Blog 10-Year Challenge (2013-2023) – Song No.100
————————————————————————————–
On this date ten years ago (29 April 2013), six songs from six different movies were covered in the blog. Here are the details:-
Post No | Song Title | Name of the movie | Remarks |
---|---|---|---|
8001 | Mera husn lootne aayaa | Chandralekha (1948) | 8 songs covered out of 11 by now |
8002 | Chanda ki chaandni na suhaaye to kya karen | Duniya Ek Saraai (1947) | 5 songs out of 9 by now |
8003 | Tere saath chal rahe hain ye zameen ye chaand taare | Angaarey(1954) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
8004 | Itni si baat ka fasaana na banaao | Ek Ladki Saat Ladke(1961) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
8005 | Ham pe daya rakhna | Aas (1953) | Movie YIPPEED in the blog with this song |
8006 | Jaa jaa jaa jaa tujhe ham jaan gaye | Sehraa (1963) | Movie YIPPEED by now |
We observe that four movies (out of six) whose songs were covered in the blog on this date ten years ago (on 29 April 2013) have since been YIPPEED in the blog. That leaves us with two unYIPPEED movies that are eligible for Blog Ten Year Challenge today (29 April 2023).
“Chandralekha”(1948) is one BTYC eligible movie today.
“Chandralekha”(1948) was produced and directed by S S Vasan for Gemini Chitra, Madras. This blockbuster big budget movie had T.R.Rajkumari, M.K.Radha, Ranjan, Sundri Bai, Yashodra Katju, L.Narayan Rao, Subbayya Pillai, V.H.Janaki, H.Krishnamurthy, B.S.Kalla, A.K.Chopra, Sundar Rao, Varalakshmi etc in it.
“Chandralekha”(1948) had 11 songs in it. Eight songs have been covered in the blog by now.
Here is the ninth song from the movie to appear in the blog. The song is sung by chorus. Pt Indra Chandra is the lyricist. Music is composed by R Vaidhyanathan.
The song is played in the background as horse riding warriors are seen racing away towards somewhere (battlefield) in perfect formation, one after the other.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.
This song is the 100th song in this year under the Blog Ten Year Challenge (2013-2023). We are still in on 29 April 2023. More than eight months are still left. Lots and lots of songs (1200 to be exact) were covered in the blog in 2013 between 30 April 2013 to 31 december 2013. Many of the movies of these songs are still unYIPPEED so we can hopefully have record number of songs under BTYC in this year, breaking previous year’s record of 140 songs set in BTYC (2012-2022).
This also happens to be the 100th post in the current month of April 2023. So we continue to live up to our new year resolution of posting 100 or more songs in each month in this year. Hopefully we will continue to stick to this resolution throughout the year and even beyond.

Today 4th August 2022 is the ninety-third birth anniversary (4 August 1929 – 13 October 1987) of Kishore Kumar.
For the music lovers and readers associated with this blog today is another great day and we remember Kishore Da today and pay our tributes to him today here on the blog.
Today I have been late in sending this post to our editors and I sincerely hope that they will get time to consider and post this one. For more than a month now there is a ‘special project’ going at my workplace and because of this I am getting very less time to participate in blog activities. Though I wish to write and send many posts and many songs keep going through my mind on daily basis, but I am unable to concentrate and put in my energy on writing. I hope things to get back to normal after this ‘two months’ project gets over.
Today’s post got delayed because I was unable to make my mind up while making the selection. There are so many Kishore Kumar songs yet to be posted on the blog.
Since today is his birth anniversary I first looked for a happy song, then a fun song, then a romantic song, only a solo song, inspirational song, motivational song etc etc.
There was one song lying since years and pending to be posted, but it was a duet song and I did not wish to post a duet on this occasion today. I even noted two other songs, but then decided to send other.
Finally, I selected a Pancham composition which is in a sombre mood. Nevertheless listening to Kishore Kumar’s voice in this soulful song will bring back many memories for the readers. Poetry in the song by Majrooh Saab is also very nice and philosophical. The music prelude, the guitar and the mouth organ in between used in this composition is also very nice to listen to.
The movie and its songs were not much popular during its time. Nevertheless the overall musical score for this movie by Pancham Da is very very nice.
So here I am presenting a song from the ‘1985’ movie ‘Sitamgar’.
‘Sitamgar-1985’ was directed by Raj N Sippy for Bikramjeet Films International, Bombay and produced by Bikram Singh Dehal.
It had Dharmendra, Parveen Babi, Rishi Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon, Dr. Shreeram Lagoo, Prem Chopra, Jagdish Raj Gurbachan, Ranvir Raj, Azad, Tilak Mehta, Raj Kaul, Shamsuddin, Nath Kamle, Ved Akash, Ashok Gaekwad, Master Alankar, and Baby Geeta. Narendra Nath, Sonia Shania, and Sudhir make special appearance in this movie.
Ved Aakash and Pankaj Kharbanda were the Chief Assistant Directors of this movie. Ashok Gaekwad was the Associate Director for this movie.
V.N. Mayekar was the editor while Sakharam Borse assisted him in editing. Story and Screenplay of this movie was written by Mirza Brothers and dialogues were written by Dr. Rahi Masoom Raza.
This movie had six songs written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and composed by R.D. Burman (Manohari, Babloo and Martin were assistants). Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar gave their voices to the songs in this movie.
Today’s song is picturised on Dharmendra who is riding on a horse. It reminds us of many songs with similar picturisation.
Lyrics are by Majrooh Sultanpuri, and music is composed by R.D. Burman.
The audio version is having three stanzas while the video of this song is of only two stanzas.
Let us now listen to the great voice Kishore Kumar and take a journey down memory lane …

#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
———————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 153 # Rafi Saab’s ninety-seventh birth anniversary#
———————————————
Today 24th December’2021 is the ninety-seventh birth anniversary of legendary singer Mohd Rafi (24.12.1924-31.07.1980).
Much has already been said and written about Rafi Saab on this blog and elsewhere. What I will say will be nothing new, so I will not go into his biography and other details.
For me he will always be ‘a divine messenger of humanity and a divine voice’.
Today on his birth anniversary we remember him and pay our tributes. On this occasion I am presenting a song from ‘1972’ movie ‘Kaun Sachchaa Kaun Jhoothha’.
‘Kaun Sachchaa Kaun Jhoothha-1972’ was directed by Jankiram for P.S.R. Pictures, Madras. Jankiram had also done the photography of this movie.
This movie was produced by P. Subbarao. It had Vijaylalita, Jyotilakshami, Krishna, Prabhakar Reddy, Tyagraju, Ramdas, Padmashri V. Nagiyah, Lakshamichhaya, Junior Kanchana, Helen, and others.
Story and screenplay of this movie was written by A.M. Samiyulla. Dialogues were written by Raj Joshi. Editing of this film was done by Kandaswamy.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 26.08.1972. That means this movie will be completing its fifty years in August’2022.
This movie had six songs written by Kewal and composed by Satyam. Mohd Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Preeti, L.R. Eswari and Madhukar had given their voices to the songs in this movie.
One song from this movie have been posted on the blog. This post was presented by Sudhir ji, and it can be read in detail here. This movie ‘Kaun Sachcha Kaun Jhoothha’ was a dubbed movie. The original movie was in Telugu language.
The list of the songs the Hindi version has is as given below.
SNo | Title of the song | Singer/s | Posted On |
---|---|---|---|
01 | Chalna zindagaani, duniya behta paani | Mohd Rafi | 07.03.2016 |
02 | Dekho jawaani chham chham naache re | Asha Bhonsle | – |
03 | Meri raani mat jaa, pyaar tujhe kar loon | Mohd Rafi, Preeti | – |
04 | Sawaal hai kaisa mera | Asha Bhonsle | – |
05 | Haay, haay, haay, haay, sun jaa | Madhukar, L.R. Eswari | – |
06 | Karam nahin mit’ta, dharam nahin bikta | Mohd Rafi | Being discussed today |
We can see from the above table that one song of this movie ‘Kaun Sachchaa Kaun Jhoothha’ has been posted on the blog on 07.03.2016. Today we are going to listen to the second song of this movie which again is a solo song sung by Rafi Saab. I had come across this song during my daily browsing of the song long back. However, this song is yet to be posted and today we are going to have it on this blog.
Let us listen to this song and remember the divine voice – Rafi Saab!
(PS: I was about to finish this article and had written these lines – ‘I wonder if the Hindi (dubbed) version of this movie is available online or elsewhere’. But when I checked online this movie is already available online. And one can watch it there.
I have only now watched the picturization of today’s song which shows the hero as a ‘robin hood type’ character and he is riding on the horse. That may remind many of the famous Hindi movie ‘robin hood characters’ riding on the horse and singing or a song playing in the background. But this song though nice, fails to create the impact like ‘jeewan mein tu darna nahin’. 😊 )

duniya ki kitaabon se ik din
mushkil ka naam mit jaayega
hum apni lagan ke deewaane
toofaan se bhi takra jaayenge
ab jhuk na sakenge ae duniya
hum toot bhale hi jaayenge

naaz kisi kisi ki yaad bhi hai
ik sapnon ka sansar bhi hai
aa ha ha ha
aa aa aa aa
jo kuchh bhi haseen hai is jag mein
kuchh aur haseen kahlayega
duniya ki kitaabon se ik din
mushkil ka naam mit jaayega
har har bandhan ko tod ke jab
ik jashn manaayegi duniya
taaron ke singhaashan par jis din
insaan ko dikhaayegi duniya
ho ho ho
o o o o o
us din sabko rah rah ke mera
ye geet bahut yaad aayega
insaan ke iraadon ke aage
ambar bhi sar ko jhukaayega
ambar bhi sar ko jhukaayega
duniya ki kitaabon se ik din
mushkil ka naam mit jaayega

Hullo Atuldom
“Azaad” (1978) made its debut on the blog in 2014 with this song. The post contains details of the movie and its synopsis.
After four years, on the occasion of Dharam Paaji’s birthday I had sent this song on the blog. Therein I have stated how I came to appreciate Dharmendra the actor, the songs of his which I love etc.
I was looking for possible songs to post for Dharam Paaji’s 86th birthday. I went through all the Dharmendra movies that are on the blog; movies with one or two songs left to attain YYIIPPEEEEhood. Then I looked for popular movies of the ’80s, ’90s and later which featured our favourite actor/ star. I found numerous possible songs but decided to go back to “Azaad”. That is story of how this song find a place on the blog today.
The song is sung by Kishore Kumar, written by Anand Bakshi and tuned by RDB. We see our Dharam Paaji on a journey on Horseback in search of greener pastures, away from his hometown after he promises his bhabhi that he will mend his ways and not get into unnecessary squabbles.
Wishing a very Happy Birthday to our dearest Veeru a.k.a Dharam Paaji. May he be healthy witty and happy with all his family and close people.

#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 92 # R.D. Burman – Year 1977
———————————————–———————————————
It is another important day today for all of us today (27 june 2020). Remembering the ‘genius’ Music Director Rahul Dev Burman – ‘Pancham’ on his eighty-first birth anniversary today.
As a tribute to him I am presenting a song composed by him from the movie ‘Jeewan Mukt-1977’.
I do not know how many of our readers are aware of this movie and its’ songs. There may be many, and surely most Pancham fans are aware of the movie and its songs.
However, I became aware of this movie only six years ago when I got my copy of HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980). Since then, I was longing to share the songs from this movie. But somehow it didn’t work out, mainly because I was unable to locate the songs of this movie.
I had never listened to the songs of this movie earlier. For that matter I had never even heard the name of this movie. This movie must have sunk badly at the box office and as a result it must have ended up becoming an obscure movie of its time.
The movie had some beautiful songs in it that were created by none other than the genius music director Rahul Dev Burman.
When I listened to the songs of this movie during the preparation of this post, I liked them very much. And I hope that our readers too will find the song enjoyable.
This is a movie of 1977. 1977 is also an important year in the history of India (socio-politically). However here on the blog we will only discuss the movies and music (of Pancham) of that year.
Some of us will readily recall the blockbuster musical hit of that year i.e. ‘Ham Kisise Kam Nahin’, which also had music by R D Burman.
Then there were other movies like ‘Kinaara’, ‘Mukti’, ‘Kitaab’, ‘Karm’ etc where the music was composed by R.D. Burman.
Then there were movies like ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Dharam Veer’, ‘Aap Ki Khaatir’, ‘Yehi Hai Zindagi’, ‘Doosra Aadmi’, ‘Apnaapan’, ‘Dulhan Wahi Jo Piyaa Man Bhaaye’, ‘Khoon Pasinaa’, ‘Swami’, ‘Anurodh’, etc etc… where the other music directors composed the music and the music of these movies too were very popular.
The song that ranked at number one of that year’s annual ‘Binaca Geetmala’ list was from the previous years’ ‘Laila Majnu’, and in 1978 it was from ‘Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se’. The song ‘Kyaa huaa tera waadaa’ from ‘Ham Kisise Kam Nahin’ ranked at number three in the annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala’ of 1978.
None of the songs from today’s movie ‘Jeewan Mukt’ featured in the annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala-1977’. (or 1978).
In 1977 there were as many as ten movies where R D Burman sas the music director. Details of the representation of these movies in the blog is show here :-
Sno. | Title | Year | Passed by Censor Board | Lyricist | Represented on the Blog |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Chaandi Sonaa | 1977 | 25.03.1977 | Majrooh Sultanpuri | Yes |
2 | Chalaa Muraari Hero Banane | 1977 | 08.11.1977 | Yogesh | Yes |
3 | Chaltaa Purzaa | 1977 | 16.06.1977 | Anand Bakshi | Yes |
4 | Darling Darling | 1977 | 11.05.1977 | Anand Bakshi | Yes |
5 | Ham Kisise Kam Nahin | 1977 | 19.08.1977 | Majrooh Sultanpuri | Yes |
6 | Jeewan Mukt | 1977 | 08.08.1977 | Yogesh | NO |
7 | Karm | 1977 | 27.04.1977 | Bharat Vyas, Rajkavi Tulsi | Yes/Yippeeee’ed |
8 | Kinaaraa | 1977 | 21.03.1977 | Gulzar | Yes/Yippeeee’ed |
9 | Kitaab | 1977 | 31.12.1977 | Gulzar | Yes/Yippeeee’ed |
10 | Mukti | 1977 | 14.02.1977 | Anand Bakshi | Yes/Yippeeee’ed |
‘Jeewan Mukt-1977’ was directed by Sudhendu Roy for S.R. Productions, Bombay. It had Lakshmi, Parikshit Sahni, Girish Karnad, Mala Jaggi, Sudha Shivpuri, Pawan Dutt, Meena Rai, Master Gautam, Ashok Razdan, Dhanna, Asha Lata, Suresh Oberoi, Dinshaw Dazi, Shrimati Mistri and others.
As per HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980) this movie had total four songs, all were solo songs sung by Asha Bhonsle. (however, on internet I came across a song sung by Kishore Kumar and it is uploaded as an ‘unreleased song from this movie- ‘Jeewan Mukt’, which needs to be checked and confirmed. HFGK doesn’t mention this song).
Lyricist Yogesh wrote the songs for this movie and music was composed by R.D. Burman.
This movie was passed by Censor Board on 08.08.1977.
Today’s song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is lip synced on screen by Lakshmi. Master Gautam (I guess) is the kid seen with her. Some other artists including two playing a village cuple are also seen in the picturisation.
Let us enjoy today’s song which is said to be inspired from a ‘western song’ (guesses?).
The book ‘R.D. Burman- The Man, The Music’ also mentions one other song from this movie ‘Jeewan Mukt’ where Pancham Da had taken inspiration from the music composed by a famous ‘western group’, but then that is the ‘inspiration’ for another post. Till then let us all enjoy this song and pay our tributes to our beloved Pancham Da.
With this song ‘Jeewan Mukt-1977’ makes its debut on the blog. With this song, all released movies of 1977 that had music by R D Burman find representation on the blog. 🙂

lehraa ke dagar
chali jaati hai kidhar
kuchh tumko pataa hai
kuchh tumhen hai khabar
lehraa ke dagar
chali jaati hai kidhar
kuchh tumko pataa hai
kuchh tumhen hai khabar
door kahin pe
sone ki zameen pe
pyaara pyaara hai
bahaaron ka nagar
lehraa ke dagar chali jaati hai kidhar
kuchh tumko pataa hai
kuchh tumhen hai khabar
aa aa aa aa aa
ye khiley khiley
manchale saje
mausam ki qasam
rukte nahin kahin mere qadam
ye khiley khiley
manchale saje
mausam ki qasam
rukte nahin kahin mere qadam
lagtaa hai man ko
jaise gagan ko
pankh binaa main
chhoo rahin hoon ud kar
lehraa ke dagar
chali jaati hai kidhar
kuchh tumko pataa hai
kuchh tumhen hai khabar
lehraa ke dagar
chali jaati hai kidhar
kuchh tumko pataa hai
kuchh tumhen hai khabar
aa aa aa aa
yahaan kiran kiran
jab chaman chaman ko chhoo le ae
dil mera sab kuchh bhoole ae
yahaan kiran kiran
jab chaman chaman ko chhoo le ae
dil mera sab kuchh bhoole ae
lachke jo daali koi phoolonwaali
ho jaaye mujh par jaadu ka asar
lehraa ke dagar
chali jaati hai kidhar
kuchh tumko pataa hai
kuchh tumhen hai khabar
lehraa ke dagar
chali jaati hai kidhar
kuchh tumko pataa hai
kuchh tumhe hai khabar
jab dheere dheere nadiyaa ke teere ae
din jo dhale ae
mehendi rachaa kar shaam chale ae
jab dheere dheere nadiyaa ke teere ae
din jo dhale ae
mehendi rachaa kar shaam chale ae
dhake dabe paaon se
rangon bhare gaaon se
aayi ho rangeeli koyi gori saj kar
lehraa ke dagar
chali jaati hai kidhar
kuchh tumko pataa hai
kuchh tumhen hai khabar
door kahin pe
sone ki zameen pe
pyaara pyaara hai
bahaaron ka nagar
lehraa ke dagar
chali jaati hai kidhar
kuchh tumko pataa hai
kuchh tumhen hai khabar

“Jaggu”(1975) was directed by Sameer Ganguly for R M Art Prouctions, Bombay. This “social” movie had Shatrughan Sinha, Leena Chandawarkar, Imtiaz, Jagdeep, Jyoti, Purnima, Shetty, Hercules, Aazaad, Daljeet, Nawaab, Prakash Mishra, Indira Bansal, Moolchand, Viju Khote, Bholanath, Anwar Hussain etc in it. In addition, there were special appearances by Bindu, aruna Irani, Bhagwan Dada, Kamal, Master Cheeku, Paintal, Mohan Choti, Keshav Rana etc.
The movie had six songs in it. I do not seem to have heard any of these songs during its time. It basically means that the movie had flopped at the box office and the songs failed to become popular.
Here is the first song from “Jaggu”(1975) to appear in the blog. This song was sung by Lata. S H Bihari is the lyricist. Music is composed by Sonik Omi.
The song is lip synced by Leena Chandawarkar who is seeding riing a horse supported by Shatrughan Sinha. Now, singing a song while riding a horse is as herculean a task as singing a song while playing a grand piano, but our lead actors are shown pulling off this superhuman feat with ease in movies after movies. 🙂
The music sounds in parts like Laxmikant Pyarelal, while at other places it sounds like R D Burman. That was normal practice with most small time music directors of those days.
With this song, “Jaggu”(1975) makes its debut in the blog.

The song is picturised on Rishi Kapoor and Mausami Chatterji as a horse riding song on snow.
The lyrics of this song were sent to me by nahm as far back as in 2011 and I had planned to cover this song at that time only. I do not know how this song managed to remain unposted all these years. It was lying in the drafts folder of the blog for all these days.
Better late than never. With this song, “Do Premi”(1980) makes its debut in the blog.

This song is another bright memory from the radio listening days. I had heard it only on the radio, and then it faded and remained elusive for many years. As I was preparing the list of songs for this series, I remembered this song, and then searched for it online.
