Hullo Atuldom

As a student I have learnt, in geography, that India has three seasons:- summer, monsoon & winter. As students, summer meant vacations after the year-end examinations. This vacation used to be from mid-April to mid-June; meaning we were free for almost two months.

Reading Avinash ji’s nostalgic posts, set me also thinking about the activities that I indulged in during the summer vacations. Waking up decently early, going for bicycle rides (on rented bicycles) with friends for about half an hour. This was followed by a round of badminton, home by about 8 am for bath-breakfast etc. Oh, those were great times when one didn’t have to bother about homework, school timetable etc. By May end a new activity would be added – buying books for the next academic year. Many a times it would be from seniors who have passed & cleared and moved on to the next year. Covering the books with brown paper, writing out our names on the books etc. and waiting for the schools to reopen.

I am sure readers who are alumni of the Maharashtra education board would recall that schools usually reopened on 13th June (this date was always same & I have wondered the significance of the date). But one thing was certain the monsoon would have made its first appearance over Mumbai (Bombay as it used to be back then). That was one season that we loved, as heavy rains meant unexpected holidays, flooded roads, wading in ankle-deep waters etc. (Anyone who complains of flooded roads during rains, specially in Mumbai, should recall their childhood.) Personally I loved the rains.

Why am I going down memory lane now?

First – it is June.

Second – schools have just reopened.

Third – I can see the effects of rains (as seen on television news channels). Of course, what the region of Gujarat & Rajasthan is going through are not rains due to rainy season, but because of the cyclone Biparjoy.

Rains share a different chemistry with Indian films. We have as many as 88 songs on the blog under the ‘rain songs’ category. Let us add one more song to this list.

‘Taraana’ (1979) was a movie that was produced by Chanda Pictures, Bombay and presented by Tarachand Barjatya’s Rajshri Pictures. It had Mithun Chakravarthy & Ranjeeta Kaur in the lead with Jayshree T, Om Shivpuri, Dr. Shreeram Lagoo, Sharat Saxena, Urmila Bhatt, Bhagwan Dada etc. in supporting roles. The music director was Vijay Patil who was credited as Ram Laxman and songs were written by Ravindra Rawal & Tilakraj Thapar. Usha Mangeshkar, Shailendra Singh, Aarti Mukherjee, Varsha Bhosle, Chetan, Meena Patki were the playback singers used. There was a bidaai song in the voice of Jagjit Singh too.

‘Taraana’ had Ranjeeta playing a banjaran girl with Shreeram Lagoo as her father. (This I am guessing from the songs that I have seen before writing this post. I am yet to see the film). Mithun falls in love with her, sings a few songs expressing love, and sadness at being away from his love etc; before they can get married for the film to have a happy ending.

Today’s rain song has Mithun Chakravarthy & Ranjeeta frolicking in the ‘studio- created’ rain. The song is in the voices of Usha Mangeshkar and Shailendra Singh, and is written by Tilakraj Thapar (have never heard this name before.)

With this song we also wish Mithun Da today on his 73rd birthday.

Song – Hum Tum Dono Saath Mein Bheeg Jaayenge Barsaat Mein (Taraana) (1979) Singer – Usha Mangeshkar, Shailendra Singh,  Lyrics – Tilakraj Thapar, MD – Ram-Laxman
Usha Mangeshkar + Shailendra Singh

#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet #(Birthday of Actor – Arun Govil )
——————————————-——————————

Today 12th January’2023 is the sixty-fifth birthday of actor Arun Govil. (He was born on 12th January’1958).

Arun Govil made his debut in Hindi Films in 1977 in the movie ‘Paheli’. However the main hero in this movie was Satyajeet. After ‘Paheli-1977’, he quickly graduated to lead roles in Rajshree Production movies such as ‘Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin’, ‘Saawan Ko Aane Do’ and ‘Radha Aur Seeta’. All these three movies were released in the year ‘1979’. While ‘Raadha Aur Seeta’ didn’t fare well commercially, ‘Saawan Ko Aane Do’ was a highly successful movie of its time and ‘Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin’ was also a decently successful movie though not on the scale of ‘Saawan Ko Aane Do’.

Arun Govil shot to fame with the movie ‘Saawan Ko Aane Do’. While he continued to act in movies further he didn’t get that kind of success as ‘Saawan Ko Aane Do’. It was much later in 1987-1988 with the TV serial ‘Ramayan’ wherein he played ‘Lord Ram’ that he got the same success and fame. Earlier he had appeared in the TV serial ‘Vikram Aur Betaal’ as well.

In between he acted in many movies, mostly as second lead or in supporting roles.

Today on the occasion of the birthday of Arun Govil we will enjoy a song from the movie ‘Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin-1979’.

One well known song from this movie has been posted on the blog for the same occasion in 2018. I had been listening to this song since my growing up days. And I remember this song sung by Shailendra Singh was frequently played on radio then. Though it was a ‘negative song’ in the sense as it speaks of the ‘bebasi’ of the hero 🙂 (as Atul ji had mentioned while presenting this song on the blog in his post here).

While I was aware of this above song I had never attentively listened to the other songs from this movie till today. For this post I checked other songs of this movie and selected a song which has a special ‘touch of music of Raam-Laxman’. (It reminds me of his songs composed for Dada Kondke movies in Marathi.).

None of the songs of ‘Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin-1979’ made it to the annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala of 1979’. And for that matter none of the songs of ‘Saawan Ko Aane Do’ also made it to the ‘top 35 songs of 1979’ (I wonder why?). Though, one song of this movie appeared in the ‘annual Binaca Geetmala list of 1980’ – ‘chaand jaise mukhde pe’ – which stood at no.20 among the top forty songs.

I like the songs of this movie very much and so when I came into contact with this blog I had shared some songs of this movie, while the most known song of this moviewwas already posted on the blog earlier.

“Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin-1979’ was directed by Satyen Bose for ‘Ruchi Films, Bombay’. It was produced by Tarachand Barjatya.

It had Arun Govil, Madhu Kapoor, Urmila Bhatt, Arvind Deshpande, Baby Komal, Om Shivpuri, Gajanan Jagirdar, Amar Shan, Ram Mohan, Mushtaq Merchant, Javed Khan, Birbal, Surendra Kumar, Master Sandeep, C.S. Dubey, Datta Bhatt, Rajan Kapoor, Arjun Bakshi, Brajendra Mohan, Narbada Shankar, Pardesi, Mansaram, Mukund Bannerjee, Radheshyam Dixit, Taneja, Uma Khosla, Madhumita, Hansani Dutt, Veena Kapoor, Raj Verma, Albela and others.

The story idea of this movie was by Sharad Joshi. Screenplay and dialogues of this movie were written by Govind Moonis. Editing was done by Mukhtar Ahmed.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 08.03.1979. (Alphabetically the next movie of this year ‘1979’ was ‘Saawan Ko Aane Do’ which was passed by Censor Board on 31.08.1979. Whereas, the third movie of Arun Govil of this year which was ‘Raadha Aur Seeta-1979’, was passed by Censor Board on 27.06.1979
Music for all the three movies was composed by different music directors i.e. Rajkamal for ‘Saawan Ko Aane Do’, Raam-Laxman for ‘Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin’ and Ravindra Jain for ‘Raadha Aur Seeta’.).

“Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin” has five songs. four were written by Kulwant Jani and one by Ravinder Rawal.
Music for this movie was composed by Raam-Laxman.

Shailendra Sing and Usha Mangeshkar were the two singers whose voices featured in the songs of this movie.

Today’s song is routine ‘question-answer’ or ‘paheli’ (not very difficult one ) song between two lovers which is sung by Shailendra Singh and Usha Mangeshkar. Arun Govil and Madhu Kapoor lip-sync the song on screen.

Let us now enjoy today’s song and wish Arun Govil a ‘very happy birthday and a healthy and peaceful life ahead’ …

Lyrics for today’s song are by Kulwant Jani.

Song-Hari hari menhdi ki patiyaan laal hathheli hai (Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin)(1979) Singers-Shailendra Singh, Usha Mangeshkar, Lyrics-Kulwant Jani, MD-Ram Laxman

Lyrics

hari hari mehndi ki patiyaan
laal hathheli hai
bol ri sajni bol zaraa
ye kya paheli hai

haan …
kya farmaaya aapne

hari hari mehndi ki patiyaan
laal hathheli hai
bol ri sajni bol zaraa
ye kya paheli hai

arey ae ye ae rang hai dil ka
zaraa chhalkaa chhalkaa
kuchh gehraa gehraa
halkaa halkaa
haath mera laal hai
jo apni misaal hai

pyaar ka kamaal hai
ye pyaar ka kamaal hai

ham tum donon do hain lekin
ek baat batlaao naa
do dil mil kar ek bane
ye raaz hai kya samjhaao naa

ham tum donon do hai lekin
ek baat batlaao naa
do dil mil kar ek bane
ye raaz hai kya samjhaao naa

tumko paakar samajh gayaa main
raaz ye thhoda thhoda
do hote hans magar
kehlaata hai ek jodaa
arey ae ye ae rang hai dil ka
zaraa chhalkaa chhalkaa
kuchh gehraa gehraa
halkaa halkaa
gaalon pe gulaal hai jo
honthon pe sawaar hai

pyaar ka kamaal hai
ye pyaar ka kamaal hai

tum baaghon ka phool gulaabi
main matwaala bhanwraa re ae
kaun si hai wo cheez ki jisne
ham donon ko baandha re ae
tum baaghon ka phool gulaabi
main matwaala bhanwaraa re ae
kaunsi hai wo cheez ki jisne
ham donon ko baandha re ae
tumne meri khushboo paayi
maine tera sangeet
isi tarah bas hote hote
ho gayi apni preet

arey ae ye ae rang hai dil ka
ho zaraa chhalkaa chhalkaa
kuchh gehraa gehraa
halkaa halkaa
bolo kya khayaal hai
jo dhadkanon mein taal hai
pyaar ka kamaal hai
ye pyaar ka kamaal hai

pyaar ka kamaal hai
ye pyaar ka kamaal hai
pyaar ka kamaal hai
ye pyaar ka kamaal hai

pyaar ka kamaal hai
ye pyaar ka kamaal hai
