Raja Mehdi Ali Khan joined the Hindi film industry sometime around mid 1940s as a dialogue writer. His first film as a lyricist was Filmistan’s ‘Do Bhai’ (1947) in which he teamed up with S D Burman and wrote lyrics for all the songs. His next two films as a lyricist with S D Burman were ‘Vidya’ (1948) and ‘Kamal Ke Phool’ (1949). Surprisingly after 1949, Raja Mehdi Ali Khan had no opportunity to team up with S D Burman again. Divas of Hindi film music (12)

I know Geeta Dutt through some famous songs of hers in the 50’s which were played on radio and being a fan of S. D. Burman songs, it seems she was here there and everywhere especially in early 50’s. Her connection to Guru Dutt and her troubled life and times, with him and untimely death of both makes them the most written about couple of their era. Even in all these, genuine artistic talent of both is the dominant factor in their image. A strong spiritual or religious guidance could have gone some way in giving both of them the will power to face the issues in life, and motivation to tackle them. The tinsel town is such a place that it is very easy to lose touch with realities and drown in depression and sorrows, which are magnified to impossible levels due to the habits of intoxication. Genuine friends are few and most of the circle are there only forthe good times.
