# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Actress Rameshwari’s Birthday)
——————————————-——————————
Today 6th January is the birthday of actress Rameshwari or Talluri Rameshwari.
She made her debut in Hindi movies with ‘Dulhan Wahi Jo Piyar Man Bhaaye-1977’.
Starting from a humble beginning in a ‘middle class family’ and making to films was an exciting journey for her and it just happened that what she dreamed keep coming her way and in spite of her ‘middle class environment’ at home she ended up in making a career in films. Though she did not do many films later after getting married and having children.
Here is an interesting article about her and her journey into the films which I come across during the preparation of this post. I would request interested readers to go through this detailed article to read about Rameshwari and her experiences while working in the movies.
For today’s presentation I have selected a song from the movie “Saajan Mere Main Saajan Ki”(1980).
“Saajan Mere Main Saajan Ki” was directed by Hiren Nag for ‘Ranglok Films, Bombay. It had Ashok Kumar, Rameshwari, Raj Kiran, Shashikala, Madan Puri, Dina Pathak, Sundar, Raj Babbar, Tun Tun and others.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 24.10.1980.
“Saajan Mere Main Saajan Ki” has five songs all written by Ravindra Jain. He also composed the music for this movie.
Here is the list of songs this movie has.
SNo | Song Title | Singer/s | Posted On |
---|---|---|---|
01 | Ek chidiya bina par ki | Hemlata, Minoo Purushottam, Chetan | |
02 | Saajan mere main saajan ki | Hemlata | |
03 | Jahaan kaamnaa ka… | Mohd Rafi | |
04 | Na jaane aise ho gaya kaise | Yesudas, Hemlata | |
05 | Hi honey hi hi honey | Manna Dey, Dilraj Kaur, chorus | 13.10.2017 |
As can be seen from the above table only one song from this movie has been posted on the blog. That song was posted on 13.10.2017.
Today’s song is the second song from this movie to be posted on the blog today.
It is sung by Hemlata and it is picturised on Rameshwari. Raj Kiran and others can also be seen in the picturisation.
Let us listen to today’s song, which is the title song of the movie, and wish Rameshwari a very happy birthday and a happy, healthy, and peaceful life ahead…

Today 9th Oct’2020 is the sixth Remembrance Day of music director, lyricist and singer Ravindra Jain. He passed away on 9th Oct’2015 at the age of 71 yrs (born on 28th February’1944).
On this occasion as a tribute to him here is a song from the ‘1982’ movie ‘Bhaagya’ which is composed as well as written by him.
‘Bhaagya-1982’ was directed by Naval Kishore for ‘Baba Movietone, Bombay’. It was produced by Ravindranath Dasgupta.
It had Vinay Kumar, Meera, Sushma Verma, A.K. Hangal, Sulochana, Bhagwan Dada, Birbal, Chandrashekhar, Jagdeep, Keshto Mukherjee, Prabal Sen, Rajendra Singh Thakur, Zareen, Manmauji, Dev Sharma, Meghdoot.
Ajay Bannerjee make his debut appearance in this movie. Jalal Agha make a friendly appearance in this movie.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 10.02.1982.
This movie had six songs (as per HFGK Vol.VI-1981-1985) composed by Ravindra Jain. Ravindra Jain also wrote lyrics for all the six songs.
Kishore Kumar, Hemalata, Yesudas, Amit Kumar, Abhijeet and Rachna, gave their voices to the songs in this movie.
Today’s song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Hemlata separately. HFGK mentions this song as two different songs i.e. ‘Koi phool na mahke’ and ‘janmon ka hai pyaar hamaara…’, however from the video (partial) of this song mentioned under part-II the female version appears in continuation after the male version (which might be the second stanza of repeat of few lines of the male version of this song).
(Also, if we watch the video of male version only (Part-1) we can see the heroine appearing at the end of this song and may be the female version starts here?) …
Knowledgeable readers who have watched this movie can throw more light on the movie and its songs…
I have not watched this movie and had neither heard of this song till seven years back when I came across it during my daily song listening browsing session and had shared it then itself, however this remains to be posted and today we are introducing it with the movie ‘Bhaagya-1982’ also making its debut on the blog.
Let us now listen to this song …

Song-Koi phool na mahke koi panchhi na chahke (Bhaagya)(1982) Singer-Kishore Kumar/ Hemlata, Lyrics-Ravindra Jain, MD-Ravindra Jain
Lyrics

Kishore Kumar version
—————————–
Koi phool na mahke
Koi panchhi na chahke
Koi phool na mahke
Koi panchhi na chahke
Sooni hain saari bahaarein
Pyaasi nigaahen
Tujhko pukaaren
Aaja re
Koi phool na mahke
Koi panchhi na chahke
Nadiya ka sunsaan kinaara
Aur bhi gumsum ho gaya
Sukh dukh mein sang jaagnewaale
Kyun tu aise so gaya
o janmon ke meet bataa tu
Bin bole kahaan kho gaya
Teri yaad sataaye
Din raat rulaaye
Sooni hai saari bahaarein
Pyaasi nigaahen
Tujhko pukaare
Aaja re
Koi phool na mahke
Koi panchhi na chahke
Aankh se ojhal honewaale
Dhoondhhta hoon tujhe khwaab mein
Tu hai kahaan jis’se bhi poochha
Chup ho gaya jawaab mein
Thha main kabhi tere pyaar mein dooba aa
Ab dooba hoon sharaab mein
Yahi ek sahaara
Mere ghamon ka chaara
Sooni hai saari bahaarein
Pyaasi nigaahen
Tujhko pukaare
Aaja re
Koi phool na mahke
Koi panchhi na chahke
Koi phool na mahke
Koi panchhi na chahke

Hemlata version
———————————
O ho o o o
O ho o o o
O o o o o
O o o o o
Janmon ka hai pyaar hamaara
Janmon tak sang jaayega
Kasme waade itni jaldi
Kaise koi bisraayega
Tod ke har deewaar milenge
Dil ko dil jo bulaayega
Kahin door nahin hoon
Jahaan dhoondhhe wahin hoon
Tu mere dil mein rahega
Tujhse miloongi
Jab bhi kahega
Aa jaa re
Main hoon prem deewaani
Tere sapnon ki raani
Kal bhi tujhse door na thhi main
Aaj bhi tere paas hoon
Mit kar bhi jo mit nahin paaye
Main aisi ek aas hoon
Jitna udaas tu mere bina
Main tujh bin utni udaas hoon
Mujhe bhool na jaana
Sadaa pyaar nibhaana
Tu mere dil mein rahega
Tujh se miloongi
Jab bhi kahega
Aa jaa re
Main hoon prem deewaani
Tere sapnon ki raani
O o o o o
O ho o o o
O o o o o O
o o o o
O o o
O o o

#the Special Voices of the Decade (1971-1980) – 7 # Hemlata #
———————————————–———————————–——————
The movie ‘Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se’ was released in 1978 but I got to watch it much later, in the early eighties, and that too on Doordarshan when I had gone to Nagpur to my Uncle’s place.
Later on, I watched it when I had ‘colour TV’ at home.
I had never forgotten its title song sung by a ‘female singer’. That was despite the fact that kids of my age (around ten years old) normally did not give much thought to the singer while listening to songs.
When I think about it now, it was in 1976 that the song ‘sun ke teri pukaar’ from ‘Fakira-1976’ had caught my imagination, ( I have shared this in the blog earlier).
It is my guess that the aalaap of this voice in the song ‘kaun dishaa mein leke chalaa re batohiyaa’ must have left a magical effect on many music lovers, not all of them of an impressionable age unlike me. Another song from the same singer from another movie , namely ‘le to aaye hon hamen sapnon ke gaaon mein’ leaves the same effect on listeners. There are several other songs like this, some of them being:-
Tu jo mere sur mein sur milaa le , Suman samaan tum apna , Khushiyaan hi khushiyaan ho daaman mein jiske, Sona kare jhilmil jhilmil , Wafaa jo na ki to , Bachpan mohe picche bulaaye or duniya se door nayi ek duniya from the same movie…
And then the following songs from the movie ‘Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhe Se’;
ankhiyon ke jharokhon se or bade badaai na karen …
or this one from ‘Sunaynaa’
kaisi hoon main goongaa darpan kuchh bhi naa boley.
there are many, and many of them are still to come on this blog too.
And all of them had that special voice and they bring back many memories of that era of Hindi movies …
Also who can forget this duet song ‘teesta nadi si tu chanchalaa’ on TV in those years and yet again if we listen the beginning ‘alaap’ by the same female singer it is captivating…
This is voice of – Hemlata.
She was born on 16th August 1954.
Today on this blog we wish her a very happy birthday and a healthy and peaceful life ahead and today we celebrate this special voice under the series ‘special voices of the seventies.
There may not be many of her songs that she sung in those years of seventies or considering an extension up to 1983, the year when I completed my matriculation. But I have fond memories of many of her songs which, as I grow, I came to know are sung by her.
This is the first ‘female voice’, appearing in this series.
Hemlata Jaychand Bhatt or more popularly known to us as Hemlata was born on 16th August, 1954 in a Rajasthani Brahmin family who were settled in Kolkata (Calcutta then).
Her Father was a great classical vocalist and sole representative of the ‘Kirana Gharana’ (in India, after partition) and so music was already there in their family, and she was attracted towards film music from an early age.
However, daughters/girls in the family were not expected to become a singer and take on singing. And, so from the early childhood itself Hemlata’s struggle to become a Singer started having obstacles within family itself.
Her father, who was the only son among eight siblings, and coming from an orthodox Rajasthani Brahmin family where nobody was concerned with music had to struggle and he learn from Ustad Wahid Khan of Lahore – ‘Kirana Gharana’, and with his ‘dedication’ and ‘hard work’ he learned from him and dedicated his life to keep the legacy of the gharana.
But he was against the singing of Hemlata as it was against the traditions of the family.
Hemlata used to sing in School functions, ‘Durga Pooja’ festival – cultural programmes’, however this was without the knowledge of her father. Though her mother and guru bhai were supporting her singing looking into her passion for singing. So, Gopal Mullick, her guru bhai, motivated her to perform on stage.
It was when she was only seven-eight years old that she got an opportunity to sing on stage in public during the ‘Durga Pooja festival’ in Kolkata (program arranged in Ranjeet Stadium) where Gopal Mullick one of her father’s disciple was among the organising member of the programme. And the crowd that witnessed her first stage performance was a huge crowd because of big names like Hemant Kumar, Mohd Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, and Kishore Kumar were attending to perform in this programme.
Gopal Mullick had also specially invited Hemlata’s father Shri Jaychand Bhatt to attend this programme which little Hemlata was not aware of.
And this was not disclosed to her so that she didn’t fear and shiver on stage.
Her father was also not aware that his own daughter is going to perform on stage that day. He was told that one ‘child prodigy’ would be introduced on stage and he has to observe him/her.
As the three main singers performed and Lata Mangeshkar was to arrive late, Gopal Mullick had this opportunity to introduce little Hema on stage and as she sings her first song the response from the audience was so tremendous, they keep demanding ‘once more’ for this song.
The song was ‘jaago mohan pyaare’ from ‘Jaagte Raho’ and audience didn’t stop until she had already sung it four times and other twelve Bengali songs.
She was awarded a gold medal by Dr Bidhan Chandra Rai the then chief minister of Bengal for her performance that day.
However, her father was not in favour of her singing and instead he advised her that she should focus and complete her studies, then take on to help at home and get married as normally happens in our culture and tradition. Though he agreed for her to take training in classical singing from Gyan Prakash Ghosh a renowned name then in Calcutta and also allowed ‘riyaaz’ at home.
Around the same time, it so happened that the whole family had to visit to meet their relatives in Bombay (around 1966) for her brother’s ‘tablaa’ training and also to meet the relatives who were already staying there in Bombay. They meet Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Amir Khan and sister of her father Kamla Pandit.
During their visit to Bombay they meet Ustad Rais Khan, Ustad Allah Rakha where Hemlata was asked to sing few compositions.
Then she was taken to Aziz Nazaan and also a meeting with Naushad Saab was arranged where the great K. Asif was also present. This was all without her knowledge. She was asked to sing few compositions and all of them were so impressed that great Composer Naushad Saab straightway offer her a contract of five years, however during these five years she was supposed to get trained so that this time period would have given a better maturity in her age and in turn in voice also.
However, as the news of Naushad Saab’s offer to a ‘new upcoming singer’ spread, big music directors viz. Roshan, C. Ramchandra, Salil Chaudhary, Usha Khanna, Chitragupta, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Kalyanji-Anandji visited them in Bombay and demanding that Hemlata sang for them.
As told to RSTV by Hemlata ‘they were too small to say them ‘NO’…
Laxmikant of music duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal told her father that ‘now she is being offered her career on a platter’, after five years nobody knows how things would be in this ever-changing industry’’
Obviously, the contract of five years by Naushad Saab got nowhere.
She sang her first song for Usha Khanna in the movie ‘Roop Rupaiyya-1968’ (this song is yet to appear on the blog 🙂 ). (However, her first released song, also a Usha Khanna composition, from ‘Ek Phool Ek Bhool-1968’ was the first released song).
On the same day of the recording of her first song for a movie she recorded her second song- for none other than Kalyanji-Anandji for the movie ‘Vishwas-1969’ – ‘le chal le chal mere jeewan saathi’. Both songs she recorded on her first day were songs for the ‘heroine’ of the respective movies.
This was the ‘right’ beginning though for an upcoming new singer in those years when no one could have imagined that at such a younger age a singer will get an opportunity to sing in movies and that too when all the great names were already there ruling the field.
In the beginning of her career she used to get to sing for junior artists or few lines and though the very second song she sung was for lead artist/heroine of the movie i.e. Aparna Sen for ‘Vishwas-1969’ she had to wait till 1976 to shot to fame and the song was ‘Sun ke teri pukaar’ from ‘Fakira-1976’.
Before that her voice appears in the so many songs which she sang for child artists then;
‘dus paise mein Raam le lo’ (Ek Phool Ek Bhool-1968) (first song released)
‘chandaa ko dhoondhne sabhi tare nikal pade’ (Jeene Ki Raah-1969)
‘aisa banoonga actor main yaaron’ (Ghar Ghar Ki Kahaani-1970)
‘Fakira-1976’ was followed by ‘Chitchor-1976’ where the song with Yesudas ‘tu jo mere sur mein’ fetch her, her first ‘filmfare’ award for singing.
Thereafter she got to sing many songs and particularly for ‘Rajshri films’ and under music director Ravindra Jain.
Her association with Ravindra Jain has given Hindi Cinema some of the most beautiful compositions and unforgettable songs for people like me who grow in that ear of seventies.
Who can ever forget the title song from the movie ‘ankhiyon ke jharokhon se’, or the songs from ‘Nadiyaa Ke Paar-1982’, there are many such songs and the list will be much longer to present here.
Here I would also like to add her songs, from a lesser known movie ‘Jhoom Utthaa Aakash-1973’, which I got to listen during 2014-2015 and which I like very much. This movie had some nice songs which didn’t get attention may be because of the movie itself was an obscure movie.
Moreover there are many of her songs from lesser known movies (or which I have yet to listen) and need to bring here on the blog. (We are going to listen to one such lesser known number today).
Unfortunately for Hemlata or for us, as she kept getting offers for singing and she was continuing with them. Forces beyond her control were at work as well.Gradually she was getting side-lined and not getting much offers of singing… many bitter things were to happen in due course of time.
Hemlata left Bollywood in 1999 and settled in Mexico where she is running a ‘music academy’ for teaching music and singing. She has sung nearly five thousand songs in ‘forty’ languages around the world . This information that I came up wiuth while preparing this post left me ‘awe-struck’. She also keeps singing in Non-Film albums later and many accomplishments came to her later …
Today, as we wish her a very ‘happy birthday’ here on the blog. We thank her for the beautiful songs she has given to us and many memories associated with those melodies from the ‘decade of seventies – 1971 to 1980’
Here I will stop mentioning the lines of a song sung by her ‘tu is tarah se meri zindagi mein shaamil hai …’
***
For this post I am presenting a song from the 1979 movie ‘Zakhmon Ke Nishaan’. I came across this song more than two years ago when I was looking for a Ravindra Jain-Hemlata song.
I guess this movie ‘Zakhmon Ke Nishaan’ must be an ‘obscure movie’ of its time and it may have been flopped miserably. Neither the movie nor the video of its songs (except couple of songs and few video clips) are available on YT.
“Zakhmon Ke Nishaan-1979” was directed by Diljeet Bagge for ‘V. United, Bombay’. It was produced by M.T. Boxwala. M.K. Baria was his associate. It had Vinod Mehra, Tamanna, Vijay Arora, Ranjeet, Aruna Irani, Padma Khanna, Manmohan Krishna, Purnima, Dhumal, Rajendra Nath, Madan Joshi and Krishan Dhawan, supported by Makhan Singh, Jagdish Raj, Amrit Pal, Rana, Chandu, Pritam Beli, G.S. Assie, Narbadashankar, Dharam Veer Singh, Gopal Bhatnagar, Pratap Desai, Anand, Srivastava, Chowdhary, Aditya Sharma, Raj Anand, Ashok Nimbalkar, Master Dharmendra, Master Sanjay, Master Santosh, Master Jitoo.
Story and Screenplay of this movie was written by Shashi Bhushan, whereas the dialogues were written by Madan Joshi. Nand Kumar was the editor for this movie and Sunder Shetty was the associate editor.
This movie had six songs written by Ravindra Jain (four songs) and Hasrat Jaipuri (two songs). Music was composed by Ravindra Jain.
Asha Bhonsle, Manna Dey, Hemlata, Jaspal Singh, Dilraj Kaur, Suresh Wadkar and Chandrani Mukherjee had given their voices to the songs in this movie.
This movie was passed by censor board on 28.11.1979.
I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs …
The movie makes its debut on the blog today.
Let us now enjoy today’s song thanking Hemlata ji for the wonderful songs and the nostalgia forever …

The chronology of the posting of the songs makes for an interesting reading. After the start of this blog, I have been to five different places viz Jabalpur, Nagpur, Bilaspur, Izatnagar (Bareilly) and Gorakhpur, in that order. First two songs were covered during 2009 when I was in Jabalpur. The next two songs wwere covered in 2015. First of them was discussed when I was at Bilaspur. Next was discussed when I had gone to Izatnagar (Bareilly). The last three songs from the movie have been discussed while I am based at Gorakhpur. So my stay at Nagpur was the only period for the blog that did not see any song from the movie getting discussed.
I have fond memories of misusing my newfound freedom, using that to bunk college classes and watching movies. I watched this movie five times, that is how much I liked the movie. I was not alone. This movie had a longer run in Ranchi (where I was based those days ) than Sholay.
The heroine Rameshwari was the star attraction of the movie. nfortunately she could not capitalise on this dream beginning to her career and she fell by the wayside soon thereafter.
The music of the movie served as the Pied Piper that attracted me to the movie hall repeatedly.
As noted earlier, the movie had eight songs in it. All songs were nice to listen to. The songs that were discussed in the earlier days of the blog were the most popular songs from the movie.
Here is the eighth and final song from “Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaaye”(1977) to appear in the blog. The song is sung by Hemlata. Ravondra Jain is the lyricist as well as music director. Only the audio of the song seems to be available online. I had watched the movie and I recall this dukhiyaari song being lip synced by Rameshwari in the movie. So this song was very much there in the movie.
With this song, “Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaaye”(1977) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog. The movie thus gets YIPPEED in the blog.
Song-Shyama ho Shyama (Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaaye)(1977) Singer-Hemlata, Lyrics-Ravindra Jain, MD-Ravindra Jain
Lyrics
shyaama ho shyaama
raama ho raama
meri peer tose chhupi to nahin
chhupi to nahin shyaam
chhupi to nahin
meri peer tose chhupi to nahin ee
chhod ke tera dwaar kabhi main
kahin dukh rone gayi to nahin
shyaama ho shyaama
rama ho raama
meri peer tose chhupi to nahin
maine kab chaaha banoon mehlon ki raani
ban ke rahi re main to daras deewaani
maine kab chaaha banoon mehlon ki raani
ban ke rahi re main to daras deewaani
kisi sukh ki khaatir
o mere daata
koi hathh maine kari to nahin
kari to nahin re
hathh kari to nahin
meri peer tose chhupi to nahin ee
shyaama ho shyaama
raama ho raama
meri peer tose chhupi to nahin
maine to hamesha prabhu bas yahi maanga
ban ke rahoon main teri maala ka dhaaga
maine to hamesha prabhu bas yahi maanga
ban ke rahoon main teri maala ka dhaaga
dukh to yahi hai
toone bhi mujhse
kabhi ye na poochha
dukhi to nahin
dukhi to nahin
ari dukhi to nahin
meri peer tose chhupi to nahin een
shyaama ho shyaama
raama ho raama
meri peer tose
meri peer tose chhupi to nahin

The movie had ten songs in it. Six songs have been covered in the past.
I have fond memories of watching this movie by bunking my college classes. 🙂 Not once but five times. That is how much I liked this movie after I watched it the first time. 🙂
Rameshwari, debutant leading lady was the biggest reason for the successt of the movie. This remained her first and last hit as a leading lady. Today few moviegoers remember her but those days she was a big name and she took exception when she was mistaken for Rekha, who was a nobody in comparison. 🙂
Songs of “Dulhan wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaaye”(1977) played a big role in attracting moviegoers to the movie halls. All songs were nice to listen to.
Here is the seventh song from “Dulhan wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaaye”(1977) to appear in the blog. It is sung by Hemlata. Ravindra Jain is the lyricist and composer.
The song is picturised as a family get together song where Rameshwari, playing Kammo is asked to sing a song. Like an aadarsh Bhartiya naari that she portrays in the movie, she of course sings nice songs that never fails to wins over her audience. 🙂

The movie had eight songs in it. Five songs have been covered in the past.
I have written many things about this movie while discussing the previous songs. This was a movie whose name initially put me off. But when I found this movie going on and on and refusing to get replaces from the movie hall where it was being shown, then I decided to watch it. And I fel in love with this movie. So much so that I watched the movie again and again- for a total of five times.
Rameshwari the new find was the person behind the success of this movie. This movie no longer remained just a movie. Moviewatchers identified with Rameshwari and fell in love with her. That is the kind of magic her maiden appearance created at the box office.
It was the first time that I watched a Rajshree Productions movie. With my expectations raised sky high, I went to watch the next Rajshree Productions movie called “Paheli”(1977) and it turned out to be a big let down as far as I was concerned.
And when I watched the next Rameshwari movie, called “Iqraar” (1979), this movie as well as Rameshwari turned out to be huge disappointment.
Songs of “Dulhan wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaaye”(1977) were a big reason for the success of the movie. All songs were nice to listen to.
Here is the sixth song from “Dulhan wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaaye”(1977) to appear in the blog. It is sung by Hemlata whose voice sounded sweet, divine and inspired when singing uner the baton of Ravindra Jain. Ravindra Jain is the lyricist and composer.
THe movie does not seem to be available online. The song was picturised on Rameshwari.
Song-Jahaan prem ka paawan diyara jare (Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaaye)(1977) Singer-Hemlata, Lyrics-Ravindra Jain, MD-Ravindra Jain
Lyrics
hmm hmm hmm
ho o ho ho
ho o o o ho
jahaan prem ka paavan diyara jare
jahaan bolen bachan sab neeh bhare
usi angna mein
usi dvaare pe
beete hamra bhi jeevan raam kare
jahaan prem ka paavan diyara jare ae ae ho
kaun nadi ki ham hain lahar
kaho aake mila re kinaara
jog likhe bin sambhav naahin
aisa milan hamaara
in charnon se ab ghar na pare
jahaan prem ka paavan diyara jare ae ae ho
jis ka naahin apna koi
jo keh de use apna re
us ki karuna us ki daya ka
utre na karaj utaare
jiya chaahe wahin jiyen wahin pe maren
jahaan prem ka paavan diyara jare ae
jahaan bolen bachan sab neeh bhare
usi angna mein
usi dvaare pe
beete hamra bhi
jeevan raam kare
jahaan prem ka paavan diyara jare ae ae ho
Aaj tak jo kahaa tumne kahaa

Blog Day : | 3877 | Post No. : | 14900 |
I began “Blog Ten year challenge (2009-2019)” early this year. As many as ten songs are covered in this series so far. Three other regulars (viz M/s Avinash Scrapwala, Sadanand Kamath and Sudhir Ji) have also chipped in with their articles in this series. In this series, we cover a song from a movie whose song (some other song obviously) was covered in the blog ten years ago on the same day.
There were days when no movies were eligible for “Blog Ten year challenge (2009-2019)” because all the songs covered on that day ten years ago had been YIPPEED by now.
I also noticed that those days in 2009 saw as many as six or seven songs being covered daily. That is in such sharp contrast to the present scene in 2019 where we are barely averaging one song daily thus finally living up to the blog name of “song a day”. 🙂
It basically tells us that a lot of things change in ten years. I was ten years younger in 2009. The blog too was just a few months old and I had a kind of passion and motivation for the blog that I now find impossible to summon for myself.
In one’s younger days, one is not as much in control of one’s life (professional as well as personal) as one becomes later in life. With time, one rises up the ladder in profession life. Simultaneously, ones kids also grow up.
In short, one feels far less in control of one’s life in one’s younger days. Still, that is compensated by youthful energy, passion and motivation. With time, one gains control of one’s life but begins to lose on the gifts of youthful energy, passion and motivation. 🙂
Despite being less in control of my life, I still had time and energy for online activities (which was something new those days). After spending nearly four years in various cricket forums (2004-2008), I began to try my hand in blogging in 2008. This blog was my second blog. My first blog was also related to HFM and associated topics and the articles in that blog were quite exhaustive and time consuming to write. If that blog was like test match, then this song blog was like ODI. 🙂 Much easier and less time consuming. 🙂
Just like ODI is more popular than test cricket, the song blog became popular whereas the other original blog fell by the way side. I posted fifty articles in that blog and then totally stopped updating that. That blog is now lying neglected, with the last post appearing nearly ten years ago in august 2009.
I found posting in the song blog a breeze, that is why I was able to cover six to seven songs everyday in the blog.
That was then ! Today, ten years later, even posting one song a day seems like too much work. Curiously, I had far more workload on me in professional and personal fronts ten years ago. Today I am almost in full control on both fronts. Still my present blog post productivity has taken a major hit. 🙂
There are reasons for that, of course. One reason could be that I posted with an uncluttered mind, like how Sehwag used to bat with an uncluttered mind. In fact, I recall Raja commenting those days that the blog centuries were coming at Sehwag like rate (viz in 14 to 15 days). 🙂
Another cricket concept that we have in the blog is dot day, like how there are dot balls in cricket. The blog more or less lived upto its aim of posting songs everyday come rain or shine, festivals or holidays. But still there are unavaoidable circumstances due to which there have been no posts on certain days. We call those days as dot days for the blog.
When I look at the dot days in the blog, I find that the year 2008 (when this blog began), there were three dot days, viz. 22 sep, 23 sep and 25 september. 2009, the first full year for the blog had as many as 25 dot days. Year 2010 saw a whopping 61 dot days. Year 2011 had 36 dot days.
Situation “improved” in 2012 with only 5 dot days whereas 2013 saw 7 dot days.
Next three years were bad. 2014 had 27, 2015 had 22 and 2016 had 22 dot days.
Amazingly, 2017 was a year with ZERO dot days. So there was a post every day in the year 2017. What an achievement for the blog that year, though I was not aware of it till a few days back.
2018 saw 7 dot days.
So far every day of 2019 has seen at least one post in the blog.
So overall there have been 215 dot days out of 3877 days that the blog has been in existence.
I mentioned above that 2009 had 25 dot days. The first dot day of 2009 was this day ten years ago, viz 28 february 2009.
Now, I would not like today to be a day without posts as part of my ten year challenge. 🙂 It only means that today is a day when blog ten year challenge cannot take place. 🙂
Today 28 february 2019 is the last day of the month. It is the day of clearing hisaab, viz that of milkman etc. It is also the day when many people whose birthday falls in the month superannuate if it was their 60th birthday.
It is a good time for the blog to notch another century, viz century number 149, in other words song post number 14900. This century has taken a glacial 72 days to arrive. The century must have been slow , but looking at the bright side, there was no dot day during these 72 days. 🙂
The song that I have chosen for the occasion is from “Shyam Tere Kitne Naam”(1977). This movie was produced by Vinod Kumar and A Narang and directed by Shantilal Soni. The movie had Sachin, Sarika, Meena T, Manhar Desai, Bharat Bhooshan, Shyama, Jalal Agha, Sunder etc in it.
The movie had six songs in it. Two songs have been covered in the blog.
The song under discussion is sung by Hemlata. Anjaan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ravindra Jain.
The song is picturised on Sarika and Sachin, who were a hit jodi of low budget movies in 1970s (mostly produced by Rajshree Productions).
This song marks the birth anniversary of Ravindra Jain (28 february 1944-9 October 2015). This song also happens to be the 100th song of Ravindra Jain in the blog as a music director. So Ravindra Jain becomes the latest centurion in the blog. He is the 36th music director and the 87th artist overall to have one hundred (or above) of his songs showcased in the blog.
As always, I thank one and all for their continuous support and encouragement which keeps fuelling the blog which in turn continues to chug on and on relentlessly in its musical journey.
