‘Pyaar Kaa Taraana’ (1993) was produced by Dev Anand and M Harwani under the joint banner of Navketan Films and Sunico Productions, Denmark. The film was directed by Dev Anand who also wrote the story, screenplay and dialogues. The cast included Manu Gargi, Anita Ayub and Mink in main roles, supported by Akshay Anand, Maja Riis (Swedish), Reema Lagoo, Sulabha Arya, Dr. Shreeram Lagoo, Rakesh Pandey, Parikshit Sahni, Sushma Seth, Girija Shankar, Asha Sharma etc. Probably, this was the only Dev Anand directed film in which he did not act. And this was the only film which he produced in partnership with another producer.

‘Shubh Kaamna’ (1983) was produced by VV Sastry and was directed by K Viswanath. The cast included Rakesh Roshan, Rati Agnihotri, Utpal Dutt, Sudhakar, Kiran Vairale, Dinesh Thakur, Asrani, Sujit Kumar, Satyen Kappu, Gireesh, Paintal, Shammi, Geetha, Ashalata, Renuka etc. Vinod Mehra and Om Prakash made special appearances in the film. The film was a remake of director, K Vishwanath’s Telugu film, ‘Subhalekha’ (1982).

Javed Akhtar, who started his film career as a screen play writer with Salim Khan, came from a family of Poets. His father Jan Nisar Akhtar was an Urdu poet and lyricist while his grandfather and his great grandfather’s elder brother were also poets.

“Andhaa Kanoon” (1983) was a movie that was produced by A. Purnachandra Rao & directed by T. Rama Rao. Its music was composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal and lyricist was Anand Bakshi. Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle, S.P. Balasubramaniam & Baby Rajeshwari were the playback singer used for the eight songs of the film of which one song Rote rote hansna seekho hanste hanste ronaa was a multi-part song; of which Kishore Kumar had a happy & sad version as also Baby Rajeshwari who got to sing a few lines of the song.

Hullo Atuldom

“Andaaz Apna Apna” which released in November 1994 was a comedy, laugh riot, and a ‘comedy of errors’ which had nothing to do with the original ‘comedy of errors’. I am a huge fan of this movie and so is every member of my family. There is always a smile playing on the lips, waiting to turn into a burst of laughter, whenever we discover the movie on any channel. The comedy was in the scenes and dialogues. The movie had stand-out characters that have stayed in public memory after all the intervening 27 years.
