“Baazigar”(1959) was produced by Ram Dayal and directed by Nanabhai Bhatt for Mukul Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Nirupa Roy, Jairaj, Tiwari, Romi, Nazi, Helen, Mridula, Rana, Samson, Rajan Kapoor, Jagdish Kamal, Poonam Kapoor, Bimla, Jeewankala, Rafiq, Hanuman, Balaram, Narayan, Shafi, Dhondhu, Bihari, Vitthal, Sundar, Shammi, Majnu, Tiger (the dog), Mushtaq (the horse) etc in it.
This movie had six songs in it.
Three songs from the movie has been discussed in the past.
Here is the third song from the movie to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Usha Mangeshkar and Suman Kalyanpur. Prem Dhawan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Chitragupta.
Only the audio of this song is available. It sounds like a roadside tamasha song picturised on two dancers perhaps on Helen and Jeewankala. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.
Song-Main to lut gayi duniyaawaalon zara sa ghoonghat khol ke(Baazigar)(1959) Singers-Usha Mangeshkar, Suman Kalyanpur, Lyrics-Prem Dhawan, MD-Chitragupta
Lyrics
main to lut gayi duniyawaalon
zara sa ghoonghat khol ke
maano ya na maano
dene waale dil dete hain beech bajariya bol ke
maano ya na maano
main to lut gayi duniyawaalon
zara sa ghoonghat khol ke
maano ya na maano
dene waale dil dete hain beech bajariya bol ke
maano ya na maano
laakh chhupaaya bhed magar ankhiyon ne diya bataaye
laakh chhupaaya bhed magar ankhiyon ne diya bataaye
chadhta chaand aur pyaar dilon ka chhupte nahin chhupaaye
kaisi gadi ye aankh ladi kuchh soch samajh na paayen
kar gaya koi dil ka sauda do aankhiyon mein tol ke
maano ya na maano
dene waale dil dete hain beech bajariya bol ke
maano ya na maano
naam gaya badnaam huyi main
taane de jag saara
naam gaya badnaam huyi main
taane de jag saara
galii pyaar ki sab aate hain jinko naam hai pyaara
lakh sambhala dil matwala bas na chala hamara
kuchh aise dekh tumne
dil de bethe bin mol ke
maano ya na maano
dene waale dil dete hain beech bajariya bol ke
maano ya na maano
main to lut gayi duniyawaalon
zara sa ghoonghat khol ke
maano ya na maano
aji dene waale dil dete hain beech bajariya bol ke
maano ya na maano

Aah, Shyama. . . the vivacious, bubbly, chirpy, charming Shyama. That is the image that the mind always carries, of this spirited young lady, so full of life on the screen. Some memories and some reflections are so firmly engraved in the mind that it simply does not register or acknowledge the passage of time and the passing of eras. That is the beauty of these memories – that their beauty simply never fades away.
