#the Decade of Eighties – 1981 – 1990 #
————————————————————————
A fortnight back, our ‘Sampaadak-Shri’ Shri Atul ji (if you are in Gujarat you will find this reference very common 🙂 ) posted a song for the ‘full moon occurrence’ which was on 06th January’2023. The song though appeared three days later on 09.01.2023. This song was ‘raat chaandni samay suhaana hai’ from the ‘1960’ movie ‘Basant’.
Today we have the ‘darkest night’ i.e. ‘amaavsya’ and I have a song for this occasion too :). I am presenting a song ‘celebrating the kaali raat’. That reminds me these lines ‘ab kisko kyaa milaa ye muqaddar ki baat hai’ from the song ‘ek chaand aasmaan pe hai’… 🙂
Let us come back to tonight’s post …
This song is a song that I got to listen to on radio in recent months. It sounded familiar, though I was not able to put a finger to it. Moreover I felt that the song may aready be there on the blog. But it was not. So the next step was to find out the details of the song, viz know the name of its movie. It turned out to be ‘Agent 009’. Many sources mentioned it as a movie of the year ‘1980’. However this movie is from the year ‘1981’.
Not just that, it turns out that this movie was again released in ‘1983’ with the title ‘Desh Shatru’, replacing the names of the producer-director-story writer of the earlier title ‘Agent 009’.
The movie “Agent 009” was directed by Chaand for ‘S.V.S. Films, Bombay’. And, the revised version ‘Desh Shatru-1983’ had Vijendra Mittal as director.
The star cast of this movie includes Rehana Sultana, Vijendra Mittal, Madhushala, Zareen, Padma Khanna, Bharat Kapoor, Gautam Bhatia, Manhar Desai, Maruti, Jagdish Raj, Mushtaq Merchant, G. Jilani, Vikas Anand, Nalini Singh, Shesh Chand, Suresh Garg, Vinod Kumar, Ramesh Goyal, S.P. Dubey, Manik, Ramkumar, Thapa, Khalil Khan, Sonam Randhawa, Amit Kumar, Ramesh Jindal, Thakurdas and others.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 10.07.1981, and with the new title ‘Desh Shatru’ it was passed by Censor Board on 12.04.1983.
According to HFGK Vol-VI (1981-1985) the revised version mentioned the name of the producer-director-writer of the movie as Vijendra Mittal.
Vijendra Mittal was also the lead actor of this re relaesed movie.
“Agent 009-1981/ Desh Shatru-1983” has four songs penned by four different lyricist viz. Verma Malik, Vishweshwar Sharma, Nandi Khanna and Pankaj Gyani.
Here is the list of songs this movie has.
Sr.No. | Song Title | Lyricist | Singer/s |
---|---|---|---|
01 | He aag lagaa di paani mein | Verma Malik | Kishore Kumar |
02 | Maharaja.., heera hoon kohinoor hoon main | Nandi Khanna | Dilraj Kaur |
03 | Sun mere Sai baba, | Vishweshwar Sharma | Chandrani Mukherjee |
04 | Teri umr ka saal badhha, ye raat matwaali hai … | Pankaj Gyani | Asha Bhonsle |
Today I am presenting a song sung by Asha Bhonsle and composed by Sonik-Omi from this movie.
This song is a nice song to listen to. It seems to be a ‘party’ song , perhaps celebration a birthday as it mentions ‘teri umr ka saal badhha…’…
It is a celebration song, but it also contains words of caution…
Lekin…
Lekin …
Lekin kaali hai (ye raat 🙂 )
… this song must be having some ‘mystery’ surrounding it 🙂 which we are not privy to.
Readers who have watched either of the movies ‘Agent 009/Desh Shatru’ may be able to tell us more …
I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.
Let us enjoy this song sung by Asha Bhonsle and written by Pankaj Gyani.
Music (in ‘Pancham’ style) is by Sonik-Omi.
Only the audio of this song is available.
This movie ‘Agent 009-1981/Desh Shatru-1983’ makes their debut on the blog with this song. Also, I think that the lyricist Pankaj Gyani makes a debut as a lyricist on the blog. In the list of lyricist on the statistics page on the blog we have a name Pankaj only but not Pankaj Gyani.
(Note – HFGK mentions both the movies separately as per their year of release and with above information mentioned).

#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
———————————————————–—-
#Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Lyricist/MD Ravindra Jain-Zid 1976)
—————————————
These days I am looking for missing movies of Lyricist Ravindra Jain (of course he is the music director as well), from the seventies, for some obvious reasons.
Recently I came across one such movie which I am not much aware of and I think I never got to listen to its songs. But, after listening to its songs I find the ‘holi’ song a familiar one and I was also surprised that it has not been posted on the blog so far. (however I guess it must have been sent by our other team members?)
This movie is ‘Zid’ from the year ‘1976’.
“Zid-1976” was directed by Vijay for ‘Prestige Films, Bombay’. It had Sachin, Sarika, Nutan, Om Shivpuri, Rajendra Nath, A.K. Hangal, Anwar Hussain, Madhu Malini, Kiran Seth, Yunus Parvez, Maruti, Urmila Bhatt, Tun Tun, Shivraj, Alankar, Sarita Devi, Raju, Ghosh, Miki, T.P. Jain, Prem Nath, Titoo, Sumit and others.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 21.08.1976.
This movie has five songs written by Ravindra Jain who was also the composer for this movie.
Here is the list of songs this movie has.
Sr.no. | Song Title | Singer/s |
---|---|---|
01 | Ho ho…is mitti ke kan kan ka hai upkaar | Mahendra Kapoor, chorus |
02 | Aa … tere liye maine thaami re maala | Asha Bhonsle, Jaspal Singh |
03 | Holi hai, ho ho … rang le ke deewaane aa gaye | Asha Bhonsle, Jaspal Singh, chorus |
04 | Teri palkon ke taley ye jo deepak hain jaley | Jaspal Singh |
05 | Ho, jab talak dam mein dam, tam lagaate raho | Asha Bhonsle, chorus |
Today I am presenting a song sung by Jaspal Singh from this movie. Regulars on the blog are well aware that I am big fan of Jaspal Singh. His songs from the ‘seventies’ are part of our beautiful memories and nostalgia associated with my growing years (1968-1983).
Lyrics for today’s song are by Ravindra Jain and music is composed by him too.
Today’s song is a birthday song which on screen actor Sachin is singing for Sarika. Also seen in the picturisation of this song are Prem Nath, Nutan, Master Raju and many others.
This song has beautiful lyrics and lovely singing by Jaspal Singh. It has some ‘grey’ shades too and that is something to do with the story of this movie which I am not aware of.
I do not remember to have read about this movie or any discussion about this movie among our friend circle. I think this movie was not a successful one and may have been forgotten easily.
Ravindra Jain’s compositions from the movies ‘Geet Gaata Chal-1975’, ‘Chitchor-1976’, ‘Fakira-1976’, and etc? ( 🙂 ) did feature in the annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala’ of the year ‘1976’ and he ruled the ‘hearts’ of music lovers then.
Let us listen to today’s song now.
With this song the movie ‘Zid-1976’ makes its debut on the blog.
We already have movies with the same title made in ‘1945’ – ‘Zidd’ and in ‘1994’ – ‘Zid’ on the blog. Today’s movie ‘Zid-1976’ made in between these years joins these ‘Zid’ now 🙂

On this blog we often celebrate anniversaries of various artists of Hindi Films and Hindi Film Music. Time to time we also celebrate birthdays of our team members who are also known as ‘Atulites’. So today we are celebrating birthday of two Atulites and one well-wisher of this blog (read as ‘family members of the team members 😊).
This post is to wish Atulites Pradeep Raghunathan ji and Peevesie’s Mom ji a very happy birthday today. On behalf of all team members, I wish them a very happy birthday and many happy returns of the day. Also today is the birthday of my wife. So, we wish her too a very happy birthday and many happy returns of the day 😊 (she also has her ‘hand’ behind me – and she also has her share in my being a successful ‘Atulite’ for the last nine years four months… 😊)
As is customary for us, we will now listen to a song which suits today’s occasion perfectly. This is a ‘birthday celebration song’. It is from the ‘1989’ movie ‘Saaya’. I was not aware either of the song or this movie. I came across this song only a couple of days back (when I was looking for a birthday song).
‘Saaya-1989’ was directed by R. Keshu (I guess he is Keshu Ramsay) for ‘Century Films’. It was produced by Naval Kumar and presented by R.C. Kumar.
It had Shatrughan Sinha, Poonam Dhillon, Danny Denzongpa, with Pinchoo Kapoor, Viju Khote, Beena, Baby Tabassum, supported by Iftekhar, Anjali Sen, Shammi, Sudhir Dalvi, Darshan, Prakash and Kaajal Kiran.
Story and screenplay of this movie was written by Kumar Ramsay. Dialogues for this movie were written by Jagdish Kanwal. Shafi Ur Rahman was associate dialogue writer for this movie.
Editing of this movie was done by Bal Korde.
Lyrics for the songs in this movie were written by Anjaan and music was composed by Bappi Lahiri.
Asha Bhonsle, Nazia Hassan, Zoheb, Uttara Kelkar, and Munna were those whose voices was used for the songs in this movie.
Today’s song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Poonam Dhillon lip-syncs the song on screen. Shatrughan Sinha and Baby Tabassum (whose birthday is being celebrated) are also seen alongwith many others.
Let us now enjoy this beautiful song and wish the birthday boys and birthday girls a very happy birthday today and a healthy and peaceful life ahead …

# Superstar Child Artist – Junior Mehmood # 7
——————————————————–
Today 15th November 2020 is the sixty-fourth birthday of actor Junior Mehmood.
On this occasion here is a ‘birthday’ song which he is performing for other ‘child artists birthday’ in the movie while doing jigs in his own unimitable style.
I had earlier planned to send an older write-up with a song from ‘Bachpan-1969’, which I had sent last year and was not posted. However I am holding it for the future now. Because it is linked with a task now. 😊
Yesterday we celebrated children’s day and enjoyed this song. This song is picturised on various child artists including Junior Mehmood. However as this was his first released movie and he was yet to become a ‘child superstar’ at that time. I did not include this song in this series and rather sent it separately for ‘children’s day’ celebration. I guess the songs from this movie ‘Naunihal-1967’ could be the first instance of Jr Mehmood performing on songs.
Later on, he went on to act in many movies as a child artist and he was very popular among people like me who were born and growing during those years of late sixties and early seventies. He was the most loved child artist of that era.
His acting career continued even as an adult actor. However, he didn’t get the same success and adulation in movies as an adult actor what he received as a ‘child artist’.
As a child artist Junior Mehmood achieved a ‘Superstar’ like status. Many songs were picturised on him wherein he would copy many stars and his guru the famous comedian Mehmood.
So far, we have enjoyed the following six songs in this series;
1) lagey koi lottery koi jackpot lagey
2) Na koi paisa na ilm banaao bambai mein film
4) Birha ki rain sooni sooni sejariya
5) Aisa banoonga actor main yaaron
6) Ham hi jaanen ek torey manwa ki peer
I have marked three more songs of him (brought to my notice by our team members Peevesie’s Mom ji and Prakash ji) for presentation in future posts.
I have mentioned it in one of my earlier post in this series that there could be more songs picturised on him and we will try to bring them here and then compile the list of total songs picturised on him.
Very recently I came across today’s song. This is from the ‘1973’ movie ‘Archana’.
One very popular song from this movie has been posted on the blog on 04.01.2012. I was surprised to see that the post on this popular song has attracted no comments so far.
Perhaps that is why our Atul ji has said this in one of his post here;
“I wonder if someone has ever tried to analyse why people like some songs and not other songs. Why do some songs become timeless classics while others are forgotten after their initial run?”
Coming back to today’s song now let us have the details about this movie in brief.
‘Archana-1973’ was directed by for ‘Vikram Pictures’ Bombay. It had Mala Sinha, Sanjeev Kumar, Snehlata with Jagdeep, Manmohan Krishna, Bobby, Jagridar, V. Gopal, Sulochana, Shabnam, Madhu, Sushila, Shibana and Om Prakash and others.
Jr Mehmood makes a special appearance in this movie.
Story of this movie was written by Prof. Tamhane, and screenplay was written by Madhusudan Kalaelakar.
Dialogues for this movie were written by Anand Romani, editing of this movie was done by Govind Dalwadi.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 1st October’1973.
This movie has six songs written by Hasrat Jaipuri, Indeevar and Neeraj.
Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Mohd Rafi and Manna Dey give their voices to the songs in movie.
Music for this movie was composed by Shankar-Jaikishan. (coincidentally, nowadays I am incidentally coming across many songs of Shankar-Jaikishan some of them heard earlier and some new for me.
Here is the list of these six songs as per HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980);
S.No. | Song Title | Lyricist | Posted on |
---|---|---|---|
01 | Jaise …. preetam se pyaar badhha jaaye | Hasrat Jaipuri | |
02 | Jab ham hain tere saath… janamdin tujhko | Indeevar | |
03 | Jiyaa mein laaga more baan preet ka | Hasrat Jaipuri | |
04 | Tan mann tere rang rangoongee | Neeraj 04.01.2012 | |
05 | Jaane kis roop ki jaadubhari parchhaayi ho | Hasrat Jaipuri | |
06 | Jo dil mein chubha… ab bas mein kahaan | Hasrat Jaipuri/Indeevar |

“Happy New Year 2020” to all associated with this blog!!!
Welcome all to this post of mine which again is appearing after a gap of almost one month. I would like to describe it as ‘after long gap’ because some of the posts that I already sent missed the ‘bus’ and some which I had already planned to send got delayed because of my journey ‘back to India’ and ‘health issues’ which deprived me from “use of Gadgets’ for few days.
May be this ‘No-mobile, TV, Laptop, two-wheeler treatment’ will continue for some more days but I think that will be under some ‘relaxation’.
Today I am presenting herewith a song from the movie ‘Pyaar Ki Pyaas-1961’. It is a ‘birthday song’ and the reason for this ‘special song’ is the celebration of birthday of our beloved ‘Atulites’ – Peevesie’s Mom ji and Pradeep Raghunathan ji.
I take this opportunity to wish both* of them ‘a very very Happy Birthday’ today and a ‘healthy, peaceful and full-musical life’ ahead. 😊 (*and our supporters who also have their birthday today)
Also, I thought this was the right occasion to resume the pending posts and start my ‘new year’ on the blog.
For this post initially I started looking for a ‘party’ song or ‘get together song’ which was also having ‘dosti, yaari, saalgirah, jashn’ etc in it. I had almost finalized two songs from 1985 and one from 1980 and was still listening to one of them when I came across this ‘simple-cute-lovely’ song which I like very much and I think this is the perfect song for today’s occasion. It is a birthday song where children (I guess from the Orphanage) are celebrating birthday of Honey Irani who has been adopted by Nishi and Shrikant.
The song is a ‘children song’, and I think, it doesn’t matter how much we grow by age in our life we never forget our ‘childhood years’ and the ‘celebration of our birthdays’ in those years.
The growing age, in fact, gives us an opportunity to enrich our life with ‘knowledge, experience, and wisdom’ each year and learning and exploring many new things and celebrate life.
And that does not prevent us of a ‘child-like’ celebration and enjoyment on our birthday.
So, let us enjoy the today’s song …
‘Pyaar Ki Pyaas-1961’ was directed by Mahesh Kaul for ‘Anupam Chitra, Bombay’. It was produced by Pt. Mukhram Sharma and Mahesh Kaul.
N.C. Sippy was the Executive Producer of this movie.
The star cast of this movie includes Honey Irani, Nishi, Shrikant, Manmohan Krishna, David, Manorama, Yashodhara Kathju, Lal Bahadur, Gopi Krishna, Kamal Mehra, Indira Bansal, Kathana, Hayat, Taneja and Dulari.
Story of this movie was written by Pt. Mukhram Sharma Editing was done by R.V. Shrikhande.
HFGK Vol-IV (1961-1970) listed Nine songs from this movie which includes one song in two parts. (Few lines from the today’s song is also repeated at the end of the movie which has not been counted as separate part).
The lyrics of all the songs for this movie were written by Bharat Vyas and music was composed by Vasant Desai.
So far, four songs from this movie have been posted on the blog. Today’s song is the fifth song from this movie to appear on the blog.
It is sung by Children and HFGK mentioned this song as ‘in children’s voice’ and the names of the artists have not been mentioned thereof.
Lyrics are by Bharat Vyas and music is composed by Vasant Desai.
(I have not watched this movie so can’t say much about it and its’ songs. I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on the movie and its songs.).
Once again ‘wishing Peevesie’s Mom ji and Pradeep Raghunathan ji a very Happy Birthday and I hope they too will enjoy this song as I did. 😊
Editor note 1– Today also happens to be the birthday of Mrs Sheela, better half of the author of this article. So we extend a happy birthday greetings to her as well.
Editor’s note 2: The song has a main child voice that sounds like Ranu Mukherjee. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify this voice.

Hullo Atuldom
Let me wish a very Happy Deepawali to one and all. Let the festival light up our lives with lots of positivity love and peace. Let the new Samvat bring in prosperity all around. In all this let us try and make the life of everyone around us happy too. Dhanteras, Naraka Chaturdashi and Laxmi Pooja starts the festive week which goes on to Bhai Dooj and ends with Chat Pooja. May there be no issues of weight gain for anyone 😉
Now there are other things that group “Atulites” is celebrating today. One of us is having his birthday. Also, birthday wishes to the daughter of another atulite. God bless them with lots of health and happiness.
A few months back we had a party song for Atulji’s birthday which asked “where’s the party tonight?”; don’t remember the reply. But here is the next party and it is a song on Bhai with Kareena Kapoor Khan in tow and the whole “mohalla” joining in the celebration. As it is the whole country is in festival mood and this song fits in for the occasion.
A confession – I knew the existence of this song which was written by Shabbir Ahmed and composed by Pritam Chakraborty. But I hadn’t heard it completely. Neither in the movie nor on any music channel. As I sat to write it for the post and heard it, I knew this was a song which our birthday boy will love as it underlines his quality of being a great host. Specially the line “aao jahaaz mein ya bharke truck se”; he will definitely say “aaj ki party meri taraf se”. Another thing which I realized is that this is the end credits- song of the 2015 Kareena Kapoor- Salman Khan blockbuster “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” which was directed by Kabir Khan. The song features the entire cast of the movie which includes Nawazuddin Siddique, Sharat Saxena, the child – who played the ‘mute central character’- Harshaali Malhotra, and all the actors who played parents to Kareena and Harshaali. Much like the whole of Atuldom wishing our Atulite and Daughter of the other Atulite on their birthdays. Gang work 😉
I am sure the regular followers of this blog have guessed who is the Atulite I am wishing. He was one of the first follower and farmaish(er) of the blog [sorry for the hinglish word and wrong grammar.] He is a doston ka dost. An occasional NRA – non-resident Atulite. A very gracious host and then he also is a fan of HFM thanks to having spent a small part of his life in that sphere of the country where Hindi films were the only source of entertainment. A Rafi fan who is addicted to Kishore Kumar’s voice too. Fan of Rajesh Khanna who learnt to love Amitabh too. Over the years his love for Sahir Ludhianvi’s work has grown that by no means, means that he doesn’t appreciate other lyricists. He loves to occasionally slip into the Punjabi way of speaking and loves to hear Urdu in songs and poetry. I am speaking of Rajaji. Wishing our dear Rajaji a very Happy Birthday.
I don’t know much about the daughter who has her birthday today. Don’t even know her name but all the best to her too. I hope, she too, will like today’s song. May she have lots of dreams and may they come true.
Happy Deepawali once again to all!!!

Hullo Atuldom
The song with this post is from ‘Kaho Na…Pyar Hai’, a movie that was released on 14th January 2000. It is produced and directed by Rakesh Roshan. This film was planned as the launch vehicle for Hrithik Roshan in Bollywood with Ameesha Patel playing the female lead. This movie had the new comer Hrithik play a double role which he handled well and the movie was liked by the critics and masses. The songs were a rage and the movie a huge hit.
It was a simple love story where a rich girl (Sonia- Ameesha Patel) and poor boy (Rohit- Hrithik) meet and fall in love much against the girl’s father’s liking. But the twist comes when the boy gets killed in a road accident and a sad heroine discovers his look-alike (Raj) in New Zealand where she goes to recover from the shock of her love’s death. As an added bonus the fellow in New Zealand also falls in love with her; only this boy is decently wealthy. So logically her father should have no objection but again there is a twist- on landing in India the police inspectors who caused Rohit’s accident mistake that Raj is Rohit and start a man-hunt for him. In between all this twist and turns it is revealed that all of this was with Sonia’s father’s instructions. Now please don’t scratch your brains in confusion, the movie ends with Raj and Sonia getting together, and her father and his aides being arrested- very simple story.
We have been visiting this movie every time for Hrithik’s birthday, the last time being 2015. So now everyone has got a clue why this song today.😊! Ah yes, a day late, of course. Hrithik turned 44 yesterday. The song is quite appropriate for the occasion – there is a party and cake and lots of friends and song and dance. Lovely song and such innocence on the faces of the lead actors.
This song is my personal favourite specially the point where Hrithik shows the action of blowing the candles. Oooh! The character he plays in the song is of Rohit. He is being helped by his friend Vrajesh Hirjee in getting the attention of Rajesh Tandon (the fair guy next to Ameesha at the beginning of the song), his boss’s son, who owns a restaurant and is looking for a singer and a live band for the hotel. And all these rich boys and gals are so accommodating that they not only allow the gate-crasher to sing but also enjoy themselves along with him. Hrithik bagged the best male-debut actor of that year along with the best male actor award for this movie – a first in the industry.
The choreographer of this song – Farah Khan – also celebrated her 53rd birthday day before yesterday. She is the niece of former child stars Daisy and Honey Irani, daughter of their sister Maneka Irani and stuntman-turned-filmmaker Kamran Khan. She is a fan of Michael Jackson and is a self-trained dancer. She landed an assignment in Mansoor Khan’s ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’ (1992) when Saroj Khan left the project. She has won the Filmfare award of best choreographer six times one of it being for a song from ‘Kaho Na Pyar Hai’ – “Ek Pal Ka Jeena“.
Wishing both Hrithik Roshan and Farah Khan a belated Happy Birthday.

The new year 2018 began yesterday. We started celebrating the birthdays of artists from the first day of the year itself, by discussing a Nana Patekar song. Nana Patekar is one of many artists who chose the new year day to be born. 🙂
As far as our regulars are concerned, they are not too far behind. They are just one day behind Nana Patekar. As many as three of our regulars, namely Pradeep Raghunathan, Peevesie’s mom and Sheela ji(wife of Avinash Scrapwala) are celebrating their birthdays today on 2 january 2018. We in this blog wish them all very happy birthdays.
