#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (A tribute to Ravindra Jain)
——————————————-—————————————

Today 28th February’2023 is the seventy-ninth birth anniversary of music-director, lyricist Ravindra Jain (28 February 1944 – 9 October 2015).

For this occasion, I had selected a song from a lesser known movie, but since links of this song are not available on internet it needed to be uploaded by me. However due a sudden development I had to travel to Nagpur for a visit to meet relatives there. After reaching here at Nagpur I didn’t get enough time to upload this song. Moreover this place where I will be staying next for about a week or so, is not in the city but nearer to the city and here there is some connectivity problem.
(The internet speed is slow here). But the musical journey will be continuing :),
I do not want to miss this opportunity of presenting a song from the ‘seventies’ particularly. 🙂

So, I had to look for another song on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Ravindra Jain. Today I am presenting a song composed by him instead of a song written and composed by him.

This song is from the ‘1977’ movie ‘Raam Bharose’.

‘Raam Bharose-1977’ was directed by Anand Sagar for ‘Sagar Art (International) Films, Bombay’ and Ramanand Sagar. It was produced by Subhash Sagar.

Star cast of this movie includes Randhir Kapoor, Rekha, Amjad Khan, Dara Singh, Keshto Mukherjee, Kanan Kaushal, Madan Puri, Nazir Hussain and Sujit Kumar. It also had Raza Murad, Tom Alter, Shailesh Kumar, Jagirdar, Jagdish Raj, Chaman Puri, Master Baboo, Javed Khan, Shiv Raj, Sole, Shahid Bijnori, Ram Murthy, Deepak Raj and Shetty.

Editing for this movie was done by Lachmandass. Dialogues of this movie were written by (Late) Krishan Chander. This movie was written by Moti Sagar.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 21.04.1977.

There were six songs in this movie composed by Ravindra Jain. Hasrat Jaipuri, Ravindra Jain, Tajdar Taj and Dev Kohli were the lyricist for this movie.
Asha Bhonsle, Narinder Chanchal, Kishore Kumar and Mohd Rafi gave their voices to the songs of this movie.

This song is sung by Narinder Chanchal. It is picturised as a background song. In the video of the song we can see Rekha and Randhir Kapoor where Randhir Kapoor is lying on a bed in a hospital. From the lyrics of the song I guess that Rekha has some other plans for Randhir Kapoor, may be giving a wrong injection to him (she is in the get-up of a ‘nurse’) which could be under pressure of Madan Puri, Jeevan, and Tom Alter as shown in the video.

I would request readers who have watched this movie to throw more light on the context and picturisation of this song.

Lyrics for the song are by Tajdar Taj and as mentioned above music is composed by Ravindra Jain.

Let us listen to this wonderful composition in the ‘special voice’ of Narinder Chanchal and pay our tributes to Ravindra Jain.

The lyrics noted are as per the audio of this song available which seems to be the full song whereas the video available is partial(only shows the second stanza of the song).

5337 Post No. : 17503 Movie Count :

Amritsar born Canadian Indian, Deepa Mehta has been known for making feature films on social issues. Her most passionate film making project has been the ‘Element Trilogy’ – ‘Fire’ (1996), ‘1947 Earth’ (1998) and ‘Water’ (2005) for which she had received critical acclaim worldwide and also won her many awards. The themes of her films are progressive for some and controversial for others. So, controversies surrounded her most of the time when film’s shooting was to commence or at the time of the release of the films.

I have not yet watched ‘Fire’ (1996) and ‘1947 Earth’ (1998). But I have watched ‘Water’ (2005) for which there were a lot of controversies as soon as the film’s unit landed in Varanasi for shooting in 2000. I remember to have read the news in those days that film’s set in Varanasi was destroyed by the miscreants even though the film units had received approvals from both the Central and State governments for shooting. There was also the death threat to Deepa Mehta. She cancelled the shooting of the film and went back to her home city, Toronto.

After waiting for about 4 years, Deepa Mehta shifted her shooting location from Varanasi to Sri Lanka in 2004. The art director created a set of Varanasi with its ghats and ashrams at the shore of Bolgoda Lake, near Colombo. The inordinate delay in resumption of shooting resulted in taking a new set of actors including those from Sri Lanka. Earlier actors included Shabana Azmi, Nandita Das and Akshay Kumar. They were replaced by Seema Biswas, Lisa Ray, and John Abraham respectively. The role of 8-year young widow, one of the main actors was performed by Sarala Kariyawasam, a class 7th student from Galle, Sri Lanka.

‘Water’ (2005) takes the film audience back to 1938 when the widowed women (child, young or even old) were shifted to shelter homes (ashram) specially created for them. The film brings to the notice of the modern society the poverty, deprivation and exploitation of widows as prevailed in pre-independent India. This practice is not completely eradicated in some places in the post-independent India.

The film was produced by Deepa Mehta’s Canada based home production company, David Hamilton Production. The star cast included John Abraham, Lisa Ray, Seema Biswas, Sarala Kariyawasam, Manorama, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Raghuveer Yadav, Vinay Pathak, Vidula Javalgekar Waheeda Rehman (special appearance), Garson D’Cunha etc. The gist of the film’s story is as under:

Chuyia (Sarala), the 8-year old widow is shifted to a ashram in Varanasi after the death of her husband. It is a traumatic experience for her to be separated from the parents in such a young age and live in a state of poverty among the widows. But her arrival in the ashram results in an atmosphere of activities in otherwise quiet life. Her energetic activities in the ashram get her noticed from two other widows – a young Kalyani (Lisa Ray) and a middle-aged Shakuntala (Seema Biswas). They become the protector of Chuyia.

Kalyani had become widow at age of 7 and is the most beautiful of the widows in the Ashram. Madhumati (Manorama), the ‘boss’ of the ashram has allowed Kalyani to grow her hairs because Madhumati has an arrangement with the pimp Gulabi (Raghuvir Yadav) to take Kalyani to wealthy clients, as a source of income for the ashram.

Shakuntala is only among the widows who can read and write. She is sharp and short tempered. Hence, Madhumati, despite being a ‘boss’ of the ashram, avoids bossing her. Shakuntala is God fearing and follow the dictates of the widowhood as explained to her by a priest (Kulbhushan Kharbanda). At the same time, she feels unjust to be a widow. When she asks the priest whether there is any other way to avoid the stigma of being widow, he says that there is a law which now allows widows to remarry. She is surprised as to why this was not brought to their notice. The priest cooly says that “we do not always follow the law when it is inconvenient”.

Narayan (John Abraham) returns to his home in Varanasi after becoming a lawyer in Kolkata. He has become the follower of Mahatma Gandhi who has been campaigning, among other things, for breaking social and religious barriers for widow remarriage. Narayan’s father, Dwarkanath (Gerson D’Cunha) has an aristocratic lifestyle and is liberal in his views. His mother (Waheeda Rehman) on the other hand is conservative and tradition bound.

One day Chuyia, while trying to catch her puppy who ran away from her, gets lost on her way back to ashram. She meets Narayan who drops her on the doorstep of Kalyani’s room in the ashram. He is shocked to see a young Kalyani who will be spending rest of her life in austerity and deprived of her rights. Narayan wants to marry Kalyani but she is not ready because she is God-fearing and tradition bound. With much persuasion by Narayan, Kalyani agrees to the marriage. Despite facing obstacles from Madhumati, Kalyani reaches the shore of River Ganga where Narayan is waiting to take her to his house across the river to meet his parents. When Kalyani sees the house from the boat, she at once tells Narayan to turn the boat back as she gets to know that Narayan’s father is also one of Madhumati’s clients on whom she was forced upon.

Kalyani returns to ashram and in the night, she commits suicide by drowning herself in the River Ganga. Narayan is shocked to know his father’s views on widows despite being liberal in views. He blames his father for Kalyani’s tragic end. He leaves the house to join Mahatma Gandhi. He meets Shankutala on the way at the shore of River Ganga. Both are at loss for words after the death of Kalyani. At last, Shakuntala asked Narayan a pertinent question. ‘Why are widows sent to ashram’? Narayan gives a practical explanation for this ancient practice: “One less mouth to feed, four less saris in a year, and a free corner in the house. Disguised as customs and traditions, it’s just about money”.

In the absence of Kalyani, Madhumati sends Chuyia as a replacement for the client in the guise of telling her that she is going back to her own house. When Shakuntala comes to know about this, she rushes to rescue Chuyia only to know that she was too late. She takes the traumatized Chuyia in her arms, confused as to what to do now to make her safe from Madhumati. She learns that Mahatma Gandhi would be arriving at the railway station to proceed to Allahabad. She rushes to the railway station. In the midst of crowded platform, Shakuntala runs to hand over Chuyia to any one of the passengers in the already slow moving train, pleading to take her with them. She finds to her surprise that it is Narayan who takes Chuyia from her in the overcrowded train.

There are some poignant moments in the film. For instance, in a few minutes after the opening scene, Chuyia who is in her deep sleep in the house is woken up by her father to tell her that her husband is no more, and she has become a widow now. She asks her father innocently “how long, father”? In one scene, she innocently asks ‘is there man-widow ashram also’? In spite of some poignant moments in the film, Deepa Mehta has successfully avoided the film turning into an intense melodrama. The subtle message from the film is that even if one goes by customs and traditions of widowhood, the ashram is at the shore of River Ganga whose water is the symbol of purification. The widows in the ashram have to remain self-restrained and chaste. But in reality, ashram has become a place for exploitation of widows. The other message is that widows have rights as a human beings.

‘Water’ (2005) became the official Oscar entry from Canada which made into the final five in the category of the best foreign language films. The film could be released in India only in 2007 which received lukewarm responses from the film audience. The film was meant for the niche audience most of whom may have probably watched the film on DVD released in 2005.

‘Water’ (2005) had 6 songs of which 5 songs were written by Sukhwinder Singh and one was the devotional song of Narsinh Mehta. A R Rahman has composed all the songs in raagdari music with some shades of folk music. In a long interview with Arjit Singh about Hindi film music, A R Rahman had said that ‘Water’ (2005) has been his most satisfying work as a music director. He said that he had composed all the six songs before the film’s shooting was stalled in 2000.

I am presenting the first song, ‘naina neer bahaaye’ from the film to appear on the Blog. The song is written by Sukhwinder Singh and is rendered by Sadhana Sargam. In the interview quoted above, A R Rahman revealed that he got inspired from a one-minute advertisement jingle in Hindi rendered by Kavita Krishnamurthy. Rahman could not recall the name of the composer of the jingle but remembered him as one of the most talented composers. He further said that he composed the tune of the song based on Raag Bhatiyari (the same raag which was used in the jingle).

When my extensive surfing on the internet did not get me anywhere about the jingle referred to by A R Rahman, a comment on the video clip of the song under discussion led me to this jingle:

purab se surya uga phaila ujiyaara
jaage har disha disha jaaga jag saara
.

The video clip of the jingle is here.

This jingle was composed by Ashok Patki, the music director of Marathi films, plays and T V Serials. I have watched this advertisement many times on Doordarshan in early 90s. Kavita Krishnamurthy revealed in an interview that when she met A R Rahman for the first time for a song recording, he specifically pointed out this jingle and appreciated it for its musical composition. This indicates that this jingle remained in the mind of A R Rahman for a long time.

In the film, only the mukhda of the song is picturised. The background of the song is that after meeting Narayan who clears Kalyani’s misconception about widow remarriage, she decides to get married with him. This news gets leaked to Madhumati, the ‘boss’ of the ashram who cuts Kalyani’s hair and locks her in the room. The mukhda of the song plays in the background as she prays to Lord Krishna. The Director has compared Kalyani’s situation as that of Meerabai whose desire was to be with Giridhar despite many obstacles. Here Kalyani believes that her Giridhar (Narayan) would come and rescue her.

The song under discussion is pure Hindustani classical music, which is beautifully rendered by Sadhana Sargam, bringing out the underlying intense pathos. Unfortunately, this song ( as also other songs from the film) remained on the back burner due to delay in film’s released in India and after the release, its quick eclipse from the theatres.

Mukesh and his Composers – 23

This post is dedicated to Shri Harish Raghuwanshi ji of Surat for his pioneering work in collating songs and providing invaluable information on films and artists.

Mukesh’s collaboration with composer Lachhiram hardly rings any bell and rightly so as “they never worked in any film”.

With some surfing on the net, one comes across two devotional NFS that Mukesh sang for him. With more rigorous search one can find references of some rare and untraceable couplet that Mukesh sang in Lachhiram’s last film Main Suhangan Hoon released in 1964.

Arguably, this was the last as well as the most famous film that he scored music for. All available compilations of this film’s songs on the net and elsewhere rightly contain 7 songs. In fact, this film is also yipped on this blog with all the 7 songs duly represented.

And this is where the work of Harish ji comes into picture. In his latest version of Mukesh Geetkosh, there is no reference to this film in the index. However, under 1964 songs, there is a special mention that Mukesh rendered a short 33 second couplet in this film.

Thus, with all eagerness, I started to “watch” the film on youtube where it is fortunately uploaded. Apparently, the credit titles do not reflect Mukesh’s name under playback singers. But then a little over half an hour into the movie, there is unmistakable voice of Mukesh for the said couplet.

The first thought that came to my mind on hearing the 33 second rendering was to thank Harish ji for all the painstaking efforts that he has taken to compile almost everything that Mukesh ever sang.

Music lovers and especially Mukesh fans will always remain indebted to Harish ji.

A short table of the two NFS and this couplet under consideration are presented in the table below as far as the work of Lachhiram and Mukesh is concerned. Needless to say, even the two NFS are yet to be covered on the blog.

S. No Name of the song Movie (Year of release) Lyricist
1 Chhod jhamela jhoote jag ka Devotional NFS Madhukar Rajasthani
2 Ram kare so hoy re manvaa Devotional NFS Madhukar Rajasthani
3 Bigadi main koi Main Suhagan Hoon (1964) Unknown

One can only guess as to why the composer who never used Mukesh for his work, thought of including his voice for such short snippet in the film. One could be that during the recording of these two NFS, the composer must have felt that a short song be introduced at this juncture of the film to depict the suffering and state of mind of the actor. And he must have felt that the voice of Mukesh could do justice to the scenes.
Anyway, these are just presumptions, and the real reasons may never be known.

I have requested multiple tasks to our Sudhir ji, including attributing the lyrics, cutting of the snippet from the film and uploading, lyrics etc. I thank him in advance for all his help in completing this post.

I have not dwelled much into the life and works of Lachhiram. However, plenty of information on Lachchiram can be found on AK ji’s blog.

song-Bigdi mein koi (Main Suhaagan Hoon)(1964) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics-Unknown, MD-Pt Lachchiram

Bigdi mein koi

After reaching the round figures of the milestones, for me, the next step or next post in the case of this blog is always an exciting and thrilling occasion. After all it sets the tone for the next milestone… the next target…

For me, this is like starting from the scratch always … a new beginning … a new start … journey afresh …

For this post I was particularly looking for a song which was philosophical as well as of ‘cheerful mood’.

I checked for the songs already lying ready with us which also has many ‘rail’ songs but they did not fit this occasion.

Finally I decided to go with this wonder Pancham composition which has that music and the words taking you into the ‘world of your dreams’. Words and music that take you far away …. ( I had marked many such Pancham compositions for another topic of such special Pancham songs … but then that will be coming in other post/s 🙂 ).

Let us now come back to the movie of today’s song … It is from the ‘1977’ movie ‘Jeewan Mukt’.

‘Jeewan Mukt-1977’ was directed by Sudhendu Roy for S.R. Productions, Bombay.

It had Lakshmi, Parikshit Sahni, Girish Karnad, Mala Jaggi, Sudha Shivpuri, Pawan Dutt, Meena Rai, Master Gautam, Ashok Razdan, Dhanna, Asha Lata, Suresh Oberoi, Dinshaw Dazi, Shrimati Mistri and others.

As per HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980) this movie had total four songs, all solo songs sung by Asha Bhonsle.
Lyricist Yogesh wrote the songs for this movie and music was composed by R.D. Burman.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 08.08.1977.

(Note- I had come across a song sung by Kishore Kumar and it is uploaded as an ‘unreleased song from this movie- ‘Jeewan Mukt’, which needs to be checked and confirmed. HFGK doesn’t mention about this song).
Today’s song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is lip synced on screen by Lakshmi. A child, Master Gautam (I guess), is also visible in the picturisation.

The song is picturised on a beautiful outdoor location/s.

This song is the second song from this lesser known movie ‘Jeewan Mukt’.

Let us enjoy this lesser known song….

And let us set out on the journey looking forward to reach 20K 🙂 as early as possible !!!

28 january 2023 saw song post number 17400 appearing on the blog. Today (25 february 2023) finds us reaching song post number 17500 on the blog.

Yes, this post is the 175th century post for the blog. It has come in 28 days, which equals the number of days taken for the previous century. So this year 2023 has seen two centuries, both clocked in 28 days apiece. It is a vast improvement over the average days taken for the blog centuries of last few years. We are still far off from the all time record of a century in 11 days (achieved in 2011) but things are looking up as far as Blog daily strike rate is concerned.

The blog century posts now a days are decided at the last moment. The previous century post number 17400 was decided at the last moment, on the very day on which the song was covered. This song post number 17500 is no different.

Song post number 17400 was a duet song. So is the case for this song post number 17500. But that is the only similarity between the two century posts.

Post number 17400 was a duet sung by two obscure singers. That was the only duet sung by the singers in Hindi movies. The singers in the duet song of this post number 17500 are both legends in Hindi playback singing.

This song under discussion in this post is sung by Rafi and Shamshad Begam.

Why them and no one else ? There are good reasons for that.

As things stand in HFM, there have been only eight pair of singers in the Golden era of HFM who have sung over hundred duets. Seven pair of such singers have already completed their centuries in the blog. Rafi and Shamshad Begam were the only pair who had not reached their century of duet songs in the blog. With this post, they join the list and the list gets completed.

Here is the list of centurion duet singers in HFM during the golden era of HFM :-

Singing pair Duet Songs in the blog Remarks
Rafi-Asha Bhonsle 561 This pair holds the Record for highest number of duet songs
Rafi-Lata 349 Second highest number of duets. Almost all their duets covered in the blog
Kishore Kumar-Asha Bhonsle 268
Kishore Kumar-Lata 222
Mukesh-Lata 143
Rafi-Geeta Dutt 113
Rafi-Suman Kalyanpur 108
Shamshad Begam-Rafi 100 They reach 100 duets with this post

If one feels that there may be other pairs who may join the list in future, that is not the case. Among singers who were active during the golden era, the next duo with highest number of duets is Manna Dey-Lata Mangeshkar with 75. This figure represents their sum total of duets sung in HFM. All of them are already represented in the blog ! Likewise all duets sung by Talat Mehmood-Lata Mangeshkar (61) are already represented in the blog.

The song under discussion is from an obscure movie called “Noor e Yaman”(1956) also alternatively titled “Hatimtai Ka Beta”. This C grade movie was directed by Akkoo. The movie had Chitra, Juliaan, Ridkoo, Krishna Kumari, Heera Saawant, Sardar Mansoor, Ismail, Munshi Munakka, Bismillah, Mitthoo Mian, M. K. Hasan, Mohammed Ali, Mohammed Sandow, Abdulla, Korega, Yadav, Sukumar, Ratan Kumar, Raju, Sattar, Maqbool, Yusuf Azad Qawwal, Samar Roy, Habeeb, Shaikh Hassan, Babu Raaje, Adeeb, Wazir Mohammed Khan etc in it.

The movie had nine songs in it. They were sung by five singers, viz Shewan Rizvi, Yusuf Azad Qawwal, Shamshad Begum, Mohammad Rafi and Asha Bhosle. These nine songs were penned by three lyricists viz Akhtar Romani, Sartaj Romani and Raja Mehndi Ali Khan.

The movie is making its debut in the blog with this song. This movie becomes the 110th movie of 1956 to find representation in the blog. The song is sung by Rafi and Shamshad Begam. Raja Mehdi Ali Khan is the lyricist. Bulo C Rani is the music director.

This song, an obscure song from an obscure movie, sounds like a forgotten gem. It is a song that deserves to be better known among music lovers.

Another blog century achieved. Time to take a fresh guard.

I take this opportunity to thank one and all who are fuelling the musical bandwagon in various ways and are helping it to reach newer and newer destinations with each passing days. May this bandwagon notch many more centuries and see many more interesting records en route.

Song-Jab teri nazar ke teer chale (Noor e Yaman)aka Hatimtai Ka Beta(1956) Singers-Rafi, Shamshad Begam, Lyrics-Raja Mehdi Ali Khan, MD-Bulo C Rani

Lyrics

awaaron se ghamkhaaron se banjaaron se lakadhaaron se
lakadhaa aa aa aa aaro se
na jaane wo kidhar gaye

Hullo Atuldom

India is celebrating the 75th year of its Independence. Mumbai based Rajshri productions and distribution company is also celebrating its 75th year.

I am sure we have many knowledgeable followers in the blog who will give us information on how Rajshri took to making critically acclaimed films that were also commercially successful. Most of their films had stories that stressed on values, family ties, unity etc. and provided opportunity for family outings. I recall a cinema hall in Chembur, Mumbai was decked up, almost like a wedding hall, when Rajshri’s ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ was released and all of the outfits worn by its characters became a rage at that time.

Rajshri Productions have been instrumental in giving life to careers of many actors, introducing new faces on the silver screen, etc. Sachin (Pilgaonkar), Sarika, (Master) Satyajit, Junior Mehmood, had their first adult roles in films made by Rajshri Productions. Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bhadhuri, Ranjeeta, Amol Palekar, Farida Jalal, Salman Khan, Anupam Kher and numerous other actors have featured in Rajshri films in the initial part of their career. There will be many many more artists who have been associated with this film making house at various times and in various capacities.

There is one actor though, I don’t recall, seeing in a Rajshri movie – Danny. The handsome actor from Sikkim who has been actively entertaining his fans since 1971, in Hindi, Bengali, Nepali and even a Tamil film. He has sung a few songs too and the first time was under S. D. Burman’s baton in “Ye Gulistaan Humara” alongside Lata Mangeshkar (mera-naam-yaao-mere-paas-aao/) an event that he has said was ‘a dream come true.’ It seems that it was a daring experiment that Burman dada conducted and he asked Danny to sing with a comic effect while maintaining melody. He has shared the recording room with Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, and Mohd. Rafi.

He was named Tshering Phintso Denzongpa at birth and on a recommendation from his then-classmate, at FTII, Jaya Bhadhuri he changed his name to a simpler sounding ‘Danny’. But his son has not done any such thing – he made a debut in the 2021 released, ‘Squad’ as Rinzing Denzongpa.
Danny has played a large variety of characters – positive, negative and the in-betweens too. But gave up a chance to play Gabbar Singh in Ramesh Sippy’s ‘Sholay’ as the dates were clashing with Feroz Khan’s ‘Dharmatma’. He is a two-time winner of the Filmfare award for Best supporting actor- for ‘Sanam Bewafaa’ in 1992 and ‘Khuda Gawah’ in 1993.

My husband is a Danny-fan. He loves the way he has maintained himself and his age is not visible in his demeanour. He is turning 75 today.

The last film of Danny that I saw in a cinema hall was “Uunchai” that released on 11th November 2022. (I saw it on 12th, night show). I discovered the movie rather by accident. I was seeing some video on youtube when this video popped up.

My first reaction was – “wow!! what a cast.” Amitabh Bachchan & Danny together on-screen again….. after 18 years; their last film together came in 2004 “Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo”.

The last time Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher & Danny were in a film together was Mukul Anand’s ‘Hum’ (1991). And the tadka on all of this is it was a Rajshri Film. So we were guaranteed of wholesome entertainment (it was good entertainment). It brought together the stalwarts as friends who are goaded to undertake a trek to the Base Camp of Mount Everest. I forgot to mention that Boman Irani played the fourth friend. Bhupen (played by Danny) makes arrangements for the trek to which Amit (Amitabh Bachchan retained his original name Amit Shrivastav) agrees. He manages to convince Boman Irani and Anupam Kher too, but Bhupen dies before the friends (of a lifetime) can embark on the trip. The remaining three undertake the trek in the process they battle their physical limitations, and discover what true freedom is. Parineeti Chopra played their guide in the trek, Sarika (returning to Rajshri films after years) played Bhupen’s lost love who joins the trio on the trek. Neena Gupta played Boman Irani’s wife, Nafisa Ali was Amitabh Bachchan’s wife (in a guest appearance).

“Uunchai” was a visual treat. And as I was seeing the film I kept thinking of our Sadanand Kamath ji and his passion for trekking.

Today’s song doesn’t feature the magnificent Himalayas though it is a major part of the film. Today’s song happens in the film as the friends get together to celebrate their friend Bhupen’s (Danny) birthday. I had Goosebumps as I saw the song in the film. The singer for this song NaKash Aziz with Rajiv Sundaresan, Suhas Sawant, and Arun Kamath being the backing vocals. The song was written by Irshad Kamil and Amit Trivedi was the music director.

Song-Keti ko keti ko (Uunchai)(2022) Singers- NaKash Aziz, Rajiv Sundaresan, Suhas Sawant, Arun Kamath, Lyrics-Irshad Kamil, MD-Amit Trivedi

#the Decade of Sixties – 1961 – 1970 #
————————————————————————

I had mentioned it in my earlier posts that many songs which unavailable on the internet in the past have become available in recent years. We sincerely hope that this trend continues keep. That gives us opportunities to bring all those gems of the yesteryears here on the blog.

Take for instance the movie ‘Veer Bajrang-1966’.

The first song from this movie was posted on the blog on 08.01.2016. It was presented by our Respected Shri Sudhir ji and the song was ‘meri aankhadiyon mein hai jo’. This film from the ‘sixties’ was till then considered as ‘lost’ and its songs were also considered as unavailable. However Sudhir ji, after lot of efforts got the above song and it was posted on the blog. I would request interested readers to read this article for the interesting story behind the posting of this ‘first song’ from ‘Veer Bajrang’ on the blog.

(During the search for other songs from this movie I noticed that one more song from this movie has been uploaded by Sudhir ji which, I guess, must have been waiting for his already ‘drafted but incomplete’ write-up planned for posting in future).

Today, another song from the movie is being presented as the second song to be posted on the blog.

“Veer Bajrang-1966” was directed by Manibhai Vyas for ‘People Pictures’. It had Jayshree Gadkar, S.N. Tripathi, Saudagar Singh, Indira Bansal, Babu Raje, Kiran Gunjal, Vishv Mehra, Shri Bhagwan, Sushma, Poonam Kapoor, Jagdish Kamal, Hari Shukla, Shyam, Karnail Singh, Pal, Kabootar, Dinesh, Ajit Soni, Ramesh, Feroz Kapoor, Pushpa, Meena, Zeenat, Sohanlal, Jeevankala, Baby Yamini Desai, Master Ratan and others.

As mentioned in HFGK Vol-IV (1961-1970) this movie has seven songs written by Kavi Pradeep and their music was composed by Shivram.

The list of singers includes Asha Bhonsle, Mahendra Kapoor, Usha Timothi and Shivram himself as playback singers for this movie.

Today’s song is sung by Usha Timothi. HFGK mentions thestarting lines of this song as ‘param prataapi apne prabhu ka …’ and then ‘mere liye saari duniya paraayee’…

However in the audio link available we have the song starting with ‘tan ki nagari, man ka mandir’…

I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.

Let us listen to this song which is the second song from ‘Veer Bajrang-1966’ on the blog…
