So far as I remember this movie didn’t perform well at the box office then and even forgotten also. But this movie had some good songs, or in fact, all songs in this movie are good songs to listen. Music was composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

Though I had not watched this movie then in 1989-90. I am not sure if it was released at all in theatres. I do not remember correctly now. I watched some part of it online in 2018. However, one song from this movie “Yoon Lagne Lagi Aajkal Zindagaani” was in my memory since long. And later one of my friends who also liked this song refreshed its memory. So, when I came into the contact with this blog, I shared this song and later represented it with a post here. Subsequently I listened to all the songs in this movie and liked them very much as they have a nice poetry content in them. I have all of them ready and noted with men since long. Another song from this movie “Aaj Main Bechain Hoon” was posted on the blog on 09.01.2022.

As mentioned above lyrics for as many as six songs in this movie were written by Santosh Anand. Today 5th March, 2022 is the birth anniversary of Santosh Anand (born on 5th March, 1940, some sources have mentioned the year of his birth wrongly as 1929 or 1939?).

Santosh Anand has written some of the memorable songs in Hindi Films. And he went on to receive appreciation as well as awards. However, in personal life destiny has not been so kind with him as he lost his son and daughter in law, and later due to bad economic condition he has to suffer a lot. Old age ailments and his deteriorating health condition have made his life difficult further. And that is how it happens with many around us, but life goes on …

Today I present the third song from this movie, which is sung by Lata Mangeshkar and on screen Rakhee is lip-syncing and performing his song. We can also see Manoj Kumar, Hema Malini, Prem Chopra, and others in the picturization of this song. From the picturization of the song we can guess that Manoj Kumar and Rakhee are working at a construction site. The picturization is typical for a Manoj Kumar movie where the characters are going through lot of emotions.

When I had first shared this song to Atul ji, I had mentioned the following

THIS IS FOR THE RAKHEE fans, because I think even, they have forgotten this movie or the movie itself is a forgotten movie,

(Because on AVA ji’s post on Rakhi’s birthday – “Jab Tum Ho Mere Humsafar Khoobsurat” none of the commentors mentioned about this movie)

The song is a typical ‘Manoj Kumar’ type movie song. After ‘ROTI KAPADA Aur MAKAAN’ he tried to recreate that magic in every movie but failed. (and still luckily got ‘TWO’ women loving him in every movie),

Let us now listen to the song which is composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal and the tune is a catchy one and the music is quite enjoyable and so are the lyrics by Santosh Anand.

Hullo Atuldom

April 7th, 2020. Day 14 of the holidays that whole of India is experiencing. I don’t know about others but I am having my husband’s company, reading every single WhatsApp message and their accompanying videos and seeing many movies- some of which for the “nth” time; language no-bar.

Seeing repeats of movies has its advantage. We see things that make up the background, notice the expressions of chorus dancers, look at the supports that the actors have when they do activities that they aren’t comfortable with. For example, I was seeing Amitabh starrer “Yaarana” a few days back. There is a scene where Amitabh and Amjad Khan are shown to be indulging in Hang-gliding. Now I have been seeing this movie since 1979 and have lost count of the number of times I have seen it. This time I saw that in the hang-gliding scene there is some kind of metal support that is inserted into the outfits of the actors. Now I would like to know that is that kind of safety measure available for all aficionados of hang-gliding or that was something special for the shoot.

Another habit I have acquired of late is seeing movies in all the languages it is made in -Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam or Telugu. And there is no paucity of such movies. I had seen a 1979 Tamil movie “Nallathoru Kudumbam” (roughly translating to “Wonderful Family”) with Shivaji Ganesan and Vanisri in the lead. They played a couple whose married life is rocked by the wife suspecting her husband’s loyalty due to his colourful past. It was a remake of the 1977 Telugu film “Aalu Magalu” (Wife and Husband) which had Vanisri with Nageshwara Rao. When I saw the Tamil movie on Satellite TV a few years back I had mentally thought that the songs from its Hindi version should be here on the blog.

Here is the opportunity for “Judaai” (1980) to make its entrance into the blog. Jeetendra is turning a year older- 78 to be exact. He has had a long innings in the movies starting with playing the heroine Sandhya’s body double in Shantaram’s ‘Sehra’ in 1963.

To my knowledge he was last seen in Farha Khan’s ‘Om Shanti Om’ in 2007. He has had Mumtaz, Rajashree, Leena Chandavarkar, Hema Malini, Moushumi Chatterjee, Rekha, Reena Roy as his heroines in the late 60s and 70s. 80s saw him successfully pairing up with Sridevi and Jaya Prada. Along the way he has occasionally paired with Sharmila Tagore, Mala SInha, Zeenat Aman, Parveen Babi, Shabana Azmi, and Bindiya Goswami too.

Jeetendra and Rekha acted in 31 films and were romantically paired in 26 of which 15 were hits beginning with ‘EK Bechara” in 1972. “Judaai” was also a Rekha- Jeetendra movie. Sachin and Arun Govil played their sons with Shoma Anand and Tamanna playing the daughters-in-law.

Today’s is a party song where we have a middle-aged Dr. Shashikant (Jeetu) out-dancing Lily (Aruna Irani) after she has defeated the youngsters Sachin and Arun Govil. This was a guest appearance of Aruna Irani who was seen with Jeetu in ‘Farz’ and ‘Caravan’. The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar with Anand Bakshi as the writer and Laxmikant Pyarelal as the music directors. This song was inspired from either The Beatles, Boney M or ABBA

Missing Films of 1960s – 84
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Another very obscure and unfamiliar film; and another wonderful set of songs that probably have not seen the light of the day. The experience keeps reiterating itself.

The film is ‘Takht Aur Talwar’ from 1970. And the song – an exuberant challenge, rendered by Suman Kalyanpur.  The production company is titled as Kanchanganga Films, Bombay. And practically no other information available, as far as the producer, director and the star cast is concerned.

Five songs are listed for this film, with indication that there may be more. The music director is Avinash Vyas. Of the five songs listed, three are solo songs sung by Suman Kalyanpur and one is a solo by Asha Bhosle. The fifth song is a qawwaali in the voice of Krishna Kalle and Mahendra Kapoor. The qawwaali does not have a gramophone record no. listed, and so possibly it is still in the untraceable domain. The rest of the four songs are very much available. I present today, one of the solos by Suman Kalyanpur.

There are two songwriters listed for this film – Madan Bharti and Shamim Jaipuri, both having penned two songs each. This song is from the pen of Madan Bharti.

The four solo songs are very much available on the YT, however sometimes difficult to search and locate. I think there is an engineered deficiency in the search routines on YouTube. It has been my experience on multiple occasions, that even when you put in the exact matching words in the search box, the correct song is not returned. I have a feeling that YT’s search routines are designed to bring more of your patterns of earlier searches, and possibly paid upload items that crowd the top of the list. The song is very much existing in the system, but still that name simply does not come up in search results. Recently, another friend on the YT showed me a better way to reach such obscure songs. She suggested going to the hindigeetmala.net web site, and to call for the list of songs for the film. All songs of the film get listed. And if the song’s audio or video clip is available on the YT, then a special icon appears next to the song. We can then reach the YT address of that song, by clicking on this special icon. In recent past, I have resorted to this method. If the song is posted on YT, then going via the hindigeetmala.net is a much better method to locate the song.

And so, ‘Takht Aur Talwar’ from 1970, makes its debut on our blog today. Notching up the 84th episode, seems like we are well settled to score a century on this series. Coming up shortly – 🙂 . Meanwhile enjoy this solo by Suman Kalyanpur.

आsssss आssssss आsssss

आsssss आssssss आsssss

“Upaasna”(1971) was produced and directed by Mohan for Mohan Films Bombay. The “social” movie had Sanjay Khan, Mumtaz, Feroz Khan, Helen, Krishn Mehta, Anwar Hussain, Jagdeesh Raj, Murad, asit Sen, Brahm Bhardwaj, Tuntun, Indira Bansal, Polson, Baby Seema, Dayaal Kuar etc in it, with guest appearances by Sonia Sahni, Manmohan and Mukri.

The movie had six songs in it. Five of these songs have been covered in the blog. Here are the details of the songs that are already showcased in the blog.

I had mentioned in an earlier writeup that the movie had an eve teasing song in it that shows Sanjay Khan (assisted by his sidekick Mukri) teasing Mumtaz so harshly that I wondered why section 509 of IPC (“WORD, GESTURE OR ACT INTENDED TO INSULT THE MODESTY OF A WOMAN” )should not have been invoked against Sanjay Khan. Of course, Indian public prosecutors know only two sections of IPC, viz 420 and 302, so no eve teaser hero ever gets hauled up under section 509 of IPC. 🙂

Going through the songs of the movie, I see that Mumtaz pays Sanjay Khan back with compound interest by lip syncing her own songs that embarrass Sanjay Khan in not one but several songs in the movie. Here is the sixth and final song from “Upaasna”(1971) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Indeewar is the lyricist. Music is composed by Kalyanji Anandji.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

If we had an eve teasing song in the movie, then this song has the roles reversed. This song can be described as an Adam teasing song, with Mumtaz playing roadside Juliet with aplomb. 🙂 The picturisation as well as the lyrics shows Mumtaz coming down upon Sanjay Khan like a ton of unwanted bricks. 🙂

With this song, “Upaasna”(1971) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

Song-Tumhen apna na banaaya to mera naam nahin (Upaasna)(1971) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Indeewar, MD-Kalyanji Anandji

Lyrics

tumhen apna
na banaaya to mera naam nahin
tumhen apna na banaaya to mera naam nahin
pada hum jaise haseenon se tumhein kaam nahin een
pada hum jaise haseenon se tumhein kaam nahin
samjhe huzoor
tumhe apna na banaaya
to mera naam nahin

tumne auron ko sataaya to sataaya hoga
tumne auron ko sataaya to sataaya hoga
ye to bandi ke liye
ye to bandi ke liye
koi bada kaam nahin
samjhe
tumhein apna na banaaya
to mera naam nahin

nazar jo tum se mil gayi to akadte kyun ho
nazar jo tum se mil gayi to akadte kyun ho
paas thoda sa aa gaye to bigadte kyun ho
abhi to pyaar ka
abhi to pyaar ka
aaghaaz hai anjaam nahin
dekhte jaao
tumhen apna na banaaya to mera naam nahin

kaun kehta hai hum ada se tumko jeetenge
kaun kehta hai hum ada se tumko jeetenge
hai wafa waale
hum wafa se tumko jeetenge
baat ye khaas hai ae
baat ye khaas hai
apni baat ye aam nahin
maine kaha huzoor
tumhen apna na banaaya to mera naam nahin
pada hum jaise haseenon se tumhen kaam nahin ee
pada hum jaise haseenon se tumhen kam nahin
samjhe
tumhe apna na banaaya to mera naam nahin
