The 25th of October is an important date for Hindi film music lovers. In fact, not just for them but for lovers of Urdu poetry too. For it is the anniversary of passing away of one of the industry’s foremost lyricists, Sahir Ludhianvi, who was highly regarded not just for lyrics but also for his poetry. In fact it was his poetry that brought him recognition early on – he just extended it to the film industry.

Mahesh Manjrekar, the film and stage actor, producer, director and writer made a successful foray into Hindi film with his directorial venture ‘Vaastav’ (1999). The film was a box office hit and became a turning point in the acting carreer of the lead actor Sanjay Dutt.

While discussing lori (lullaby) songs, I have mentioned that most lullabies are sung by female singers and picturised on actresses playing mother to some tiny tot. But it does not mean that there have not been lories sung by male singers. There may be just a few such songs but they are there.
