We observe that two movies (out of eight) whose songs were covered in the blog on this date ten years ago (on 12 April 2023) have since been YIPPEED in the blog. That leaves us with six unYIPPEED movies that are eligible for Blog Ten Year Challenge today (12 April 2023).
“Duniya Ek Saraai”(1947) is one of the BTYC eligible movies today.
“Duniya Ek Saraai”(1947) was directed by Kidar Sharma for Ranjit Movietone, Bombay. The movie had Jagirdar, Begum Para, Altaf, Rajendra, Meena Kumari, Shanta Kumari, Nazirabai, Kesarbai, Pt.Iqbal, Kumar Junior etc in it.
The movie had 9 songs in it. Four songs have been covered so far.
Here is the fifth song from the movie to appear in the blog. The female voice belongs of Punjabi school of singing (unlike Lata Mangeshkar school of singing that became prevalent in later years). The uploader describes it as Zohrabai Ambalewali’s voice. But one comment described it as Shamshad Begam voice. I am going with Shamshad Begam because that is what Prakashchandra, who sent the lyrics of this song, also mentions. A better quality audio, if avaiulable should be able to help identify the voice with more certainty.
Kidar Sharma is the lyricist. Music is composed by Hansraj Bahl.
Only audio of the song is available. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of the song.
