Blog 10-Year Challenge (2013-2023) – Song No. 125
————————————————————————————–

Today’s song under the ‘blog ten year challenge 2013-2023’ is from the movie ‘Post Master-1955’.

Normally, it is Atul ji who is regularly presenting songs under ‘blog ten-year challenge’ with Prakash ji contributing the lyrics. However when I noticed this movie ‘Post Master’ falling under this ‘challenge’ I requested Prakash ji to allow me to send this song post.

It was because I had sent the lyrics for the first song from this movie ten years back in ‘2013’ when I was a ‘new member’ on the blog as a ‘lyrics contributor’. When I shared the lyrics for the first song from this movie I was not aware about the details of this movie ‘Post Master’ then. Now equipped with HFGK I wish to update the information about this movie on the blog and also share it’s second song (since so far the song shared in ‘2013’ remains as the only song from this movie posted on the blog.).

Well, first of all we need to update that this movie ‘Post Master’ is a ‘Un-released’ movie of the fifties. While presenting the first song from this movie on the blog Shri Atul ji had rightly mentioned,

“Post Master” (1955) was a movie I had never heard about. In fact, I wonder if this movie figures in the list of movies released in 1955.

Yes, this movie does not figure in the movies released. As per HFGK Vol-III (1951-1960) this movie was not released at all. The Geet Kosh also mentions that the recording of the songs of this movie was completed in November’1955.

There is no information provided in the Geet Kosh about the producer, director and cast of this movie except that it was a ‘social genre’ movie under the banners of ‘Shri R.B. Productions’.

Geet Kosh lists six songs for this movie with a possibility of more songs (not known) in this movie.

Verma Malik is the lyricist and Ram Ganguly is the music composer for this movie.

Today we will listen to the second song from this movie.

Before that, let us have a look for the songs/movies represented on the blog ten years back on this day i.e. 26.05.2013.

Only three songs were posted on this day ten years back (though the average rate of songs per day for May’2013 was an impressive 4.50 songs per day ).

Song Title Name & Year of the movie Remarks
Aa gayi hai ishq pe bahaar Saaqi-1952 All songs covered
Main hoon ek hawaa ka jhonka Post Master-1955 1 of 06 songs posted
Hai bahut dinon ki baat Bhaabhi-1957 All songs covered

It can be seen from the above table that two movies (out of three movies represented on the blog on 26.05.2013) namely ‘Saaqi-1952’ and ‘Bhaabhi-1957’ have already been Yippeeee’ed’ on the blog.

So, only one movie i.e. ‘Post Master’ is eligible for Blog Ten Year Challenge today (26 May 2023).

Today’s song is a nice ‘jovial’ song. It is sung by Madhubala Zaveri. Lyrics are by Verma Malik and music is composed by Ram Ganguly.

Let us now enjoy this song.

#the Decade of Seventies – 1951 – 1960 #
————————————————————————

Today 20th April 2023 is the fifty third ‘remembrance anniversary’ of the legendary lyricist Shakeel Badayuni.

He was born on 3rd August 1916 and he passed away on 20th April 1970.

As a tribute to him, today I am presenting a song penned by him from an ‘un-released’ movie ‘Jitni Door Utne Paas-1960’.

Very little information is available about this movie in HFGK Vol-IV (1961-1960). The name of the director is not mentioned. The details about the cast is not available either.
However, Geet Kosh mentions the list of four songs for this movie and the lyricist name is given as Shakeel Badayuni for all four songs.

Music for this movie was composed by C. Ramchandra.

Geet Kosh also mentions the name of singers as Lata Mangeshkar, Mahendra Kapoor, Chitalkar and Manna Dey.

Here is a brief about this movie as mentioned by our respected Shri Arunkumar ji his comments on the first song of this movie. (I have only included the portion of his comment about the movie and not the other details about Lata-C Ramchandra combination and their relationship).

JITNE DOOR UTNE PAAS-1961 was to be a Raghavan production film in which, as per plans, the lead pair was to be Pradeep Kumar and Bina Rai. However, 4 songs were recorded and the film was abandoned after shooting few reals.it was never completed also.

One song from this movie ‘hamne apnaa tumhe samjhaa ye badi bhool huyi’ has been posted on the blog on 05.01.2012.

Today I present another song from this movie. It is sung by Lata Mangeshkar and music is composed by C. Ramchandra.

Lyrics for today’s song are by Shakeel Badayuni. We are paying our tributes to him today on the occasion of his ‘fifty-third’ ‘Remembrance Anniversary’.

Let us now listen to this song …

Only the audio of the song is available.

#the Decade of Fifties – 1951 – 1960 #
————————————————————————
(A tribute to Bhimsen Joshi)

Today 24th January’2023 is the twelfth ‘Remembrance Anniversary’ of great vocalist Pandit Bhimsen Joshi.

He was born on 04th February’1922 and passed away on 24th January’2011.

As a tribute to Bhimsen Joshi I am presenting a song from the 1959 Un-released movie ‘Pativrataa’.

Music for this movie was composed by famous music director of Marathi films Ram Kadam.

I was longing to introduce this movie on the blog, though un-released movie it is, because this the fourth and final movie where music director Ram Kadam composed music for Hindi films other than the movies, ‘Raaste Aur Manzil-1968’, ‘Sant Tulsidas-1972’ and ‘Pinjra-1973’(already represented on the blog).

HFGK Vol-III (1951-1960) does not mention any details for this movie ‘Pativrataa’ except listing of two songs from this movie in ‘unreleased movies’ section, name of the music director, singers, and production company.

However, since this movie was also made in Marathi (year 1959) I guess the same cast was there in the Hindi movie. I am giving details below herewith of this movie in Marathi.

‘Pativrataa’ was directed by Datta Dharmadhikari for ‘Alhad Chitra’.

Datta Dharmadhikari was also the producer of this movie.

‘Patrivrataa-1959’ (In Marathi) had Sulochana, Chandrakant, Jayshree Gadkar, Suryakant, Vivek, Indirabai Chitnis, Neelam, Damu Anna Malwankar, Vasant Shinde and others.
Raja Nene, Adhik Shirodkar, had guest appearances in this movie. And the movie also had child artistes Amrendra, Chhaya and Pratibha.

Editing of this movie was done by Anand Dharmadhikari.

Bhimsen Joshi, Asha Bhonsle, Lakshami Shankar and Janaki Aiyyar had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

As mentioned above music for this movie was composed by Ram Kadam.

Lyricist name for the songs in this movie is not mentioned in HGK Vol-III and also I didn’t find it mentioned in the titles of the ‘Marathi movie-Pativrataa’.

I would request our seniors on this blog and other knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.

Today’s song is sung by Bhimsen Joshi and Lakshami Shankar and music is composed by Ram Kadam.

Our tributes to Bhimsen Joshi, one of the greatest vocalist of this country, and one of my favorites.

With this song this movie ‘Pativrataa’ makes its debut on the blog.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2012-2022) – Song No. 83

This date ten years ago (viz 25 August 2012) saw six songs from six different movies getting covered in the blog.

Here are the details:-

Blog post number Song Movie (Year) Remarks
6509 Badi mushqil hai tumhe bhool jaana Ham Hain Raahi Pyaar Ke(UR)(1960) 4 songs covered out of 7 songs

“Ham Hain Raahi Pyaar Ke” (1960) was an unreleased movie. This movie was an Ismail Films Production. It had Feroz Khan, Balraj Sahni, Nishi etc in it.

HFGK mentions seven songs in it. Four songs have been covered. Two more songs seem to be available.

Here is the fifth song from “Ham Hain Raahi Pyaar Ke” (1960)(UR) to appear in the blog. The song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Tanveer Naqvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Khayyam.

Lyrics of the song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

This Week, That Year – 11
———————————–
10Jul – 16Jul, 2012

Wow wo
Those were the days, I am sure Atul ji would be remembering with relish. Or may be, he may himself not be believing the pace that was the norm in those days, This week, 10 years ago saw a whopping 46 songs posted. That works out to be an average of a tad over 6.5 songs per day. Ah yes, those were days.

And talking about ‘those were the days. . .’, I came across this very interesting exchange in the comment section of the first song of that week. The post was number 6206, the first one to be posted on the 1453rd day of the blog. The featured song is “Na Wo Hamse Judaa Honge” from the 1949 film ‘Dulaari’. A reader, identifying himself as simply MZ, posted this comment.

My first comment on this site.

You would be lucky to get 10 good songs in a year these days but in the forties and fifties, you could get 10 good songs in a movie such as this one. Just think of Naushad’s movies like Rattan, Anmol Ghadi, Andaz, Babul, Dulari, Uran Khatola, Deedar, Dastaan, Baiju Bawra, Shabab etc and it is staggering how he could come with so many gems in one movie.

Also going through your site, I see that in 1949 the following all time great musicals released – Shair, Paras, Namoona, Dulari, Mahal, Barsaat, Andaz, Bazaar, Lahore ,Badi Bahen, Dillagi, Chandini Raat, Shabnam, Patanga, Ek thi Ladki, Zevrat, Chakori, Jal Tarang, Raat ki raani, Laadli.

How I envy those who lived during those times !!!

To this, Atul ji had responded,

Those were different days indeed.

Ah yes, surely, indeed those were different days. 46 songs in a single week. . .

I return to the numbers game and the review of the postings from that week. The following table contains the day by day information of the posts from that week.

In these 46 posts, three films were repeated. Two films are from 1949 – ‘Chaandni Chowk’, two songs, and ‘Dulaari’, three songs. The third movie repeated that week is the 1976 film ‘Laila Majnu’, two songs, This works out to be 42 different films that got showcased that week.

The distribution by decade preference is as follows,

1930s  –  1
1940s  –  9
1950s  –  15
1960s  –  13
1970s  –  6
1980s+ –  2

As always, the distribution is obviously weighed down in the decades of 50s and 60s.

That week, fifteen films had made their debut, and one film – ‘Dulaari’ from 1949 was Yippeee’d. Ah well, three songs of that film during the week.

Of the 42 films that were featured that week, 21 films have since been Yippeee’d. Of the remaining 21 films that are still pending, the film ‘Taatar Ka Chor’ from 1955 is waiting for one last song, but that one appears to be untraceable. So this film is tagged as Yc – conditionally Yippeee’d.

A major milestone reached that week was the 400th guest post by yours truly. The post for the song “Main Hoon Atom Bomb” from the 1960 film ‘Dr Shaitaan’, published on 10th July that year, was my 400th post on the blog.

Today I present one more song of the unreleased film ‘Salaam e Mohabbat’ from the 1950s. This film had made its debut 10 years ago on 10th of July. The song posted was the iconic Talat Mehmood rendition of “Main Tujhko Agar Ik Phool Kahoon”. The song coming on board today is another enchanting melody by the music director duo Bipin Babul. The words are from the pen of Anjum Jaipuri and the singing voice is Sudha Malhotra.

As I was searching for the song to go along with with this post, I came across this wonderful song. It has been sitting in my collection all the while but I am hearing it for the first time today.

Yes, those were the days. Those were the days that not only the top rung music directors produced great songs in their films, even the lesser known and lesser heard music directors like Bipin Babul came up with enchanting melodies. Melodies that were lost to the listening public – unreleased films and released but unsuccessful films otherwise.

Those certainly were the days. And it is for this reason that period is called the Golden Age of the Hindi film song – melody was surely ruling the minds of the creators of songs of that era.

Listen to this song, and wonder. . .

khuda khair kare
husn ko teer chalaana hai
khuda..aa khair kare
khuda khair kare
kiska dil aaj nishaana hai
khuda..aa khair kare
khuda khair kare

आ आss आsss आsss आs
आ आss आsss

आ आss आsss आsss आs
आ आss आsss

आ आss आsss आsss आs
आ आss आsss

That is our respected Bharat Bhai. I spoke to him last in this March. Just a courtesy call. But whenever I spoke to him, he was always energetic, full of life and cheerful. . .

I used to call him occasionally, in between particularly after meeting him first time in November 2016 during the Mumbai gang-out. Thereafter the second meeting happened in April 2018 at Surat when Arun ji, Sadanand ji and Bharat Bhai came to meet Harish Raghuvanshi ji at his place.

But today, on 16th May we got this sad news of his demise on 8th of this month.

We all pray to god to rest his soul in peace!!!

Our heartfelt condolences and tributes to him!!!

This song which could have been a part of his series ‘Sureeli Suman’ which I had shared to him and requested a post, but it could not happen somehow, may be because of his health issues. . .

After coming back from Kenya to India I was eager to visit Mumbai and meet him but it could not happen.

On 19th March I called him to greet him on his birthday and also to seek his blessings, as I always used to do while ending the conversation.

We will miss you Sir!!!

The warmth, the love you showered in every meeting and whenever I spoke to you will always remain in memory – the musical meetings, your smiling face and your lovable presence around us will always be missed.

Song – Ummeedon Se Keh Do Ke Na Aansoo Bahaayen (Jwaalamukhi) (UR) (1950s)(1959) Singer – Suman Kalyanpur, Lyrics – Dukhi Amritsari, MD – Devraj

Lyrics

ummeedon se keh do
ke na aansoo bahaayein
rone ko ab to aa gayi hain
kaali ghataayein
ummeedon se keh do

keh do ke ab na machlen
seene mein nafratein
seene mein nafratein
keh do ke ab na tadpen
haaye
dil ki hasratein
haaye
dil ki hasratein
duniya ki nigaahon mein
kahin ham na aa jaayen
rone ko to aa gayi hain
kaali ghataayein
ummeedon se keh do

keh do ke looti duniya meri
aa ke yahin par
aa ke yahin par
keh do ke padi maut hain
chaahat ki zameen par
hai kaun wo apni
jo is arthhi ko uthhaaye
rone ko ab to aa gayi hain
kaali ghataayein
ummeedon se keh do

keh do meri duniya ko
kyun barbaad kiya hai
kyun barbaad kiya hai
keh do meri khushiyon ko
kyun nashaad kiya hain
kyun nashaad kiya hain
haalat ko meri dekh ke
na nain bhar aayen
rone ko ab to aa gayi hain
kaali ghataayein
ummeedon se keh do

“Imaan”(UR)(1951), a Moti Pictures production, was a movie whose songs were recorded in 1951 (july-september) but the movie was unreleased viz the movie was not presented before Censor board for release.

The movie had more than eight songs in it though mukhda of only eight songs are known.

Here is the first song from “Imaan”(UR)(1951) to appear in the blog. HFGK describes it as sung by Asha Bhonsle and Talat Mehmood. On listening to the song, it is clear that the song is an Asha Bhonsle solo.

Priyadarshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Pt Moriram.

With this song, “Imaan”(UR)(1951) makes its debut in the blog.

Song-Bachpan ka zamaana yaad hai (Imaan)(1951) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Pt Priyadarshi, MD-Motiram

Lyrics

bachpan ka zamaana yaad hai
bachpan ka zamaana yaad hai
gaya bachpana aayi jawaani
wo bhi din wo bhi din
aur ye bhi din haaye
wo bhi din yaad hai
bachpan ka zamaana yaad hai

pyaari maiyya roz sawere mujhko
doodh pilaati thhi
haan mujhko doodh pilaati thhi
shaam ko thapak thapak kar
mujhko apne saath sulaati thhi
haan apne saath sulaati thhi
sapne jaise beet gaye hain wo bhi din
wo bhi din aur ye bhi din
haaye wo bhi din mujhe yaad hai
bachpan ka zamaana yaad hai

aayine mein dekh dekh baalon ko
sanwaaroon khadi khadi
baalon ko sanwaaroon khadi khadi
raste chalne waalon ko dekha karti thhi khadi khadi
haath pakad maa le jaati thhi
wo bhi din
wo bhi din
aur ye bhi din
haaye
wo bhi din mujhe yaad hai
bachpan ka zamaana yaad hai

laad pyaar aur mamta maa ki dekhi hai
na dekhoongi
haan dekhi hai na dekhoongi
unhi ke charnon ki sewa mein duniya ka
sukh dekhoongi
haan duniya ka sukh dekhoongi
jaise sundar nikal gaye hain wo bhi din
wo bhi din aur ye bhi din
haaye
wo bhi din mujhe yaad hai
bachpan ka zamaana yaad hai
gaya bachpana aayi jawaani
wo bhi din wo bhi din
aur ye bhi din
haaye
wo bhi din yaad hai
bachpan ka zamana yaad hai

Really, many days now since the last visit to Bombay. So I take you there once again today, along with a very rare, almost unheard and a very out of the ordinary song.

Fabulous Foot Tappers – 2
– – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Today’s selection is in the voice of Geeta Dutt.  Coming to think of it, it is just these two voices that have the capacity and the capability to make a foot tapper song – Asha Bhosle and Geeta Dutt. I cannot think of any other female singer who can manage songs of the type we are discussing in this series.  There could be exceptions but I cannot readily recall any right away.
