pahunche chaman mein hum
to khizaan ban gayi bahaar
kaante naseeb mein hain
jo dil mein chubhaayen hum m

duniya ki ye khushi hai
tujhe bhool jaayen hum m

o roothh jaane waale tu itna bataaye ja

roothhe huye naseeb ko
kaise manaayen hum m
kaise manayen hum
duniya ki ye khushi hai
tujhe bhool jaayen hum m
tujhe bhul jaayen hum
tere baghair jeena hai
marna teri kasam m m m m
kya khaaq zindagi hai
ke tujhko na paayen hum
tujhko na paayen hum
duniya ki ye khushi hai
tujhe bhool jaayen hum
tujhe bhool jaayen hum

“Panchhi” (1944) was directed by Barkat Mehra for N I Studio, Lahore. This “social” movie had Ajmal, Manorama, Hari Shivdasani, Salma, Gulam Qadir,Salim Raza etc in it.

The movie had ten songs in it and these songs were as obscure as the movie itself.

One song from the movie has been covered in the past.

Here is the second song from “Panchhi”(1944) to appear in the past. HFGK is silent about the details of this song, but the uploader mentions Zeenat Begam as the singer and Akhtar Chugtai as the lyricist. Music is composed by Pt Amarnath.

This extremely obscure song, with some superb lyrics sounds like a forgotten gem that deserves to be better known among music lovers.

I have not been able to get a word/ phrase right in the lyrics. I request our readers with keener ears to help fill in the blanks/ suggest corrections as applicable.

“Kaneez”(1949) was directed by Krishn Kumar for Caravan Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Shyam, Munawwar Sultana, Urmila, Kuldeep Kaur, Cuckoo, Tiwari, Ramesh Sinha, Shyama etc in it.

There were twelve songs in the movie. Nine of these songs have been discussed in the past.

Here is the tenth song from “Kaneez”(1949) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Zeenat Begam. Shatir Ghaznavi is the lyricist.

The song is picturised on Munawwar Sultana who plays the lead role of a rich heiress who is forced to live as a servant (Kaneez) in her own household becuase of the machinations of the villains, before justice is done and she is restored to her usual position.

The movie had Ghulam Haider and Hansraj Bahl as the two music directors. This song is composed by Ghulam Haider.

The video version has poor audio and it is incomplete as well. The record version is longer and full (with one additional stanza) and its audio quality is better as well.

Lyrics

apni roothi huyi ee

dil pe furkat mein jo beeti hai

apni aankhon ke main pardon mein
chhup loon to hansoon
baat ban ban ke jo bigdi hai
bana loon to hansoon
apni roothhi huyi
kismat ko manaa loon
to hansoo
