Pancham’s Music – Eighties (1981-1990) – 8 (1988)
In today’s post we move on to Pancham’s music in 1988.
In the previous posts under this series we have already seen how the number of movies where music was composed by RD Burman was on a ‘reducing’ trend since 1986, as compared to the previous years from 1981 to 1985. Today I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Rama O Rama’. I was aware of the title song of this movie since long as this song was featured in one of the albums of songs sung by Amit Kumar. Also I did like this song very much.
‘Rama O Rama’ was directed by Mirza Brothers for Mirza Brothers Films Pvt Ltd’. It had Raj Babbar, Kimi Katkar, and debutant Aasif. The cast also included Pran, Raza Murad, Kiran Kumar, and Gulshan Grover. Supporting cast of this movie included Shammi, Shiva, Vishakha, Prabha Mathur, Shaila Khan, Murari Sharma, Rohit, Sridhar, Master Imran, Master Lovely, Baby Aisha, Master Javed, and others.
The story and screenplay of this movie was written by Mirza Brothers. And editing of this movie was done by Vijay Pande.
The film has 6 songs. Lyrics for the songs in this movie are written by Anand Bakshi and Usman Aarif. Music is composed by RD Burman. Asha Bhonsle, Amit Kumar, Mohd Aziz, Jayshree Shivram, Iqbal Siddiqui gave their voices to the songs in this movie.

Today’s song is sung by Amit Kumar and Jayshree Shivram. On screen the male version is lip-synced by debutant Aasif. I am unable to identify the actress lip-syncing the female version on screen.
This was Amit Kumar’s first recording after the death of Kishore Kumar (he has mentioned about this in an interview). We can see the difference in his voice in singing of this song. He does sound like Pancham Da in the alaap “Raama O Raama”. This is a poignant song we can see how he has poured his heart in this song.
I have not watched this movie. But as mentioned above I only remember the today’s song from this movie since long or since 1988/89 I think. Yesterday was the eighty-third birth anniversary of musical genius RD Burman. Let us listen to his this poignant composition. I am sure you will like this composition very much.
