#the Decade of Sixties – 1961 – 1970 #
————————————————————————

I was looking for a song from specifically from the year ‘1968’ today for presenting here on the blog. When I browsed the ‘list of movies’ on the blog I came across this tiltle ‘Balram Shrikrihna-1968’.

‘Balram Shrikrihna-1968’ was a mythological movie based on Shrimad Bhagwat Katha.

I do not remember to have watched this movie and neither the songs from this movie seemed familiar to me when I check the list in HFGK Vol-IV (1961-1970).

When I selected a song and looked for its link I found it is luckily available in video format too.

So, today in this post I present this song from this movie ‘Balram Shrikrishna-1968’.

Incidentally this song is picturised on Bela Bose and Madhumati.

Bela Bose who had acted in more than two hundred films passed away a day before yesterday at the age of eighty years. She was born on 1st January’1943 and left for her heavenly abode on 20th February’2023.
Bela Bose was a trained dancer and she also acted in many regional language films.

She was present in many movies that I get to watched in my childhood years and specially remembered her role in ‘Jai Santoshi Maa-1975’, ‘Devar-1966’ and other movies which I watched of her.

“Balram Shrikrishna-1968’ was directed Chandrakant for ‘Joy Films’.

Chandrakant was also the producer of this movie.

It had Dara Singh, Shahu Modak, Premnath, Nana Palsikar, Randhawa, Azad, Ashish Kumar, Jemini Ganesh, Prithviraj, Savitri, Jayshree Gadkar, Geetanjali, Madhumati, Bela Bose, Padma Rani, Sushma, Uma Khosla, Aruna Irani, Sulochana Chatterjee, Babu Raje, Shery, B.M. Vyas, Anand Joshi, Arvind Pandya, Bhalerao, Radheshyam, Pal Sharma and others.

Screenplay of this movie was written by Chaturbhuj Doshi and dialogues of this movie were written by Ramesh Pande
Editing of this movie was done by Ram Khade and Vithoba Surve.

This movie has nine songs written by Kavi Pradeep and composed to music by C. Ramchandra.
Mahendra Kapoor, Asha Bhonsle, Manna Dey and Kamal Barot had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

Two songs from this movie have been posted earlier on the blog on 10.05.2019 and 27.02.2020.

Today we present the third song from this movie on the blog.

Today’s song is sung by Kamal Barot and Asha Bhonsle and on screen it is Bela Bose and Madhumati performing on the song, which is ‘playful’ song. If I am not wrong we can also see Polsan and one other actor (Dilip Dutt?) whom I am unable to identify in the picturisation of this song, where they disguised as ‘sadhus’ and later as ‘female dancers’.

Let us now listen to this song and pay our tributes to Bela Bose …

#the Decade of Sixties – 1961 – 1970 #
————————————————————————

The song being presented with this post is from the ‘1968’ movie ‘Raaste Aur Manzil’.

“Raaste Aur Manzil-1968” directed by C. Vishwanath for ‘Saira Productions, Bombay’.

It had Naseer, Azra, Bharati, Janraj, Sabina, Sushma, Pratima Devi, Master Sachin, Sabnoor, Surendra Chutki, Girish, Kadam, Waghmare, Karandikar, Angre, Bal Krishna, Babu, Salim, Karnik, Yakub, Nawab, Moolchand Kapoor, Surendra Mota, Nazir Kashmiri and others.

“Raaste Aur Manzil” had five songs in it which were written by Ibrahim Faiz M.A.

Music for this movie was composed by Ram Kadam.

HFGK Vol-IV (1961-1970) mentions the names of Asha Bhonsle, Mohd Rafi and Krishna Kalle as singers for this movie.

However it does not mention the name of Asha Bhonsle for any individual song in the list of songs. For one song no singers’ name is mentioned.

The songs in the movie (hopefully as per their order of appearance in the movie) have been mentioned below as given in HFGK Vol-IV (1961-1970).

Two songs from this movie have been posted on the blog earlier as mentioned in the above table.

Today’s song is sung by Krishna Kalle. Only the audio of this song is available. This song is a rare song and a ‘never heard type’ song. However it is a nice song to listen to and it grows on us if we listen to it a few times. I hope readers will enjoy this song.

I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.

Let us listen to this rare song.

The movie had seven songs in it. Five sons from the movie have been covered in the past. The movie made its debut on the blog on 1 november 2011 with thissong. After a gap of 15 months, four more songs from the movie were discussed in february 2013. More than nine years have passed since.

Here is the sixth song from “Nadirshah”(1968) to appear in the blog. The song is sung by Suman Kalyanpur. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by S N Tripathi.

My guess is that this “Remonstrating with the Almighty” genre of song is picturised on Naaz. Nevertheless, I request our knowledgeable readers to help confirm/ refute my identifation of the artist.

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Raaste Aur Manzil-1968’.

One song from this movie was posted on the blog more than six years ago on 21.12.2015. I had shared lyrics for that song ‘main bahot door bahot door’. Music for this movie was composed by Ram Kadam.

Ram Kadam (August 1916 – 19 February 1997) was a famous and prominent music director of Marathi movies. I love his compositions in Marathi movies. Incidentally I had been instrumental in introducing his three Hindi movies viz. ‘Sant Tulsidas-1972’, ‘Raaste Aur Manzil-1968’ and ‘Pinjara-1973’ wherein I had shared lyrics for songs posted on the blog.

I didn’t have any information about the movie ‘Raaste Aur Manzil’ at that time as I was not equipped with HFGK Vol-IV those days.
But now, armed with HFGK Vol-IV (1961-1970) I am presenting another song from this movie and also details of the movie . This movie seems to be an obscure movie of its time and more details or videos of this movie seems to be unavailable.

“Raaste Aur Manzil-1968” was directed by C. Vishwanath for ‘Saira Productions, Bombay’. It had Naseer, Azra, Bharati, Janraj, Sabina, Sushma, Pratima Devi, Master Sachin, Sabnoor, Surendra Chutki, Girish, Kadam, Waghmare, Karandikar, Angre, Bal Krishna, Babu, Salim, Karnik, Yakub, Nawab, Moolchand Kapoor, Surendra Mota, Nazir Kashmiri and others.

“Raaste Aur Manzil” had five songs in it which were written by Ibrahim Faiz M.A.

Music for this movie was composed by Ram Kadam.

Here is the list of songs from this movie.

SNo Song Title Singer/s Posted On

03 Aaoonga main aaoonga Krishna Kalle
04 Main bahot door chalaa aaya hoon Mohd Rafi 21.12.2015
05 Khatm hua din jaltey jaltey … Mohd Rafi

HFGK doesn’t mention the singer’s name for the first song in the above list. Though, it does mention the name of Asha Bhonsle along with Mohd Rafi and Krishna Kalle, in the singer’s name for this movie in its foot-note for this movie-page.

Today’s song is sung by Mohd Rafi and the video of this song is luckily available. (Thanks to up-loader of this song).

We can see an actor, whom I am unable to identify, shown in jail singing this song. This song is a sad song and I do not know in what context it happens in the movie. We can see others artists (as prisoners) in the picturisation of this song.

I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.

Let us listen to today’s song now which is a nice composition to listen to …

Song-Khatm hua din jaltey jaltey (Raaste Aur Manzil)(1968) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Ibrahim Faiz, MD-Ram Kadam

Lyrics

Jaltey jaltey
Ho gayi gham ki raat
Ho gayi gham ki raat
Khatam hua din jaltey jaltey
Ab to meri naakaam ummeedon
Ab to meri naakaam ummeedon
Pal do pal ka saath
Khatam hua din
Khatam hua din

Gham ke sahaare din beete hain
Aas liye phir bhi jeete hain
Gham ke sahaare din beete hain
Aas liye phir bhi jeete hain
Khatam ho ab to
Dukh ki chinta
Khatam ho ab to
Dukh ki chinta
Khatam ho dukh ki baat
Khatam ho dukh ki baat
Khatam hua din
Khatam hua din

Mamta ka aadhaar kahaan hai
Mera paagal pyaar kahaan hai
Mamta ka aadhaar kahaan hai
Mera paagal pyaar kahaan hai
Ek kiran hai wo bhi komal
Ek kiran hai wo bhi komal
Kaun de apna saath
Kaun de apna saath
Khatam hua din
Jaltey jaltey
Ho gayi gham ki raat
Ho gayi gham ki raat

It can be seen from the table of 1968 that Lata Mangeshkar sang 84 songs in movies released in 1968. As many as 83 of these songs are already covered in the blog ! Out of 33 movies of 1968 here Lata Mangeshkar sang, all songs of 32 movies are already covered.

There is only one movie of 1968 containing a Lata Mangeshkar song thatis not yet covered in the blog.

This movie is “Apna Ghar Apni Kahaani”(1968). This movie was directed by Phani Majumdar fr Rachna Films, Bmbay. This “social” movie had Shekhar, Bina Rai, Mumtaz, Sudhir, Bela Bose, David, Brahm Bhardaj, Madhumati, Keshto Mukherjee, Keshav Rana, Baby Farida etc in it.

This movie was originally named “Pyaas”. Its records were issued under this name. So one should not be confused if this song is mentioned as belonging to “Pyaas” by some people.

The movie had six songs in it. Three songs have been covered in the past.

The movie had one Lata solo in it which is not covered so far.

I had come across this song some time back. The song was wonderful to listen to and I had earmarked it for some special occasion. Now that I have to discuss a Lata Mangeshkar sng from 1968, this is the ONLY Lata Mangeshkar song available for me to discuss !

This song is penned by Qamar Jalalabadi. N Datta is the music director.

The song is picturised on Bela Bose as a roadside tamasha song. Bela Bose is dancing joyously hile the lyrics of the song are meant to express the feelings of separation that Bina Rai, playing a dukhiyaari naari and listening to the song from the cofines of her home.

Some people, including I are immediately reminded of the “Zanjeer” (197) roadside tamasha song Deewaane hain deewaanon ko na ghar chaahiye . That song had a female dancer dancing joyously hile lip syncing the feelings of the lead pair watching from their residence.

Both these songs had another thig in common, viz a male dholak player ho is better known in other capacity. The “Zanjeer” dholakiya was played by lyricist Gulshan Bawra. Here the dholak player is Prem Dhawan, better known as a lyricist cum music director.

In my view, that I had expressed during the earlier days of this blog, 1968 was a year that gave us a large mumber of immortal songs and so I describe this year 1968 not as a golden year but as a Platimun year for HFM. This year had quality songs even though quantity was less-only 458 songs which was the loest number of songs composed for movies of a calender year during the entire Golden era of HFM (spanning from 1949 till 1980.

ith this song, each and every Lata Mangeshkar song sung by her for movies of 1968 have been covered in the blog. So Lata Mangeshkar songs of 1968 get YIPPEED in the blog, so to say. It is a matter of time when all 458 songs of 1968 too get covered in the blog. Right no we are at 316 songs for the year with just over 150 songs to go for 1968.

“Ek Phool Ek Bhool”(1968) was directed by Kidar Kapoor. This “social drama” had Dev Kumar, Zeb Rehman, Jayanti, Sudhir, Madan Puri, KN Singh, Helen, Dulari, Sunder etc in it.

The movie had five songs in it. Two songs from the movie have been covered in the blog. Both songs were covered in 2012 and after that there has been no activity for songs of this movie in the blog,

After the passage of eight years, here is another song from “Ek Phool Ek Bhool”(1968) to appear in the blog. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Indeewar is the lyricist. Music is composed by Usha Khanna.

The song is picturised as a roadside tamasha song where a lady performs a dance song, assisted by a few colleagues accompanying her on musical instruments like dholak etc. A group of bystanders dutyfully gather around the performers in a circle. The most well known song of this genre is the “Zanjeer” (1973) song- Deewaane hain deewaanon ko na ghar chaahiye .

I am unable to identify the lady performing the dance while the lead pair look on as part of the audience. I can identify Birbal as the dholakiya. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the other artists seen in the picturisation.

Song-O kahaan leke dil chale (Ek Phool Ek Bhool)(1968) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Indeewar, MD-Usha Khanna

Lyrics

o kahaan leke dil chale mere sainya manchale
o kahaan leke dil chale mere sainya manchale
kaahe ko itni doori
laga bhi lo gale
o kahaan leke dil chale mere sainya manchale
o kahaan leke dil chale mere sainya manchale

o kahaan leke dil chale mere saiya manchale

aaj tak tumne mujhse kinaara kiya
haan kinaara kiya
phir bhi dekho tumhen maine pa hi liya
haan jee pa hi liya
sooni sooni raahon mein diye pyaar ke jale
o sooni sooni raahon mein diye pyaar ke jale
kaahe ko itni doori
laga bhi lo gale
o kahaan leke dil chale mere sainya manchale

roothhi ye chutkiyon mein mana lenge hum
haan mana lenge hum
aur apna tumhe phir bana lenge hum
haan bana lenge hum
sachche kar lenge sapne
jo sapne aankhon mein paley
sachche kar lenge sapne
jo sapne aankhon mein paley
kaahe ko itni doori laga bhi lo gale
o kahaan leke dil chale
mere sainya manchale
o kahaan leke dil chale
mere sainya manchale
