In this post we cover a song from the ‘1965’ movie “Aasmaan Mahal”.
“Aasmaan Mahal” was directed by Khawaja Ahmed Abbas for ‘Naya Sansaar, Bombay’.It had Prithviraj, Surekha, Nana Palsikar, Rashid Khan, Madhukar, Yunus Parvez, Mridula, Dilip Raj, Ravikant, Virendra Raj Anand, Chandar B. Kaushal, Anwar Hussain, Naseem Bano, Ishrat Sultana, Anugeeta, David, Ram Singh, Murty, M.A. Parkar, Irshad Panjatan, Babbanlal, Agrawal, Rani, Shibdhatullah and others.
This movie has six songs. Three songs were credited to Ali Sardar Jafri, in one of them he gets jointly credited with Ghalib, while Majaz gets credited for one song. Lyricist name is not mentioned for remaining two songs.
Music for this movie was composed by J.P. Kaushik.

It can be seen from the above table that this movie had made its debut on the blog on 17.05.2017 with a detailed post about Khawaja Ahmed Abbas and this film by our Shri Sudhir Kapoor ji. (Interested readers can read that article posted on 17.05.2017).
One more song was added to this movie on 27.07.2019.
The song being discussed is the third song from this movie being presented today.
This song is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and it is lip synced on screen by Dileep Raj. This song is part of a ‘mushaaira’.
In the movie this recitation takes place after a ‘nazm’ recitation by the actress Surekha viz ‘toone samjhi hi nahin kya hai haqeeqat meri’. The actor Dileep Raj who plays a son of the ‘Nawaab’ Prithvi Raj Kapoor in the movie presents another ‘nazm’ in response. Both of them love each other but their ‘social status’ is preventing them from marrying each other. At the end of the movie, all this is ‘happily resolved’ as mentioned by Sudhir ji in his post here.
We have some beautiful verses written by Ali Sardar Jafri and recited by Mahendra Kapoor. The video of the song has no music in it while the audio recording of the song is accompanied by music.

Welcome all to this post of mine which is coming after a l-o-n-g gap. I was not sure this time also if I could be able to send this write-up. But thanks to ALL, I can now hope to share articles on regular basis as earlier. More about my long absence in the other future posts.
Coming back to the today’s post, which comes on a special occasion and that is the celebration of ‘Hindi Diwas’ today on 14th September.
Though I am not aware more of more details on this subject to write here today, I would like to add the following brief which I have gathered from the internet about this subject. (I hope readers will forgive me for my ‘ignorance’ on the details of this subject).
I am reproducing here the information given on internet about ‘Hindi Diwas’ which I have taken from ‘Wikipedia’
हिन्दी दिवस प्रत्येक वर्ष 14 सितम्बर को मनाया जाता है। प्रबुद्ध सोसाइटी के राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष डा. श्री प्रकाश बरनवाल का कहना है कि 14 सितम्बर 1949 को संविधान सभा ने यह निर्णय लिया कि हिन्दी केन्द्र सरकार की आधिकारिक भाषा होगी। क्योंकि भारत मे अधिकतर क्षेत्रों में ज्यादातर हिन्दी भाषा बोली जाती थी इसलिए हिन्दी को राजभाषा बनाने का निर्णय लिया और इसी निर्णय के महत्व को प्रतिपादित करने तथा हिन्दी को प्रत्येक क्षेत्र में प्रसारित करने के लिये वर्ष 1953 से पूरे भारत में 14 सितम्बर को प्रतिवर्ष हिन्दी-दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है। स्वतन्त्रता प्राप्ति के बाद हिन्दी को आधिकारिक भाषा के रूप में स्थापित करवाने के लिए काका कालेलकर, हजारीप्रसाद द्विवेदी, सेठ गोविन्ददास आदि साहित्यकारों को साथ लेकर व्यौहार राजेन्द्र सिंह ने अथक प्रयास किये।

Well, above is the brief only. There is a long history behind ‘celebrating Hindi Diwas’ and ‘celebrating it on 14th September.
I had been always longing to bring here songs which talk about our culture, traditions, folklores etc etc and I have presented few of them under the series ‘Desh Ki Mitti Ki Khushboo’. Similarly, every year whenever ‘Hindi Diwas’ is celebrated I was looking for a suitable song for this occasion. Earlier I had come across many ‘non-film songs’ on this subject. However, when I was looking for the songs from the ‘1972’ movie ‘Kavi Sammelan’ I came across the today’s song which talks about the greatness of ‘Hindi’ -‘Hindi Bhaasha’, and I am very happy to present this song on the blog today.
Today’s song or rather a ‘poem recitation’ is by Santosh Anand ji of his own poem.

A brief about the movie ‘Kavi Sammelan-1972’ is given below.
‘Kavi Sammelan-1972’ was directed by Kedar Sharma for ‘Rajshri Productions Pvt Ltd’.
It was produced by Tarachand Badjatya.
Introduction of the poets on the dais was done by Ramrikh Manhar.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 18.02.1972. Thus, this movie has now already completed its fifty years of release.
The footnote for this movie page in HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980) mentions that ‘Bharat ke shreshthhtam Kavi pehli baar ek saath rajat-pat par pesh kiye gaye thhe.’

Welcome all to this post and wishing herewith all a ‘very happy and colourful Holi-2022’.
This is the fourteenth ‘holi’ celebration on this ‘musical’ blog and as is ‘customary’ for us we celebrate this by enjoying a song, for a change a ‘poetry’ recitation, in this post today.
As usual for me the ‘holi’ celebrations always reminded me the ‘hasya-vyang kavi sammelans’ program on TV channels. I had always loved to watch these programs savour the humorous, satirical, and other poems presented in these programs.
So, today we enjoy one such humorous poem recited by the famous poet Shail Chaturvedi. This poem is from the movie ‘Kavi Sammelan-1972’.
I am sure the regular readers on the blog must be enjoying all the posts presented under this series of poems from this movie. Today’s presentation is the fourth ‘poem-post’ from this movie.
On watching the video of the poems one can easily note the ‘banner’ hanged on the stage of this program where all the respected poets are also present. The banner also mentions this ‘kavi sammelan’ as a ‘haasya ras kavi sammelan’.

Shail Chaturvedi was born on 29th June 1936 at Amravati, Maharashtra. He started his career as a lecturer at Allahabad University. There he also started participating in the ‘Kavi Sammelan’ progams held and soon became a regular personality at such programs held. Due to his speciality of presenting real life politics through his ‘satire’ and ‘humour’ he developed a ‘special place’ for himself among his contemporary poets in viz. Kaka Hathrasi , Pradeep Chaubey, and Ashok Chakradhar. This was during the period of 1970s and 1980s.
He also acted in some movies e.g., ‘Uphaar-1971’, ‘Chitchor-1976’ etc. He was also a regular feature in the various ‘Holi festival Kavi Sammelan programs’ presented on TV channels.
He had also acted in TV serials like ‘Kakkaji Kahin’, ‘Zaban Sambhalke’ and ‘Shriman Shrimati’ etc.
He authored books ‘Chal Gayi’, ‘Baazaar Ka Ye Haal Hai’, ‘Hansi Aati Hai’ etc. His poems have also been published in many newspapers, magazines, and audio cassettes too.
He left this world on 29th October’2007 at Mumbai. He was suffering from chronic kidney failure in his last days.

Today’s ‘poetry recitation’ is the third offering from this movie ‘Kavi Sammelan’ (1972) to appear on the blog.
The first ‘poem-post’ from this movie – “Tum Ek Baar Priye Aa Jaao“, was posted on the blog on 05.02.2022. This poem was written and recited by ‘poet-lyricist’ Maya Govind. The second poem from this movie – “Lakshmi Maiyya Var De” was presented on 12.02.2022 which was written and recited by Kaka Hathrasi.
The movie ‘Kavi Sammelan’ was directed by Kedar Sharma for Rajshri Productions Pvt Ltd., and it was was produced by Tarachand Badjatya. Compering of this poetry recitation program and introduction of the poets was done by Ramrikh ‘Manhar’.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 18.02.1972, which means this movie has now completed ‘fifty years’ of its age 😊
The footnote for this movie page in HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980) mentions that “Bharat ke shreshthhtam Kavi pehli baar ek saath rajat-pat par pesh kiye gaye thhe” – (“भारत के श्रेष्ठतम कवि पहली बार एक साथ रजत-पट पेश किए गए थे”). Poems of following poets are included in this movie.

Today’s poem is written by Gopaldas Saxena popularly known to us by his pen-name ‘Neeraj’. He has given us a ‘treasure trove’ of his poems and many immortal lyrics in Hindi Film Songs which will be read and savored by generations to come, as long as poetry and Hindi Film Music is discussed.
This recitation is a set of three short poems. In Hindi, this is called a ‘मुक्तक’ (muktak). These are short poems that are not connected to each other, although they are presented together.
Neeraj ji was born on 04.01.1925 and left this world on 19.07.2018. A detailed post on Neeraj ji, with the song “Isko Bhi Apnaata Chal Usko Bhi Apnaata Chal” (film ‘Nai Umar Ki Nai Fasal’, 1965), was written by our Shri Sadanand ji on 20.07.2018 as a tribute to him. I think this is one of the excellent posts on the blog that everybody should read. Hence, I am not mentioning about Neeraj ji’s biography or filmography in brief here. Because his ‘stature’ is so great and requires a post of such calibre which is already written by Sadanand ji. This post mentions in details about the biography of Neeraj ji and his journey into the world of poetry and film songs. I request readers to kindly go through this post.

It was produced by Tarachand Badjatya.This film is live recording of a stellar gathering of poets, who came together on one stage to present and sing their poems, in 1968. Compering of this program and introducing the poets was done by Ramrikh Manhar. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 18.02.1972 (within few days now this movie will complete its ‘fifty years’).

Today’s poem is written by Kaka Hathrasi. On screen Kaka Hathrasi himself has recited this poem which is a ‘humorous poem’ (haasya kavita), the genre of poems, which Kaka Hathrasi is well known for. Kata Hathrasi (real name Prabhulal Garg) was born on 18th September, 1906 in Hathras (in United Provinces of Agra and Oudh in British India), in a ‘Agrawal Vaishya’ family. Kaka has himself written about his date of birth as below.

His ancestors came from Gokul Mahawan and settled in Hathras. They were in the business of selling of utensils. Grandfather of Kaka Shri Sitaram continued the business he got from his father. When the property was divided Kaka’s father Shri Shivlal Garg had to work in a ‘utensils’ shop as a ‘munim’.
The year Kaka born was the time when ‘plague’ had spread in India. Many families lost their near and dear ones in that pandemic and the tragedy of plague destroyed many families. Kaka’s family also suffered in this pandemic. And when Kaka was only 15 days old, he lost his father. His mother Barfidevi, a twenty-year-old housewife then, was grief-stricken. Kaka’s elder brother Bhajanlal was only two years old then.
His father could only leave a small house in Hathras as his property and nothing more that that with which the family could survive. Kaka’s mother took Kaka and his brother to Iglas where her parents and brothers were staying. Kaka’s maternal uncles helped his mother in all the way as possible. However, she could not get mental peace there and she decided to return to Hathras to their home. Her brothers arranged for a regular financial help for the family. When Kaka was ten years old his maternal uncle brought him to Iglas for education. After completing his education Kaka took a job at Rs.6/- per month salary where he was supposed to keep accounts and records of the weight of the grain bags.
Kaka used to take part in plays while he was in school and his character as ‘Kaka’ in one of the plays got him this name as Kaka and people used to call him by the name of Kaka. He kept the same name and added his place of birth Hathras to his name. When he took up writing he continue to write by the name of Kaka Hathrasi.
His first book ‘Kaka Ki Kachehari’ was published in 1946. Some stories and some of his humorous poems were compiled in this book. By this time Kaka had become a well-known personality of ‘humorous and satirical’ poems and a regular part of ‘Hasya Kavi Sammelans’. He used to keep beard, and this look of him got popular too.

In 1957 Kaka was invited to a Kavi Sammelan held at Red Fort Delhi. On this occasion Kaka was asked to present a poem on ‘bravery and valour’ which was not his genre of poems. But Kaka presented a poem to hail the revolutionaries who fought for the freedom of India in 1857 – ‘Kraanti Ka Bigul’. The organiser of this program was Gopal Prasad Vyas. All present at this function appreciated Kaka’s poem, and thus Kaka continued further and became a prominent name among the writers and poets of India.
Kaka has many creations to his credit where the prominent among them are ‘Kaka Tarang’, ‘Kaka Ki Chaupaal’, ‘Jai Bolo Beimaan Ki’ and ‘Mera Jeevan’. Kaka was honoured with Padma Shri in 1985 by the government of India. Delhi based Hindi Academy has instituted a ‘Kaka Hathrasi Award’ for ‘outstanding contributions in the field of Hindi literature’ every year.
Born on 18th September, 1906 Kaka left for his heavenly abode on the same date in 1995 at the age of eighty-nine years.
