Hullo Atuldom

The song with this post is from ‘Kaho Na…Pyar Hai’, a movie that was released on 14th January 2000. It is produced and directed by Rakesh Roshan. This film was planned as the launch vehicle for Hrithik Roshan in Bollywood with Ameesha Patel playing the female lead. This movie had the new comer Hrithik play a double role which he handled well and the movie was liked by the critics and masses. The songs were a rage and the movie a huge hit.

It was a simple love story where a rich girl (Sonia- Ameesha Patel) and poor boy (Rohit- Hrithik) meet and fall in love much against the girl’s father’s liking. But the twist comes when the boy gets killed in a road accident and a sad heroine discovers his look-alike (Raj) in New Zealand where she goes to recover from the shock of her love’s death. As an added bonus the fellow in New Zealand also falls in love with her; only this boy is decently wealthy. So logically her father should have no objection but again there is a twist- on landing in India the police inspectors who caused Rohit’s accident mistake that Raj is Rohit and start a man-hunt for him. In between all this twist and turns it is revealed that all of this was with Sonia’s father’s instructions. Now please don’t scratch your brains in confusion, the movie ends with Raj and Sonia getting together, and her father and his aides being arrested- very simple story.

We have been visiting this movie every time for Hrithik’s birthday, the last time being 2015. So now everyone has got a clue why this song today.😊! Ah yes, a day late, of course. Hrithik turned 44 yesterday. The song is quite appropriate for the occasion – there is a party and cake and lots of friends and song and dance. Lovely song and such innocence on the faces of the lead actors.

This song is my personal favourite specially the point where Hrithik shows the action of blowing the candles. Oooh! The character he plays in the song is of Rohit. He is being helped by his friend Vrajesh Hirjee in getting the attention of Rajesh Tandon (the fair guy next to Ameesha at the beginning of the song), his boss’s son, who owns a restaurant and is looking for a singer and a live band for the hotel. And all these rich boys and gals are so accommodating that they not only allow the gate-crasher to sing but also enjoy themselves along with him. Hrithik bagged the best male-debut actor of that year along with the best male actor award for this movie – a first in the industry.

The choreographer of this song – Farah Khan – also celebrated her 53rd birthday day before yesterday. She is the niece of former child stars Daisy and Honey Irani, daughter of their sister Maneka Irani and stuntman-turned-filmmaker Kamran Khan. She is a fan of Michael Jackson and is a self-trained dancer. She landed an assignment in Mansoor Khan’s ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’ (1992) when Saroj Khan left the project. She has won the Filmfare award of best choreographer six times one of it being for a song from ‘Kaho Na Pyar Hai’ – “Ek Pal Ka Jeena“.

Wishing both Hrithik Roshan and Farah Khan a belated Happy Birthday.

Blog Day : 3455 Post No. : 13857

The new year 2018 began yesterday. We started celebrating the birthdays of artists from the first day of the year itself, by discussing a Nana Patekar song. Nana Patekar is one of many artists who chose the new year day to be born. 🙂

As far as our regulars are concerned, they are not too far behind. They are just one day behind Nana Patekar. As many as three of our regulars, namely Pradeep Raghunathan, Peevesie’s mom and Sheela ji(wife of Avinash Scrapwala) are celebrating their birthdays today on 2 january 2018. We in this blog wish them all very happy birthdays.

We have just the right song available with us to greet them. This song is from “Geet Gaata Chal”(1975).

The songs of this movie, especially its title song used to be a big rage those days. Jaspal Singh made his mark as a playback singer with this movie.

Most songs from this movie were sung by lesser known singers, namely Jaspal Singh, Chandrani Mukherji, Hemlata etc. Songs sung by Jaspal Singh in the movie were the most popular songs. But this movie also had the voices of legendary singers, viz Rafi, Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar utilised once each.

I have not seen the movie but I had listened to its songs. The songs were quite popular and would play on the loudspeakers every where. I still remember those days of 1975 when I would be going on my way from my home towards my school and nearing the railway footoverbridge over Ranchi Railway station when the title song of the movie would be blaring out from a loudspeaker located nearby.

I cannot believe that it was 42 years ago that I used to listen to the songs of “Geet Gaata Chal”(1975) on loudspeaker. That is nearly half a century ago. If I go to the same location now, hoping to relive those days, I am sure that I would feel let down. Most probably that place may have undergone a sea change, with concrete jungle having come up in that place which used to be an open field, fit to be used for playing cricket, among other uses. Even my school (where I used to go) has now been relocated.

The movie had nine songs in it. Six of them, including the duet by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle (Shyam abhimaani o shyaam abhimaani) has been covered in the blog.

The movie had a solo song by Kishore Kumar in it. It was one of the rare occasions where Ravindra Jain used Kishore Kumar’s voice. But he would always make Kishore Kumar’s voice count in his compositions. The most well known Kishore Kumar song composed by Ravindra Jain is the iconic “Chor Machaaye Shor” (1973) song- Le jaayenge le jaayenge dilwaale dulhaniya le jaayenge.

As I have not seen “Geet Gaata Chal”(1975), so I am not sure how various songs in the movie have been used. Lyrics of this Kishore Kumar song were sent to me by Avinash Scrapwala as far back as in 2012. Somehow this song has eluded being covered in the blog. I discover that this song is a “birthday” song. That way it is an appropriate song for the occasion of the birthdays of three of our regulars.

The picturisation shows this song lip synced by Madan Puri who is seen singing this song to celebrate the birthday of Sachin. Those were simple days when mostly children used to get to celebrate their birthdays in real as well as reel lives in India. 🙂

The song is sung by Kishore Kumar and chorus. Ravindra Jain is the lyricist as well as the music director.

HFGK counts this song as one song though this song had two versions. Apart from the well known happy version, this song has a brief sad version of it too.

Here is wishing all our young at heart birthday kids a very happy birthday today.

The small girl in the song with this post celebrates her 52nd birthday today—unbelievable she is so young. The birthday list on our blog says she is 1965 born, also the Filmfare awards list page says she was all of 15 when in 1980 she won the Best Supporting Actress award for her depiction of a rape victim (in ‘Insaaf Ka Taraazu’). She seems to have been around forever. I just do not want to use the phrase ‘past her prime.’ Come to think of it she is younger to the Khans who are ruling the industry these days.

Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday, dear atul-song-a-day blog
Happy  birthday to you

🙂

Yes, it’s that special day of the year again. It’s our blog’s happy happy birthday. It was born on 19th July 2008, so today it completes 9 years. And we, wherever we are in the world, are definitely not going to let the occasion go by without celebration.  Maybe we don’t have cakes and candles, but we have enough blog handles. 🙂 (Ok, admittedly, that was a terrible one!).

Hullo to all in Atuldom

So now we are all busy discussing the pros and cons of the demonetisation on our WhatsApp group. We are also having a fair number of jokes on the subject. But as our dear thandapani mentioned last week when our PM dropped the demonetisation bomb (as I like to call it) I have also decided to wait and watch for the rush at the banks and cash ATMs. At such a time a few songs ran through my mind. Let us have one of them today.

Hullo to all in Atuldom

I thought of putting down a few thoughts; that came to me in the last few days; on record. For one who is constantly Bangalore- Bashing as regards to the infrastructure etc, I must admit that it has given me a few PLUSes. I have been able to go for a few musical shows at some of the lovely Halls that Bangalore has. It all began with a show which was titled “Suno Mere Bandho Re” which paid tribute to S.D. Burman to the last one; about which I cannot stop myself from repeating about- where I saw my all time favourite Basanti. This is probably because of the changed working hours of the family members. I have found a little more free time here than in the period when I was a Mumbai-mother. Again the free time could be due to that fact that I go out very little on Social visits. So all things put together I find at least an hour or two to sit at my Desktop and read, listen to songs etc. This has also been the cause of my associating with the blog and getting to know a whole new set of Human Beings who have interests similar to mine. Of course for this I should whole heartedly Thank my daughter who stumbled on the blog.

Asha ji, one of the leading lady playback singers in Indian cinema, turns 83 today. Seventy of thes 83 years have been spent in an active career, probably the longest such accomplishment by a playback singer. As Sadanand ji indicates in his article (the one before this), he states that she is currently on a concert tour of US. This speaks of the energy and the verve of this personality.

Mohammed Rafi – ‘अ’  से  ‘ह’ तक  (From ‘अ’ to ‘ह’) – 22
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

‘त’
“तुम्हीं से हुई है शुरू और तुम्हीं पे सनम खत्म होगी कहानी हमारी”

What a gem of a delight this song is, from the 1969 film ‘Mera Dost’. As we continue to delve and search, we continue to come across as yet un-posted songs that are simply out of this world. Such wonders will not cease, I am sure for quite some time yet.
