#the Decade of Sixties – 1961 – 1970 #
————————————————————————
# Remembering Mohan Choti #
——————————————-——————————

Today 1st February’2023 is the thirty-first ‘remembrance anniversary’ of yesteryears’ comedian actor, and producer-director Mohan Choti. He passed away on this day in 1992. His date of birth is not known and sources mentioned his year of birth as 1935 and some mentioned it as 1942.

Mohan Choti’s life story has been full of struggle, followed by successful in films in ‘comic-role’, but finally ending in pain and suffering.

He started his film career by doing small roles in movies like ‘Devdas-1955’, ‘Parivaar-1956’ and ‘Musaafir-1957’ where he was first noticed and got his famous name ‘Mohan Choti’.

He got famous and became popular with his role in the movie ‘Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi-1958’.

Later he played important roles in movies like ‘Dil Tera Deewaana-1962’, ‘Raakhi-1962’ etc. However by the end of sixties he ended up getting smaller comic roles only.

Later on he turned producer and director with the movie ‘Dhoti, Lota Aur Chaupaati-1975’ and ‘Hunterwaali-1977’ both of which didn’t fare well at the box office and he has to suffer financially from which he was never able to recover. He kept getting ‘comic roles’ in movies though and his last movie was ‘Muqaddar Ka Baadshaah-1990’.

He passed away on 01.02.1992. He was forgotten by the film industry people in his last days and was he was struggling on financial front.
(Brief about Mohan Choti is based on an article on him from Sanjit Narvekar’s book ‘Eena Meena Deeka: The Story of Hindi Film Comedy’, courtesy our Shri. Arunkumar Deshmukh ji.).

Today we pay our tributes to Mohan Choti on his ‘Remembrance Day’ by listening to and watching a song picturised on him from the ‘1969’ movie ‘Anjaan Hai Koi’.

“Anjaan Hai Koi-1969” was directed by Babubhai Mistry for ‘Anand Films’.

It had Feroz Khan, Nalini, Aruna Irani, Helen, Mohan Choti, Tiwari, Jayshree Talpade, Kundan, Uma Dutt, Noorjahaan, Suraj, Rakesh and others.

Today’s song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and Jaspal Singh. Mohan Choti and another actor (I am forgetting his name) are seen performing on this song.

Both Mohan Choti and his friend have lost money while in ‘sattaa or matkaa’. They have even spend their salary in ‘matkaa’ in greed of more money, but lost all. So they wish to make aware people ‘not to play matkaa and lose money’ on it.

Lyrics for the song are written by Sardar Bikaneri and music is composed by Usha Khanna.

Let us now listen to this song…

Lyrics

matkaa aa
haay re
haay re ae
matkaa aa

beta khel mat matkaa
beta khel mat matkaa
matke mein jo dil atka
to pad jaayega phatkaa
beta khel mat matkaa
ho o o o o o
beta khel mat matkaa

toone apni saari kamaayi
matke hi mein ganwaayi
o toone apni saari kamaayi
matke hi mein ganwaayi
arey ab to aaja
seedhe raste
sun le mere bhaai

ho jaayega mushkil jeenaa
pad jaayega aansoon peena aa
rote rote raat kategi
dil pe lagegaa jhatkaa
beta khel mat matkaa
ho o o o o o o
beta khel mat matkaa

bechke apna sabkuchh
ik din
ghar kar dega khaali
o bechke apna sabkuchh
ik din
ghar kar dega khaali
phir naa milega matkaa tujhko
aur naa lota thhaali

o yaad aayegi
us din naani
naa milega jis din paani
khul jaayengi aankhen teri
lagegaa aisaa jhatkaa
beta khel mat matkaa
ho o o o o o o
beta khel mat matkaa

aaloo ki tarkaari banengi
aur baingan ka bhartaa
haan hnn
aaloo ki tarkaari banengi
aur baingan ka bhartaa
tu bhi dekh le isko pyaare
ab kaahe ko dartaa

o ban jaayegi kismat teri
mit jaayegi ee hera pheri ee
bure kaam mein jo phansaa hai
aakhir mein wo latkaa
beta khel mat matkaa
ho o o o o o o
beta khel mat matkaa

satta race jackpot khelo
miley maut ki khaadi
o satta race jackpot khelo
miley maut ki khaadi
in dhhandhon se ulajh gayi hai
bade badon ki daadhhi

is baat ko dhyaan mein dhar le ae
kuchh achchhe kaam tu kar le
jhaad le apne dil ka maila
maar le ispe kaskaa
beta khel mat matkaa
ho o o o o o o
beta khel mat matkaa
matke mein jo dil atka
to pad jaayega phatkaa
beta khel mat matkaa
ho o o o o o o
beta khel mat matkaa

ho o o o o o o
beta khel mat matkaa
ho o o o o o o
beta khel mat matkaa
ho o o o o o o
beta khel mat matkaa
ho o o o o o o
beta khel mat matkaa
