhile he was always missing this girl and once he gets chance to visit Nagpur for some official work. He visited his Uncle at Koradi and in the same colony he also met some of his childhood friends who were his classmates earlier. With the help of a friend he finds out what this girl was doing. She was pursuing medical studies (MBBS) at Nagpur (Mayo College (then) in Nagpur). So our hero with this friend visits the girl in the Hospital, but fortunately or unfortunately she didn’t recognize him and our hero’s friend was more in shock than our hero was ( ). He come back from Nagpur and shares the story to his bosses where he was working. His boss advised him to forget all and focus on career as he should be supporting his parents and brothers who came from a middle class family and since he was also the elder among the children he should be taking more responsibility (? ).
Well, our hero decided that before leaves this ‘story’ why not to vent out his feeling to the girl so that he would not have any regrets in life further. Because this girl had become a regular feature in his dreams and that would stir his heart only to increase his craving for her. (tujhko pukaare mera pyaar … aaja main to mitaa hoon teri chaah mein…)
So he thought that may be after venting out his feelings will give him relief and may help him to forget her if she did not have the same love for him too.
So, he wrote all his thoughts on paper (which was a ten page letter written on both sides of a long ‘ruled paper’ ) and posted her.
***
‘teri zulfon se judaayi to nahin maangi thhi ee ee ee….’
The heroine didn’t respond to our hero’s letter…
All sad and melancholic songs become his companion and he continued his journey for the future.…
He had to leave the home state or his job postings and years passed.
Our hero finally got married in ‘1994’ to a girl suggested by his parents. And the couple started their family life happily and had two daughters. Though our hero didn’t keep anything hidden and had told his wife about the happenings in his life.
No communication or contact happened with the heroine thereafter.
***
Our hero struggled hard. Completed his formal education via distance courses and also keep growing at professional front too.
Years passed … our hero still having the ‘bachpan ki muhabbat ko’ feeling in a corner of his heart…
In between whenever he had to visit Nagpur he used to look for his childhood friends and their whereabouts.
Internet and mobile connectivity had made inroads into Indian society … TV take a new ‘avtaar’ from ‘Doordarshan’ to ‘cable tv’ etc etc…
Advent of Internet and social media become platform for people to look for information about their lost contacts …
The ‘hero’ also took advantage of this and keep searching for the girl on internet. Sometimes getting results her name in the list of pass-out students from the university she was studying at Nagpur …
But still he was not aware where she was …
It so happened that after spending over twenty years outside the state he got an opportunity to stay in Nagpur for his job 🙂
He resumed the search … after all it is not easy to ‘forget your first love’ in life …
He got her address in Nagpur and thought to meet her, but returned back from mid-way that it was not morally right to do this after so many years … but just once … he wanted to meet her and see her … (bas ek baar nazar bhar ke usey dekh loon)
***
But destiny has some other thoughts. This guy had to leave Nagpur after two years and move elsewhere outside the state.
Years passed …. Our hero had a job-stint abroad and returned back after three years … Covid2019 happened… this fellow lost his new job in India and lost in depression with diagnosis of OCD. Medication started … he got a new job after few months and everything was again going normal … but somehow his heart still craving for the childhood days, and whereabouts of the girl…
Now the latest searches were not showing any result he earlier had though they still mentioned the same address of the heroine..
(roke zamaana chaahe roke khudaayi tumko aana padega) …:)
Hero was experimenting with his searches so once it so happened that he looked for the heroine’s father’s contact on ‘mukh-pustak’ and he got him there !!!
The heroine’s father had contacts of Heroine and her two sisters. And slowly our hero opened the contact page of the Heroine and with goose bumps get to see her latest photo after a gap of almost forty long years … the same beauty the same radiance …
Searching more information about her it was known that she now is renowned doctor in Nagpur city and had married a doctor. She too had two daughters (like our Hero has). And more importantly her phone number was also given there on the internet …
After getting her number he texted her about him and proposing an idea of ‘reunion’ of classmates. But no reply came. He tried to contact her but some technical glitch prevented the communication to happen. After few attempts the girl blocked his number without any communication happening. Request for adding friend is still pending …
Haunting dreams resumed again … the childhood place, school , meeting the girl , telling her about his love … Hero decided that now this time he will definitely meet her when he visits Nagpur…
But the big question was what to do with the dreams …
Why they come?
***
And it so happened that one day the younger daughter of our Hero find the name of this girl in search history of his phone …
I am now leaving it to your imagination what could have happened after that …
Papa you are stalking her? … (Our heroes daughters were also aware of his this story of childhood ‘crush’)
Somehow our Hero convinced his wife that there is nothing like that and he only want to see this girl who was studying with her just an excitement and nothing else…
Finally our Hero consulted our other common friend thinking that me too was a ‘highly sentimental’ like him, who told him to accept the reality and forget her ….
Boss I have tried my best … but when she comes in my dream I cannot tell you how my heart goes and the next many days I am lost in some different world altogether…
What say? Do you think our Hero will be able to get a chance to meet his ‘dreams girl’ at least once in this lifetime and get his wish fulfilled of seeing her after so many years …?
We do not know what is going to happen…
But for now we do have a song of the ‘dream girl’ from the world of cinema from those years …

‘PANCHAM-RAFI’ Jodi’s Variety Songs – 5
———————————————————
Welcome all to today’s post which is coming after a long gap of more than two years. In this series we discussed song by ‘Pancham-Rafi’ jodi. This series was basically inspired by an article on the blog ‘Pancham and Only Pancham’ – and the title of the article is ‘Tribute to Rafi Sahab on 28th Death Anniversary‘, published on Rafi Sb’s twenty-eighth ‘Remembrance Anniversary’ on 31.07.2008. This article lists out the ‘variety of songs by the genius -Pancham-Rafi’ jodi based on different ‘genres’ of music.
When I came across the above article I thought to share this list with readers on our blog too. So, when I started this series in ‘2015’ with this song – “Jaag Devta Naag Devta“ – nine out of the twenty songs listed in the article were already posted on the blog. After that, I shared three more songs viz. – “Raqqaasa Mera Naam, Ae Sahib Sabko Salaam“, “Maine Kab Chaaha Ke Dulha Banoonga” and “Maakhan Chor Nandkishore Manmohan Ghanshyam Re“. The remaining songs were shared by our team members from time to time, and all these twenty songs are on the blog now.
Readers can go through the list in the article mentioned above. As the songs in this list were already getting posted on the blog, I had in the post for the song “Maine Kab Chaaha Ke Dulha Banoonga” mentioned that I will include some more songs in this series, not on the basis of music-genres, but these ‘special songs’ are from the category of being ‘the only Rafi song in a movie where music was composed by RD Burman.
Today’s song is one such song and it is from the movie ‘Phir Wohi Raat’ (1980).
This film was directed by Danny Dengzongpa for Prithvi Pictures, Bombay. The star cast includes Rajesh Khanna, Kim (new discovery), Shashikala, AK Hangal, Suresh Oberoi, Lalita Pawar, Tamanna, Aruna Irani, Danny Dengzongpa, Om Shivpuri, Shobha Khote, Jagdeep, Mukri, Bhagwan, Mohan Choti, Birbal, Madhu Malhotra, Shashi Kiran, Manmauji, Prakash, Lalita Kumari, Brahm Bharadwaj, Ranjeet Sood, Jugnu, Chand Usmani, Moolchand, Gopal Saigal, Master Chirag and others.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 06.08.1980 with restricted viewing (Adults Only) certificate.
This movie had six songs, all written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and composed to music by RD Burman. Here is the list of the songs of this movie,

Today’s song, the only Rafi song, in this movie is lip-synced on screen by actor Jagdeep.
Today 29th March 2021 is eighty-second birth anniversary (born on 29.03.1939) of actor Jagdeep. He passed away last year on 08th July 2020. As a tribute to him we will listen and enjoy this entertaining song from this movie. The song is ‘joie-de-vivre’ where other than Jagdeep we can see Mohan Choti, Bhagwan, Mukri, Birbal, Gopal Saigal and others also performing with him.
Also wishing herewith is ‘Happy Holi’ to all. Though the song is not a ‘holi’ song but ‘holi’ celebrations can be enjoyed this year ‘in house’ only – with playing this song and ‘taking a jig’ on this vibrant Pancham composition.

There were five Mangeshkar siblings- four sisters and one brothers, viz, Meena, Lata, Asha (Bhonsle), Usha, and their brother Hridaynath. Out of the five, Lata and Asha were the two who have sung thousands of songs and they have gone on to become household names. Other three siblings have also sang songs in movies, but they are very few.
