on:I am familiar with a movie called “Kathputli”(1957). But it turns out that there was another movie of the same name in 1971 too.
“Kathputli” (1971) was a Dynamo International Production. It was produced and directed by Brij. The movie had Jeetendra, Mumtaz, Mallika, Helen, Pran, Jalal Agha, Agha, Manmohan, Leela Mishra, Ashachandra, Dilip Dutt, Fazlu, Master Bhagwan, Kumud Tripathi, Harbans Darshan, M.Arora, Praveen Paul, Rajrani, Kundan, Radheshyam, Jerry etc in it.

on:Today (30 june) is the birth anniversary of Kalyanji, of the Kalyanji Anandji fame. Kalyanji Anandji were one of the most successful music directors from 1950s till 1970s. Many of their songs have gone on to become immortal. This blog has as many as 255 songs composed by them as of now.

Enjoying the film music now in its ninth decade, we are mostly familiar with all the variations, adaptations, improvisations, and of course even outright copying of music items across films, across music directors and across time. A very interesting adaptation / variation to the Hindi film song is a parody. A well known song from an earlier film is reused in a new film, generally keeping intact the melody and the tune, but the words are changed for a comical effect, mostly. We are all familiar with parodies, and I am sure we can surely list a few at the drop of a hat.

And so, yesterday as I was conversing back and forth with Harish ji Raghuvanshi (resident of Surat, compiler of the ‘Mukesh Geet Kosh’) regarding information on the lyricist SH Behari, we started to discuss the general topic of hugely talented lyricists that spent a very small time in the industry, contributed a small number of very wonderful songs and then somehow did not work anymore for Hindi films. Their filmi careers are lost under obscurity.
